"It seemed fair to reward people that participate in forums more; we hadn't revisited the curve in a while. With the BG botting changes + zOMG curve that we just put into place, we are still way ahead of the game in terms of total gold generation," the Gaia developer Pan stated, making note of a long-planned change to the way the site grants gold to its users.
This adjustment -- which also included OMGPOP, according to his post here -- gave me 125 gold for my first post today. 124 for the next, and 106 for the post following that.
According to Pan's Journal, "30-35% of the gold being generated by [Booty Grab] was botted gold [and in zOMG] the top 1% made 25-30% of the total gold created by zOMG yesterday." Therefore, these features received tweaks -- a captcha in BG, a cap in zOMG -- to help adjust the unfair flow of gold. "BG and zOMG outshadow anything else in terms of earning potential -- which means that either a) you play BG or zOMG to earn gold for your items, or b) you don't, and you just watch the price of the item always be unattainable. By adjusting the balance we're trying to make items on the marketplace attainable for people doing lots of different activities on Gaia."
Pan then goes on to explain that these tweaks are not perfect, and they are constantly watching the flow of gold and making adjustments as needed. But this is a fabulous step in the right direction.
I would highly suggest subscribing to Dev Notices and Pan's journal for more insight, and reading recent updates in both to really get a grasp of the efforts Pan and the team are putting forth to help balance out gold grants. In his linked journal entry, Pan addresses the concept of inflation as well.
Thoughts?

I like dis change. It always sucked to post so much but make nothing because I couldnt load games or they wouldnt go fast enough.
THA BALANCE IS TIPPING. i always hate how you had to be good at games or buy cash items to really make any gold. It was completely unfair. ;_;
YAY I WONDER HOW MUCH GOLDS I WILL GET?

It was completely unfair. ;_; Well, to some degree, the concept of cash purchasing equaling out higher gold earnings than players who only game/post makes sense -- a person who provides the site with real life money should be compensated. But in terms of in-website gold earning, BG and zOMG were wildly different than, say, puzzles or regular posting. Yet they take the same amount of time.
I can't wait to see the flood of new players old Flash games receive after it's widely announced that gold grants will be increasing. :3
