What should we be polite?
Being polite smooths the way in relationships and shows you care and are thinking about the other person. Even if it's just to hold the door for a stranger or a smile it's thoughtful and kind thing to do. It's nice to help people!
Also, where is the line drawn between politeness and insincerity?
insincerity - the quality of not being open or truthful; deceitful or hypocritical
So when your polite words are false.
"For example, someone makes this absolutely repulsive outfit and asks you how it looks, and you say, "Wow, it looks great...!"
So in this case I'd probably not say "OH MY GOSH IT LOOKS LIKE VOMIT" I'd use some tact and (a small tip is to) ask a question.
Or I'd pick one thing I like and say something like "Well I really like the cut, not too sure if the colour goes with your hair."
