So two of my friends came over tonight and told me that they managed to get their hands on copies of the English Pokémon Black and White today.

Apparently they'd gone to our local flea market and found the games at a videogame vendor's booth. The guy seemingly didn't care that he was selling them early because he was the one selling them, not some store.

I might be alone in this, but something about the story just doesn't sit well with me. I already know that my moral ethics (is that redundant? ^^; ) are a lot more stringent than many people I know, and I can't put my finger on just what feels off about it, but... that's just the feeling I have.

They're sitting in our TV room right now playing their games. -.o Fortunately, they're being very considerate and not yakking overmuch about what they're doing because they know I've been actively avoiding any kinds of spoilers for the games until I get them for myself.

I dunno, I know it's only two days until the official release, but it bothers me.

I bet I'm the only one who would think this. =P

0.o That's insane. The guy probably stole them from some store. That or found a loophole with the system of the store that he works at & just put the tranaction in for Sunday. Idk for sure, but that is pretty odd. I wouldn't have bought them, just to be safe.

Oh good, so I'm not alone. u.u;

The first thing I asked them was if the games were bootlegged, and then if they were the Japanese versions. Apparently they're neither.

If they're neither, then where did the guy get them? Also, how would they know if they're bootlegged? Of course the guy wouldn't tell them.

He is technically a vendor (even if it is at a flea market) and has rights to obtain the game before its public release, though if he were reported to whatever distributor he obtains his games from, he could lose his rights to said early accessibility. I know I've obtain games before the release from family and friends that have worked for similar companies that are suppose to legally wait until the actual release date, and while such things aren't looked happily upon, it was a "gift" from friend-to-friend or even family-to-family. What he is doing is just borderline unethical in my opinion.

All seriousness aside, time for a joke... *clears throat* ... "maybe he thinks he's in Europe?" pirate

Well, I guess if it's not illegal, then whatever. I did ask Gamestop one time if they could release Diamond & Pearl early as a joke. They said that they would get charged like $100 or something ridiculous for every copy they sold early. So, I guess he could get in trouble, although it's not very likely.

& I don't get your joke....

The European release date was the 4th (ie- today), while the North American release date is on the 6th. Anyways, fines vary based upon the agreed contract between the retailer and the supplier (and probably even farther up the chain) and while it isn't technically illegal to sell games before the street release date, as already said, it can however result in the supplier no longer supplying the retailer and bring upon civil fines against the retailer per copy sold with no legal backlash done to the consumer (ie-person who bought the game before the street release date) as they were in no way involved in the agreed contract. I hope this clears everything, that's explainable, up.

I thought this was related so I'll share:

When "Kingdom Hearts: 358 1/2 Days" came out Last year, At Walmart I found that the Game was put on the shelves 4 days before the release!! So I asked the dude to take the game to the register so i could buy it, Well apparently the register was having problems bringing it up and would not let me buy the game because it wasn't officially released!! Then the dude was ordered to take the games back into storage!! So I wonder if Walmart is holding Black/White already? (you never know!)

Target does that too. They have the games in stock but don't have them in the system yet, so they don't get processed at the register. I've also know places like Kmart who would do the whole $9999.99 trick at their registers for games not technically released and the prices don't change back to normal until the day of the release.

People need to do their job right, and research their products!! God I hate K-Mart, the game section is horrible here!! thats probably why I found my Wii there within 3weeks of the release back in 2007, u have no idea how happy I was to find that thing so early!! lol

My Aunt and her boyfriend work at Wal-mart and said that they have them, but they're not going to stock them until like Midnight tonight and they haven't set the prices for them in their store system yet.
