There are times when Nudge truly wishes that a Kimeti could kick itself without looking ridiculous and falling over, because he would most assuredly be kicking himself now. Honestly, what had made him offer his cave as shelter?

And from the grin on his brother's face, this night will be eventful to say the least.

"Come. It's this way." He turns to leave, then calls over his shoulder, "Mustn't forget what Wood Spider gave you, though. Have you managed to retrieve it yet? Or would you care for some help?" Though really, applying force to his brother to wedge him into a tree might not be as elegant a form of torment, Nudge nevertheless takes a moment to enjoy the thought of getting his brother stuck.

He never notices the little foxbun standing nearby. He's learned to ignore the fluffy critters. But he really should pay more attention.

Truth Unveiled's reply is just as slippery and oily as he can muster. "I think it will be safe for another night. Of course, if I can't fit in, no kimeti can. Not even you."

Nimble foxbun paws (and a tiny foxbun body) make the tree no challenge to enter. Picking up the hollow stone, Spider considers simply taking it, because no object should cause this much dissention in the ranks. However, after a brief moment of thought she leaves it alone and races back to the two bucks as they make their way through the swamp.

Scaring the everloving Swamp out of them will be the lesson they need, rather than simply taking the rock. She chitters merrily to herself.

Truth Unveiled follows his brother at a sedate pace, and then stops in his tracks as the foxbun chitters. "...ugh. I could swear we're being laughed at. Foxbuns." He shrugs, and continues walking. "How much farther?"

A inelegant snort is Nudge's reply, followed by the rejoinder, "Why would think I'd retrieve it for you? No, brother mine, I'd simply planned to help you get a bit farther into the hollow, is all." Then, perhaps he would have gone off to "look" for "help" or a few vines to tie about his brother and yank him out again.

The foxbun finally draws Nudge's notice, with its hair and the necklace. Probably someone's pet, lost. But it is still only a foxbun, and so he says, "I think you overestimate the minds of foxbuns. Or are you typically tormented by such harmless creatures?" There are days he lives to be obnoxious, and today is most assuredly one of them.

Truth Unveiled simply smiles at his brother -- a sunshine-and-rainbows sort of expression. The smile is as bright as the noonday sun. "What, you would harm your brother? We came from the same clutch! You would have just left me in that hollow..."

Truth has just the smallest inkling of who the foxbun is. It's the markings, and the charms around the neck; the charms are a dead giveaway. Not many kimeti put such stock in charms. Truth stops in his tracks, tail lashing idly against his flanks, and tips his head at his brother. "Wouldn't you?"

The foxbun is looking from buck to buck, blue eyes glittering with what seems to be intelligence far greater than any foxbun ought to have. Truth Unveiled shrugs. "I like foxbuns. Why the hate, brother mine?"

That smile....cannot be a good thing. Truth has something planned, Nudge is certain.

"Perhaps," he says with a careless flick of a hoof. "Perhaps not. Who knows? I could have simply been aiding my brother in an endeavor to retrieve something so precious to hi it must be guarded at all times. I'm not all made of ice, you know. Sometimes I'm even downright pleasant. Aren't I giving you shelter?"

Nudge sighs. "It's not hate, Truth. It's simply a form of mild disdain for a creature that has, to me, proved to be fairly useless. Other than watching them flee from predators, I don't see the point of them. Besides, all the fluff is annoying." There is no way that Nudge would ever reveal his deeply hidden (to his own mind, anyway) love of the fluffy creatures.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Hmm," says a voice -- a familiar voice. A female voice, from where the foxbun had stood just a moment earlier. In its place is Wood Spider, as slim and long-legged as a filly, but not how either one of her sons knew her to be. Instead, she commands a presence, a sense of knowledge; she flips long, tangled hair out of her face, and then smiles at them both. It is maybe a little amused. "I find them to be quite useful. They have hands and can fit in places that most kimeti can't. You should be nicer to your brother, Nudge."

Truth stands open-mouthed. For all that he had assumed (and correctly) that the foxbun was his mother -- how he knew he has no idea -- it's still another thing entirely to watch her shift form and become a tangible, clearly legendary kimeti. Obviously her connection to the Swamp and her charms wasn't all a bunch of bunk like most thought it to be. Glancing at Nudge, he then looks back to his mother and then says, "Did you just tell him to be nice?"

Nudge, for once in his life, is completely speechless. His mouth drops open when the doe with the coat similar to his speaks. ...No, she couldn't....

This can't be his mother, the famed Wood Spider, the odd doe with the charms that are little more than pieces of debris.

And then she tells him to be nicer to his brother. Apparently, she was. "They are still small and annoying. And I beg your pardon? He's been just as rude and sarcastic as I've been, and he started it!" He really does sound like a whining foal when he takes on that tone.

It turns out, in the presence of his mother, even meeting her for the first time, Nudge becomes a newly freed foal.

Looking him up and down, she stands primly on the thick cypress root, dainty hooves white against the moss. "You're a full-grown buck! It's time to act like one. Your brother, too," she adds, silently enjoying Truth Unveiled's sudden, aghast stare. "But the Swamp has heard entirely too much of the both of you." She widens her eyes. She would know, the expression seems to say -- the Legendary kimeti are able to directly bend the ear of the Motherfather, or so the rumor goes. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. She grins; the expression is sudden and striking. Rarely does she ever grin. "Shall I create something for you to help with that, Nudge?"

Truth Unveiled blinks between his mother and his brother, feeling as though he's rooted in place. He wonders whether or not Nudge's temper will get the best of him -- whether he realizes his mother is teasing him. Truth considers slinking off back towards his tree (and his rock), but then frowns. "What's that rock for? The one I have?"

Spider blinks, trying to remember, and then shrugs, as if this is all very obvious -- it should be. "For farsight. True sight. Did you find it?"

And here Truth's eyes slide away to one side, a touch embarrassed.

User Image "Help? Help with what, subduing him?" He blinks. "Are you talking about turning me into a foxbun?" Nudge looks at his mother's grin and a tendril of anxiety creeps into his heart. The horror. He'd never live it down if his mother actually can turn him into one--not that he thinks she can, but the Swamp only knows what Legendaries can do. "No, thanks all the same, I'd rather you save your...gifts for Kimeti who need them."

He lets out a silent sigh when she turns to the other offspring in the little circle they've created, then snickers at his brother's reaction.

"His rock is supposed to give him farsight? He must not know how to use it, then, he didn't see me coming at all." For Nudge, it is a very unsubtle dig at his brother, and likely a bad idea, considering his mother has just lectured them both on acting like adult Kimeti.
