After a one week extension on the current CBA, the two sides, NFL and NFLPA could not reach an agreement on a new bargaining agreement, and the NFLPA has decided to decertify.
What this means, is that now the negotiations will end, and it will be decided in the courts how to split up the revenue.
When the Union decided to decertify, it means that there is no more union, it prevents the owners from locking out the players, and the players can individually file antitrust lawsuits against the NFL. Of course this also means that until the lawsuits are done, and a new deal is met, there will be no trades, no free agency, and most importantly, no football next season if a new deal is not met by then.
The owners came into the meeting room today with a new proposal that would shave off over 100 million more in revenue given back to the players, the Players were not satisfied and threatened to decertify, when the owners asked what they needed to do in order to prevent this and add yet another extension to the negotiations, the players union said they wanted full access to the owners financial records over the last 10 years. The owners refused, and now it will all be decided in the courts.
The players claim that the owners were acting in bad faith, can not be trusted, and were conspiring since day one to lock out the players, the owners in return say that they were committed to negotiations, and that the players union "Walked Out" on the process, and that they are the ones who should be blamed for negotiation failures.
As fans all we can hope for is that the courts will work out a new deal before the start of next season, otherwise we will start missing games. The Draft will go on as planned in April, from there no trades, training camps, mini camps, pre-season, ect. ect. until a new deal is met.

Silver Ace Revolver I hope they work something out...What about that whole 18 game situation? The last proposal the owners made to the players on the 18 game situation was that they wold keep a 16 game season for the next two years, and if they make enough profit from a proposed 1.8 billion off the top of the 9 billion revenue split they will drop the 18 game proposal all together, if not then they would move to increase the regular season by the year 2013 or 1014. But the players union rejected that. When linebacker Takeo Spikes was asked if he could play through an 18 game regular season he jokingly responded, "Yeah, on Playstation maybe."
The owners after the union decertified indeed locked out the players, saying that, "This isn't a lock out, its a players 'Walk OUT' we wanted to negotiate, they walked away from the negotiating table, and forced our hand in locking them out.
A players defense team led by Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Breese have already filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the owners.

Most of it has to be the money. Money is a strong issue. I can find a way to spilt the money give half to the players and the other half to the Owners that way everybody is happy.
