We have one. We gave up District Festival because she spent half the time underteaching us.
So every week we have playing tests for chair placement. But the thing was we never got results until the middle of the week. What's the point? We never learned our full parts because we changed practically every 2 days. She always works on theory and some people, don't get me wrong, they need theory. We all do. But we also needed to work on festival which she pretty much didn't do. No one can hear her talk. She yells when we don't listen.
Our school is one of the better bands in the state, and I can't believe her. I still love band but I don't think anyone should teach us but our BDs.

We don't have an exact 'intern'. Is your intern student teaching or something? We have a couple of people that help with marching, percussion, etc. and they sometimes come back and help and whatnot.

Like, right now, my band director is gone for a few days, so we've had our marching instructor come in and he's been substitute teaching. He did today and he's supposed to sub tomorrow too, I guess. He's an all right teacher but, he's somewhat picky and impatient, in my opinion. He's a cool dude though.

Yeah, she's working for college credit. We have instructors too, but they don't really do much with concert season. Usually our assistant band director conducts the concert band.

Yes. He's much nicer than our band director, but he focuses on theory a lot too and is having us compose. He can be a little boring and he doesn't get as much done as our actual director but he's better to be around- mainly because my director yells at me a lot, even if someone is making the mistakes...but she's a whole other topic... cry

Our student teachers were all a pain in the foot. They tried, don't get me wrong... they just weren't sure enough in themselves to direct. That was the most frustrating part. We could put up with the occassional mistakes, or the nervousness, or even the occassional switching of parts. But all of it, all the time? No. No freaking way. *shudders* I'm not sure if the student teacher or the substitutes that fail to direct are worse...
