I don't know what anyone else's experience with this is like, but I can usually get a feel on people's energy, especially if they are aware of it (usually people like this are vampires, otherkin, other witches, anybody into meditation. If you don't believe in one or more of those, humor me, I do).
It's not really an aura. I don't see it, I feel it, usually in a way that is overpowering. Some I like, they're like a pleasant drug and give me a small buzz to feel it. Others are very neutral- I feel it, I analyze it, I go on with my life.
However, until recently, I have never come in contact with energy that felt negative. This happened a few days ago, when talking to someone who I know, but not necessarily well. I suddenly was almost thrown back by this wave of negative energy (nothing threw me back physically, except for myself. I was just repulsed). It wasn't negative like sad or angry, it was negative in a way I can't find the way to describe. I felt dirty after feeling it. And ever since, I've been carrying around my most-used, favorite stone (amethyst) as a sort of half-comfort, half-protection, and even going so far as to cast spells to prevent nightmares before I go to bed.
One of my friends suggested white or black candles to light at home. Not sure what I'd do after I light them though...
Any suggestions? Debunkifying (oh, he likely just smelled really bad...)? Or just stories or comments of your own?

Maybe someone took great offense to you perving on other people's energy and essentially told you to ******** off.

Sanguina Cruenta Maybe someone took great offense to you perving on other people's energy and essentially told you to ******** off. Huh. Maybe. I don't actually mean to. Any suggestions on how to keep it from happening?

I don't think feeling people's energy/vibes/aura is really something you can make yourself stop doing. Isn't it basically having an extra sense? Even if someone can tell you're doing it, it doesn't really seem like something to get angry about. It's not like sensing another person's energy means you're stealing something from them.
My suggestion would be that, if you sensed that there is something wrong with that person, follow your instincts and be careful around them. Maybe try a banishing spell to keep them away from you.
