No problem, I love showing off my baby. She's my pride and joy. I am SO worried about shipping her on Monday. Not worried that she'll die or anything, because RTs are pretty hardy, but I'm scared to death that something will go wrong and they'll lose her or send her back here. They have a very long life span and I purchased with the intention of having her around for most of the rest of my life, so I don't know what I'll do if anything happens to her...

We believe in adopting or buying from a reputable breeder. This will be my first dog and I really want to adopt. My favorite dogs are papillons and there is a pap rescue 40mins away from where we'll be, however, they are very expensive and I don't really have any solid vet references, so we will probably just go with our town's rescue and get something like a German Shepherd mix. We have a big fenced in yard and I'll have a lot of free time. The dog has to get along with cats, other dogs (and be able to keep up with Blue, the resident dog.) and small children, so that's a tall order.

i know what you mean. X_X to bad you couldn't smuggle her on board the plane. but the tsa is crazy these days. and that is a pretty tall order to live up to, but i'm sure you'll be able to find a good match. i would try to give some vet references, alas i know none in Florida xP anyway a bigger breed dog would probably be a little easier to take care of anyway. i've always had a fear of stepping on a small dog. :/

Yeah, it's so dumb, reptiles aren't allowed on planes for safety reasons, but I think they should take into account that not all reptiles are dangerous. Lazy can't strangle anyone, she's not venomous, and at worst a bite from her would be like getting a piece of skin caught in a zipper. I prefer big dogs as well after papillons.

exactly. and have you heard about the "under cover tsa" that made through w/a gun in her undies 5 times?! but you would probably get put on a terrorism list or something for just trying to bring along a beloved pet.
i have always liked large breed dogs too. they are usually more well adjusted and laid back when compared to most little dogs.

I knooow! That is insane. We need some kind of new system in place for flying, and less restrictions for bringing important items with you.

maybe if Amtrak would do like a major overhaul, people would use that mode of long distance travel more.

That's also a possibility. Personally I wanted to drive because it would be easier, but our car broke down and it would be a really expensive drive. It was a little under $300 for our tickets and the cat's, plus your first checked bag is free with jet blue. I also looked into a u-haul and it would be close to $1,000 for the smallest size. Insanity!! People moving across the country need better options.
