Well we got a HUGE amount of snow Monday. However I was deprived of it on account of my exam. Tuesday was the most beautiful ski day imaginable but I had to be a "good student" and go to class because I am actually failing the class I had that day (skied instead of studying for exam sweatdrop ) Today, biggest exam of my life. Tomorrow, the rain is suppose to start.

I'm so depressed about this. It's like, what's the point of getting all that snow if I never even get to touch it. Do I spend the money to go tomorrow even though it will probably start raining in the afternoon. Will I have another chance to ski this season? Is my season over already?

I need to move away from here seriously. Skiing is not just a hobby it is who I am and the thing I love doing most and I can only do it a few months a year. I get so depressed every spring it's ridiculous. I just feel like this winter is being cut short, I only got out 7 times. Which is like a record low.

I guess this is to a greater extent what normal people go through in the winter, the ones who sit indoors anyway and don't like the cold.

Since it's relevant, here's the latest video

School is more important, you have the rest of your life for skiing.
Just get your school stuff done, and try to pull your marks up.
It would suck to have to pay the money and retake a class. D=

I'm already spending an extra year to retake ONE class. So it actually doesn't even matter anymore.

I'm doing great in all OTHER classes. 80+ average for all my other classes. Just that particular class I failed the first theory exam. Not exactly from skiing instead of studying, I had all weekend to study I just have the WORST procrastination issues. I ended up studying like one lecture out of 5 or so.

And, I don't know that I'll have the rest of my life to ski. I'm the only person in my family still physically capable. Back issues on both sides of my family mean I'm pre disposed to back injuries. Like my brother, who has a herniated disc or something from a ski accident, well, it was an ugly landing I told him not to take it, you don't land on flats and expect NOT to hurt yourself. Then his motorcycle accident really did him in. Mom and dad both have bad knees. Actually, that could be from skiing, if you look at olympic mogul skiers, they've mostlty already had knee surgery at only 20yrs old. And my knees aren't great, but I decrease the amount of trauma as much as possible with strength training so my muscles support my knees. Big improvement from last year. Plus the new, extremely expensive boots help by absorbing a lot of the shock.

I don't want to waste my life studying, when you never know what the future could bring. Disability or sickness preventing me from working, early death even, who knows? I'd like to enjoy life and not constantly live for the future.

I get how you feel completely. It's pretty frustrating sitting in a lecture on a good cold day thinking about how great it would be to take the ferrets out and get some rabbits rumbling and bolting...just bear with it and see it out...gotta roll with the punches sometimes.

Think of it this way: Study=passing=good job=money=skiiing. Looking at it that way can make it easier.

I hate Spring as well.

Move here, there's only a few months out of the year the slopes are closed. lol Other than that, not entirely sure what to tell you other than sometimes we have to sacrifice what we like to do in order to do something we're going to love to do.

Now imagine you could only take the ferts out 4 months a year.

Having a good paying job I don't hate is the only thing that keeps me going. But, I do try to live in the moment. I mean, for instance there was a school shooting, yes, in Canada people have guns too. And one girl was killed. Here's a girl working a shitty telemarketing job, going to school to have a good future and dead at like 20yrs old. Ok, that's a drastic comparison but, let's take something more realistic. My brother spent 3yrs in college to become a cop and as soon as he graduates, the Montreal Police are actually cutting jobs. No one is hiring. All those years of studying basically wasted. He was applying in Ontario but that got put on hold because of his motorcycle accident. And nnooowww, he got himself a DUI (never ever mention this to anyone despite not knowing him he'll kill me for telling anyone) so he has an actual criminal record and can never be a cop.

All this to justify my lifestyle lol. I'm not a grade A student, so what, I don't spend every free moment studying. Least I'm trying to enjoy life.

We usually roll for around five months a year, sometimes less if it takes a long time to cool off and then heats up too quickly. One year we started at the end of April and finished at the end of July...now THAT sucked!

I do know what you mean, I really do. It is a balancing act when it comes down to it...and sometimes you do need to grit your teeth and make the scarifice. I'm going to lose nearly an entire month of ferreting this upcoming season due to University commitments. All of June, unless I start ferreting at night or something. The salt in the wound is that June is also the best month for it...gah. gonk

That sucks for your bro, and sucks even more for the lass who was shot, but there are many other people who have greatly benefitted from planning ahead. Doesn't mean your life has to be consumed by it. smile

Haha, I'm not exactly a model student... certainly do not study for any longer than I absolutely have to. I hate studying. You don't need to be a Grade A student, but passing your subjects is worthwhile.

tldr: Go skiing if you can afford to, but if it means you'll fail the class it is probably best to hold off.

I'm still doing better than a lot of people who never skip. My average was a steady 80 only now with midterms over it's down to 70-75. Make that 75-80. Excluding the class I that failed the first exam in. My lowest mark is a 75. And skiing was not the reason for failing that exam. It didn't help, but, I had all weekend to study and I only skied one day.

I find classes to be kind of pointless. I hate studying but even more I hate sitting in a large classroom listening to the teacher talk. I tend to just zone out and learn it on my own later right before the exam.

I went skiing yesterday, it's officially spring for the hills. When I arrived the snow was hard like a rock. It LOOKED like powder, but thanks to the rain was frozen solid. Made skiing very difficult. After lunch the warmth and sun softned it up nicely which made for good spring skiing. I decided to fool around in the snow park see if I could accomplish a goal or two of mine. See park is the one aspect of skiing I'm actually no good at. So after an hour I managed to land a 180 and grind a baby box without falling.

The video that broke my 300 dollar shock proof camera

And yes I realized it's a balance and I still need to think about the future. But, certain people who give me grief about skipping a few classes need to lighten up. You should never cry because you got a 70% on an exam. I got 48% on the exam in question. The teacher asked me what happened and I told her honestly. I didn't study at all. It sucks, it was stupid, but no point crying over spilt milk I will make up for it with the next exam.

Aw it's a shame to think of it as "wasting your life studying" ...have you considered why you don't like it? Maybe it's the wrong subject for you. I love school. I had an online course a few semesters ago and I MISSED going to lecture. If I can I'll go to school for the rest of my life. I am completely serious about that. If finances and time allow, I'd like to take at least one course in my free time each semester, even after my degrees are all finished. I missed school so much when I was sick.

No, I love my program, love my subjects. But sitting in a classroom, listening to someone talk on a beautiful sunny day goes against everything that I am. I've lost track of how many classes I missed and I'm still getting 80's The one class I am failing I went to every class, I just didn't study for the exam.

So ya, I don't want to waste my life sitting indoors listening to people talk about stuff I can read on my own.
