The Outriders Rankings
Home Pack Ranks
The following ranks apply for all wolves that are under direct control of Phib.
Leadership:
King- The traditional calling of the male alpha in the far North. It was originally brought to the North by egotistical Hrothmund who did view himself as a true King, but it originated somewhere far South. Alpha and King are interchangeable in the pack, and other alphas are often referred to as Kings as well.
Queen- The traditional calling of the female alpha in the far north. Like the king term, it was originally brought to the North by Hrothmund, who called himself King. Since there was never an alpha female, the title did not become instated until his daughter, Azalea, adapted it for herself based on it's more Southern usage. A queen's power mirrors that of the King's.
Offensive:
General (Male)- The male half of the beta chain is responsible for all males under his power, which are typically members of the guard and hunting parties. Generals respond only to the alpha pair, and may on occasion be mated- but this is not required in any circumstance. The male general typically is the stronger of the pair and commands, while the female half plans and executes.
General (Female)- The female half of the beta chain, and is responsible for all non-pregnant females under her power, which are typically members of the guard or hunting parties. Generals respond only to the alpha pair, and may on occasion be mated- but this is not required in any circumstance. The female general typically makes the plans, and gives orders to the male to pull them into fruition- but this is not always the case either.
Head Guard- There is one for each gender. The male guards may be other beta-personality types, but for some reason or another do not have what it takes to be a full beta. Wolves under this ranking respond directly to the generals. They often lead hunts, or play crucial rolls in them. They also do any work that the generals are currently to busy to accomplish.
Guards- Gammas whom feel protection is their greatest function. Although they function as subordinates in hunts, they also travel with the head guards to investigate findings, and help protect the borders. They typically work in groups, and among the groups there are High Guards, Beta Guards, and Lower Guards.
Defensive:
Spy- A spy responds either directly to the alpha pair, or to the generals, but otherwise is a mystery to the rest of the pack. They come and go as often as their missions let them, and sometimes can't stop wandering even when they do. At times they may be miles away from the pack lands, but unlike the other wanderers, they still consider themselves under the direct influence of the pack.
Scout- A bit different from the lower class agent, the scout does his or her work directly for the pack, but wanders about as frequently as the spy. Their work does not deal with espionage so much that it deals with gathering information. Generally they are more pleasent, talkative people, who are the lighter half of the spy divison.
Sentry- The sentry works beneath the head guard and the generals, but does not work directly with them. They frequent the free lands, and look out for any trouble on their own. They are normally ex-lones, who have no problems with working on their own. Another job they fulfill is keeping tabs on herd movements, and they are often the one to call time for a hunt.
Lower Sentry- These sentries function beneath the full sentries, but remain always within the pack. They typically round up wolves for meetings, and keep tabs on local food supplies and game.
Paranormals
Channeler- Any shaman which directly identifies itself with an element or spirit. Also by default a member of the high council. The Channeler functions as a gateway into understanding the elements, and uses their healing abilities for support.
Prophet- A wolf of seer ranking, who's abilities consist of those of the mind. They make accurate predictions of the future, and are quite often readers. They are by default members of the high council.
Advisors:
Head Council- Wolves that would be betas, but care not for fighting or making plans. These wolves share direct contact with the alpha pair, and advise them in all of their doings. They rank very closely with the generals, although they have little contact as far as jobs go.
High Council- Open only to shamans and seers. Wolves of this ranking advise the alpha pair on things unseen to their eyes, of magic, and the world. Held in high regard, they are often mysterious, and go on their own private quests whenever they so choose.
Tactics- A political advisor who works only to advise the advisors on the current state of the pack's safety. They work out plans, and they make them easier for other wolves to respond. They are incredibly important, as they bridge the link between normal command, and sub command.
Common (Non-Political):
Baron- The lead gamma male, normally the most dominant of the Lord class. He speaks on their behalf in all matters. He represents the interests of the non-political side of the pack. He is usually a good friend of the alphas.
Baroness- The lead gamma female, normally the most dominant of the Lady class. She speaks on their behalf, and that of their children, in all matters. She represents the non-political side of the pack. She is usually a good friend of the alphas.
Lord- A gamma male, with no or little aspiration to rise in the ranks. Their personalities shift from wolf to wolf, although they usually answer directly to the King or to the Baron.
Lady- A gamma female, with no or little aspiration to rise in the ranks. Their personalities shift from wolf to wolf, although they usually answer directly to the Queen or to the Baroness.
Ranger- The wolves who function with the hunt. Although all wolves participate, these wolves know hunting like the back of their hand. They also bring food to those who cannot hunt, for whatever reason. Among their ranks there is the herder, who herds the game, the thrusher, who scares the game, and the stalker, who typically kills the game. Multiple hunting parties will call for multiple rolls.
Matron- A gamma female that is in charge of watching the children. She may or may not be a mother herself, but typically takes care of all those under her charge, and advises the children. She normally does not go on hunts, but will always be well fed.
Guardian- A gamma male that is in charge of watching the children. He may or may not be a father himself, but typically takes care of all those under his charge, and advises the children. He normally does not go on hunts, but will always be well fed.
Consort- A member of the pack, for one reason or another, mated to a member of higher rank then themselves. Consorts may be mates for life, or simply a relationship of lust. They may carry another rank other then being consorts.
Genteel- The lowest members of the pack. They are often the scapegoats of problems, but are generally well loved. These are almost always omegas, but some omegas may still hold a lord/lady role.
Squire- An adolescent or young (virginal) adult male, who may have aspirations to rise in the ranks, but is too young to do so. They may train with other members of the pack to rise in ranks.
Maiden- An adolescent or young (virginal) adult female who may have aspirations to rise in the ranks, but is too young to do so. They may train with other members of the pack to rise in ranks.
Child (Pup)- An unranked pup. There may be ranks among the children, but they change flippantly so it's hard to ever be sure. These are the treasures of the pack.

Correspondent Rankings
Correspondents are members or allies that do not function directly with the pack, but work as either stand alone or affiliate members.
--------------------
King: Male leader of another pack. Typically a visiting alpha, or one met in freelands.
Queen: Female leader of another pack. Typically a visiting alpha, or one met in freelands.
Duke: Beta male of another pack. May also apply to lone correspondents who are of the intellect or determination of a beta.
Duchess: Beta female of another pack. May also apply to lone correspondents who are of the intellect or determination of a beta.
Channeler: A seer, or shaman allied with the pack, whom may or may not answer to another alpha. They are typically let to their own doings, but a confirmed seer/shaman's information is almost always trusted- as long as it can be deciphered!
Agent: A gamma of another pack working on occasion for the pack. These wolves are usually spies for other packs, who occasionally join forces with the outriders.
Scout: An adolescent or omega agent. Their information can't always be trusted because of their inexperience.
Consort: A mate located in another pack. May or may not share the same rank as the home-packed wolf.
Bard: A totally random, wandering wolf. Whether or not they are in a pack is not usually known, and their meetings are often brief. Whatever stories can be got off of them, usually are.
Vagabond: The lowest member of correspondent ranks. These wolves are lone wolves. They answer to no one, and their information is only sporadically trusted.
