"No...I'm done," Neko brought up a hand to refuse the offer of a refill. He was already out of it. At the moment he felt like he could close his eyes and just be gone for a good couple of hours.

Neko still wasn't quite sure what Jess was talking about, maybe he was talking about the photographer in his drunken stupor? Or maybe he was seeing someone else entirely, though Neko didn't know alcohol to make anyone hallucinate. Leaning against the arm of the couch, Neko rested his head against his hand, his drunken mind unable to process the various thoughts plaguing him at the moment. His 'tattoo' was the furthest thing from his mind though. No need to worry about something that couldn't be saved....but he was worried about what or who rather still had a chance, his gaze shifting to Riyo as she drug her father into the den.

"I guess you'll be staying here tonight?" Or at least he hoped she wouldn't just dump her dad here and leave. Lord knew Neko didn't want to wake up and deal with that alone and the man didn't seem very...mobile at the moment.

"If you don't mind... I don't particularly know where he's staying... And carrying him would be sorta awkward anyways." Oh, if the press happened to catch them at that moment...

As Jess was placed back in his seat, his head rolled back to look up at his daughter. "Hey... Remember how you used to be afraid of spiders?" He asked, looking up at her with half-lidded eyes.

"Not really." ... Even though she still was.

"Good. Cause there's one on your head right now." Smiling, the vocalist pointed upward, though it was hard to keep it straight.

Riyo's eyes widened to the size of golf balls at the idea of a hairy, eight legged monstrosity crawling around on her head. "GET IT OFF!" She screamed, raising her hands to try and smack the small creature away. She wasn't scared of spiders... She was absolutely terrified of them.

"... Just kidding." Jess couldn't suppress his need to laugh for long, because his daughter looked downright insane now that her hair was out of sorts and the look of panic was written all over her face.

Stopping in her unnecessary panic, her face turned from frightened to pissed off with the snap of a finger. Walking behind the chair he sat in, Riyo casually tipped it over and dumped him out on the floor, promptly taking his seat and using the pancake of a man as a footrest. "a**."

Neko gave a nod, that was fine he supposed. He didn't have much going for him in the ways of reason and thinking. Curious about the spider bit, Neko looked toward Riyo as she began to spaz out. She carried on for a few seconds before her dear old man decided to let her in on the joke.

Giving a chuckle, Neko leaned back into the couch. "I wish I could remember that tomorrow." He said rather sleepily. The chuckling and half smile he had faded a little as he stared at the empty fireplace. "And forget other things.." A little curious, Neko's gaze settled on Riyo as she took the seat her father had previously occupied. "What do you see in your future, Riyo?"

Attempting to straighten out her hair, Riyo made a face when Neko wished he could keep that little tidbit of information. Thank God he'd probably forget it.

... But the question he'd followed up with took the anger away, which was quickly replaced with a sad smile. "That's a good question... Since I don't know the answer to it."

For a moment, she stayed quiet. "... When I try to think about it... All I see are black clouds covering the end of a winding trail... I never fantasized about what I wanted to do as a kid." Allowing her head to sink back in the cushion of the chair, she glanced up at the ceiling.

"I just wanted to live. Live without the fear that I'd be dead in a ditch somewhere with nobody to realize I'm missing."

Subconsciously, her hand moved to her stomach. It was something she'd thought about many times before..

"So. I guess... I'm living in the future."

Silently, Jess listened to his daughter's words, hiding his surprise in the carpet where his face laid. Things... Had really been bad, hadn't they? But saying something now would just cheapen his words. He WAS drunk, after all.

There seemed to be a bit more awareness in Neko's eyes as Riyo spoke though it was still up in the air as to whether he would remember this encounter or not. At best he could speak a little more clearly and not sound like an idiot. It was sad to hear her perception of a future or lack there of but...

"This isn't your future. This is just the beginning of living for you." For still being drunk that was bordering on profound. He still had quite a bit of hope for her future yet and he didn't want her to give up on it. She may have compared herself to Mel but to him she was no where close. There was still a chance. "In a way you've started over so maybe its time to choose a different path than the one you're on. No one said there was only one road." Okay so drinking made him chatty apparently.

'No one said there was only one road.'

The words echoed through her mind briefly, then fell silent... Until a new echo shouted in answer to the prior: 'Yes there was.'

"You don't..." Riyo started to say, leaning forward in an attempt to describe her situation... Until an overwhelming chill when up her spine.

"I... " For a moment her eyes had looked hopeful, like she was going to bring light to something that had been eating her for a long time... But it faded out at the angry hiss from a source she was familiar with and confused about all the same.

Cupping her hands in her lap, she twiddled her fingers nervously, at a loss for words. It felt like there was a knife pointed at the back of her neck, just like the times her mother had given her 'etiquette lessons'. If she ******** up... She'd get it good.

"... The other paths don't matter if you've got somebody with a knife at your back pointing forward." Riyo mumbled softly, as if she was trying to speak soft enough to not be overheard by the rest of the room. "You could try to turn around and fight them. Yeah. For all you know, the knife is just plastic. Or it could turn into a six-shooter and blow you away."

Not feeling the repercussions of saying too much after moments of finishing her previous statement, she continued.

"But... What's waiting behind those clouds is probably worse than physical pain."

Fortunately or unfortunately, Jess had somehow grown comfortable on his patch of the floor and dozed off as he usually did when he had too much to drink... Which was often. Landed him in many different places... Most fairly terrifying. But at least he was safe here... For the most part.

Neko's eyes settled on the girl as she began to fidget in her chair seeing that look of hope start to spring up and then quickly fade away. "Is there someone else holding you back?" As far as he knew her mother had been her only real obstacle. True her father was an obstacle but that was a different matter entirely. "Is there someone else there holding the knife to your back or is it just you? Just because you've grown accustomed to one way of life with only one end doesn't mean it can't be changed." He was one to talk but it sounded nice. A pretty lie he supposed, at least when it came to him.

Neko couldn't help but glance at Jess sleeping soundly on the floor. He was so glad the man could offer up some advise to his daughter while she was obviously struggling. Yet again Neko was finding himself in slightly unfamiliar territory of trying to encourage and be supportive. Not only was he trying to be those things but he was trying to do it while drunk.

"Riyo, you don't have to believe or listen to me, I'm not much of a teacher, I can barely be called a friend, and I'm certainly not a father. My situation is different so I can't entirely relate though there are similarities. But....I have hope for you..." He focused in on her face as he spoke, his eyes settling on her crimson orbs. "...and as cheesy as it is to hear I believe in you. I think you can make the future whatever you want it. Whether it will be easy, who knows but I think that cloudy end can be avoided and ...I'll help the best I can."

Riyo's eyes immediately averted from Neko's glance when he questioned her on somebody else 'holding her back'. "There is nobody holding me back." In truth, that was the problem. /he/ wasn't holding her back. /he/ was pushing her forward... But she wouldn't say anything else at the risk of spilling too much.

But... The words that followed hit a couple of cords as they traveled through her. Sometimes Neko was a complete a**. Okay... A lot of the time...

But he could also be sweet and sincere... While drunk. Eh. It was something.

Sighing, a smile crossed her lips. Without a word, she stood up, carefully stepped over the useless lump of flesh in the middle of the floor, and returned to the seat she'd previously occupied next to him on the couch. "And I have hope for you, because you're much more than you give yourself credit for." The mushiness of the moment half- made her stomach churn, but something told her Neko didn't see enough of them.

Giving him a gentle pat on the knee, Riyo looked up at him with a reassuring smile. "I won't give up on myself if you'll do yourself the same courtesy."

Neko seemed a little surprised to see Riyo heading back over to the couch toward him and taking a seat. "Hope...for me?" A half smile tugged at the corner on his mouth as he looked to the hand patting his knee. Did he think he had hope? No, not really. He had a chance. He had multiple chances. Now was his chance to help someone else...but hell he could pretend. It would be nice to believe, wouldn't it? Maybe for a little while he could believe he had a future too.

"Deal," He said patting her hand. "I'll keep you to your word." Reaching up he ruffled up the hair Riyo had previously just soothed down. "Alright, enough with the mushy feelings. I'm barely conscious and your dad already checked out. Why don't you take the bed, I'm...pretty comfortable here." Of course, in his current state, Neko would be comfortable on a gravel driveway in rainy season.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 20, 2011 9:40 pm

Well, it was nice that he had, at the very least, decided to 'play along'.

... But Riyo didn't think he realized how truthful she'd been. Saying he was worth more than he thought. Without him around, who would she come crying to all the time? Klyde just wanted to punch the s**t out of whatever made her upset. And a lot of times... That just didn't work, as... 'sweet' of a sentiment as it was. Neko would talk to her about it. Sometimes tell her what she didn't want to hear. It was good to have somebody be blunt no matter the situation.

There was a muffled grumble as Riyo's hair was tossed out of sorts yet again, shooting him a short glare before smiling again. "And I'll keep you to yours." She would, too. Somehow... Like Neko, she didn't have much faith in her situation, but if she could make him feel like he was worth something, maybe she could help with his future.

About to debate with him on why he should take the bed, Riyo opened her mouth to speak, but realized that carrying him anywhere would feel just as awkward. "... Alright." Riyo reluctantly caved, standing and walking over to the closet for the spare blankets.

It only took her a second to drag out one for each of the guys, draping the first over Neko with a smirk, then the other on Jess, who almost immediately curled up with it. "You want me to get you anything before you go to bed?"

As soon as Riyo vacated her seat Neko kicked off his shoes and threw his legs up on the couch. It wasn't long after that Riyo draped the blanket over top of him. He would have joked and said 'thanks mom' but that was something he couldn't quite do. "No, I'm fine."

Giving a yawn he settled down into the couch his eyes already closing for sleep. There were other things on his mind at the moment but his body wasn't going to permit him to stay up any longer and contemplate them. He would just have to worry about it tomorrow. "Night, Riyo." He mumbled softly before he started to drift off.

"Night Neko." Riyo replied softly before moving to his room. It was kinda weird, sleeping in somebody else's bedroom alone.

Quietly turning down the covers, the feline crawled in and practically burrowed in until only the top of her head was visible.

Thoughts of the previous conversation started to drift in as the silence grew more evident. Was there any chance she could avoid those storm clouds? Even with Neko's encouragement, she wouldn't get her hopes up... There was another voice, after all...

"Riiiiyo. Why change the path when it's what you've walked for so long?" The whisper of a man arose from behind her, causing her to shut her eyes.

"I'll follow you no matter what path you choose..."
