God Modding
This is probably one of the most annoying and complicated things you will ever come across in RPing. A few examples are listed below to help provide you with an accurate depiction of it.
This is an improper way to fight...
Quote:
Velocity rushed forward with his blade in hand, vengeance in his eyes as he stabbed his sword into the heart of his opponent.
This is very clearly god modding. You cannot control another person's character. Killing off NPCs (Non-playable characters) is completely fine. The butlers and maids in the Vampire Lair are considered NPCs and can be killed whenever someone feels like it.
A proper example of RP fighting without god modding would be something like this...
Quote:
Velocity rushed forward with his blade in hand, vengeance in his eyes as he aimed his sword at the heart of his opponent. He was quick and skilled, making it difficult for his enemy to dodge his attack.
This adds more detail to the fight and forces the person you are RPing against to think outside the box and come up with a dodge or counter attack. You are also not controlling the other persons character in this situation.
Other examples of God Modding would be:
Quote:
Velocity jumped into the air, aiming his hand at the village below him. He gathered his energy and shot an orb of power upon the innocent citizens. A bright flash of light followed the impact, rubble and debris were thrown into the sky. Bodies of the fallen were strewn across the surrounding area. The entire community had been destroyed in a matter of seconds.
It is considered god modding to destroy any large portion of land with active guild members without proper consent from the Vice Captains or me. If the land is filled with NPC's and is not a major area for RPing, such as a thread then it is alright to destroy it. One could be destroying it to get the attention of the current leader of a race; this is for war purposes of course. (Hope I explained that properly, this might be edited in the future)
Information
Another complexed and aggravating subject. (Hoping I can explain this right.) This could also be considered god modding by certain standards.
Information that you are aware of but your character isn't cannot be used in an RP. Your character must become aware of this information either by being told by another guild member's character or by seeing/hearing it themselves.
If you're browsing through the threads and discover a race is about to wage war on another race your character cannot just randomly warn people of the threat. Your character would not be aware of this information because he/she was not present whenever the information was given in the RP.
In order to be aware of this information you could do something like the following...
Quote:
Velocity sat in the shadows, he would be almost impossible to detect. His scent, heat, and energy had been concealed. The only possible way for someone to discover him would be his aura and this gifted ability of sight was rare. He heard the vampires discussing war plans. Arrea just revealed to her general that she planned to invade the lycan territory and wage war. Velocity shocked by this information darted off to find the lycan alpha to tell her of the disturbing news.
Your character has been made aware of the information because HE heard it in the RP.
Quote:
Velocity sat in the tavern, enjoying his cup of tea. Everything seemed fine and dandy as he enjoyed the serenity of the peace enveloping the land. One of his friends suddenly burst through the doors, obviously in a panic. Sweat beaded his brow and he was panting, about to collapse from exhaustion. Velocity rushed to his aid, proving him an arm for support. "What's wrong, you look like hell?"
His friend grasped the material of Velocity's shirt. "I bring disturbing news. I was in the Vampire Lair, scouting for information whenever I heard Arrea speaking of war against the lycan clans."
Velocity was speechless and almost dropped his friend from the weight of he news. He had no idea what to do but he decided he must warn the lycan alpha.

Your RP character has been made aware of the situation by another RP character that had been in the Vampire Lair to hear the news. It doesn't have to be this way, it can be more creative if you wish. If your character is gathering information is must be posted in the RP so other guild members can react if they need to.
Adding Details
I know sometimes it is difficult to make your posts detail but with a few tricks you can add flare and more character depth to them. I don't think I need to mention that one liners are completely unacceptable and I will warn you if I see it. I hate one liners because it is difficult to respond to them and almost requires no effort on your part. Did I mention I hate one liners? Do not do this. I would like a minimum of three to four sentences which is very lenient.
This is a pathetic post with little detail.
Quote:
Velocity walked through the door.
This is horrible and I will warn you for this. You are only allowed three warnings before a permanent ban.
To spice things up a little bit describe the character's thoughts, the weather outside, the detail of his attire, or what he sees in the surrounding environment. These are only a few examples but will ensure you do not write a one liner.
Here is a better example...
Quote:
Velocity entered the bar, he was weary almost to the point of exhaustion. He had traveled nonstop for days, trying to out run the visions of his past. The images still haunted him, even in his sleep...he simply couldn't get them out of his mind. He stepped through the smoky air, it smelled of cigar and cigarettes...a faint aroma of alcohol mixed with it to provide a rather putrid smell. Some people may enjoy the environment he was in but he most certainly did not and wouldn't be staying here if he had a choice at all in the matter.
The weather outside had been terrible, rain had fell across the lands it was if god was mocking him, trying to make his escape more difficult. His dark trench coat was soaked, adding more weight to his muscular frame. It didn't help that he liked his clothes loose, it was several sizes too large, just making it worse on him. Everything seemed to be against him tonight. He found a coat rack and quickly removed his jacket, placing it on the hook. He felt much better having fresh air against his sticky flesh, even if it did smell disgusting.
Velocity's boots left a residue of red mud at his made his way to the stool at the bar. He ran his fingers across the smooth granite, admiring the detail of the stone. It was cool to the touch and made him feel dirty. The bartender approached him, he was running a rag against a large mug...probably out of boredom. "What can I getcha son," his accent was foreign to him and he wasn't sure of his origin.
Velocity peered up at the man, searching his eyes as if he needed to desperately find something within them. "I'd like vodka, on the rocks. I don't care about how polished the glass is. I just need some alcohol and I need it fast," he said, never breaking eye contact.
The bartender turned from him, mumbling things to himself. "******** psycho. How come I always get the freaks?"

You see what I did there? I could have kept going if I had wanted to but I decided against that. I turned a one liner into a decent post and it wasn't that difficult. I could have added more detail if I desired. I don't expect everyone to make posts like this but please...add SOME detail.
Guild Timeline
There is a guild timeline set in place and it cannot be broken otherwise everything would become chaotic. Your character cannot be in two places at once, unless you have the ability to create clones. Your ability should be mentioned in your profile if you do have this gift. If your character is posting in the Elven Domain you cannot post in the Abysmal Haven as well, this of course applies to all threads, this is merely an example. If you are caught damaging the guild timeline I will give you a warning. If you wish to leave the thread you are currently RPing in, your character must make an exit post. The exit post doesn't have to be long but it cannot be a one liner. You do not have to disclose where you are going unless you feel the need to do so.
Quote:
Velocity had spent many hours in the pub, he was almost on the brink of being a drooling drunk. He didn't want to spend the night in the bar, he'd probably wake up with no shoes and no money. He struggled to rise onto his feet, stumbling back and forth he walked out the door. He needed a nice comfy bed to nurse the coming handover in, he made his way to the Elven Domain.
This is one example for an exit post.

This is also acceptable for a leaving post. As I mentioned earlier, you do not have to disclose where your character is going.

To help the newer members with any questions they may have and to assist them in increasing their writing skills we have developed a buddy system.
