Personally, I loved The Room.

Being trapped in a confined space has always scared me, and SH4 only made that fear all the more present. Not to mention the hole...the first time I had to crawl through that thing, I was freaked out. And when the hauntings started, I was uneasy about leaving the "otherworld" to go to my "safe house". Team Silent really outdid the creepy factor, making this game one of the scariest for me. For instance, finding out Walter's corpse was in your room all along was really creepy and a GREAT twist.
The creatures are all amazing (except walter's victim's ghosts...those are annoying) especially the one designed after the twin's that Walter had slain.

A few of the environments were a bit weak, too small for my taste...and the replay of each level is a bit cheap to me.
The inventory maxout was the lowest point, I'd say. Next to the loss of the radio and flashlight.

Really tho, the characters are strongest in this game to me. Henry is so lovable, and I actually FELT bad for him a lot of the time. Eileen is alright, and her AI isn't too bad during companion missions. A lot of people complain that she keeps hitting Walter and Ghosts when their trying to run...but that is easily fixed by UNEQUIPPING EILEEN'S WEAPON.

The plot was good, my only complaint there was that in SH2, it said that Walter murdered 2 people, the twins, and then killed himself in prison. And now in SH4 they say it wasn't him and that the real Walter Sullivan had never died at the prison and that it may have been someone else who committed suicide, or the person who the police arrested was not the real Walter Sullivan. But I guess they had to come up with something to go forward.

I loved the SH2 tie in with James Sunderland's dad, Frank, that was neat.

Honestly, I could go on and on about how this is a great addition to the SH series. xp
I wish I could tip this post, but unfortunately you can't do that in guilds.

I agree for the most part, though.

*looks at my own username* Yes well it must be quite obvious I am a dire obssessed fan of Silent Hill 4: The Room. This is by far my all time favorite silent hill game (and I wonder if that could ever change?) I have spent years studying every aspect of the game from one pixel to the next analyzing details, specific features, hidden messages, and creating generalized hypothesis on accumulated data.

I disagree that Silent Hill 4 wasn't a scary game, because when I first played it, I couldn't get past the Subway World (first time) for almost three months because I had horrible nightmares from my first encounter with the ghosts. I found the double headed monster (Billy and Miriam Locane) to be rather eerie as well, especially when it sat perched at the end of a hallway simply staring at you.

The view is not as simply as you make sound, and I think a lot of players would agree upon playing for the first time. Certain camera angles make knowing whats ahead (or behind) a real challenge. And while they did take away the radio, seeing the screen turn red and hearing the creepy white noise as a ghost looms closer is just as much a push for adrenaline. Also, entering your apartment and hearing the stereo play static because you have a haunting, but not knowing where it is, was a rather startling event.

Now, I love Silent Hill 4 for its deep characters, interesting history, and all the information you can dissect from it. Every character has a story to tell and so much more to discover with every play through and analysis. The graphics were amazing for the time period that it was released in, and I absolutely love the soundtrack! Akira Yamaoka never disappoints!

The only thing I will point out is that while Henry's apartment was located in Ashfield, not too far from Silent Hill, the tunnels he traveled in did in fact take him to different places around Silent Hill.

I pretty much agree.

When I say the game wasn't scary, I guess I mean it wasn't scary all the time. The only monsters that scared me were the Twin Victims. When I played Silent Hill 2, I was on edge constantly. I feel more relaxed with Silent Hill 4.
And I'm glad I'm not the only one who had nightmares from Silent Hill games. Silent Hill 2 seriously ******** my mind up for a bit. xD

And yes! The music is amazing. I really, really love the Room of Angel track.

Haha glad to see to we share a common enemy twisted And I'll admit that Silent Hill 4 does have a more relaxed atmosphere, but it's a fitting one nonetheless.

To be honest, I'm glad to find another person willing to dedicate as much appreciation and detail to Silent Hill 4 as I am in this guild.

My favorite Silent Hill 4 track is Cradle of Forest, and then another one I enjoy listening to is called Remodeling. Room of angel is definitly good

Those are both good songs, but this was strictly about Silent Hill 4. Otherwise I would have also mentioned Judgement from Silent Hill 2 (also commonly referred to as Pyramid Head's Theme)

The Room was GREAT. It was the first Silent Hill game I have experienced, and it is STILL my favourite. I found it not really scary....but like....emotionally/mentally disturbing. After you play, it just...haunts you. At least in my case.

I loved it. All time favourite.

Yes, SH4 is amazing.

The mentally disturbing thing is how I felt with SH2. It still "haunts" me. emo

Glad to see more silent hill 4 appreciation mrgreen I recently bought the game again simply because it was a great deal at gamestop, and my other copies (having gone through 2 others now) are played to disuse. Also, I never mentioned it before, but earlier someone mentioned making an account for room 302... I wanted to point out that, my character being Henry, I made my house on Gaia to look like Henry's living room. I think if you guys wanna visit it you will agree i did a good job on it.

All this reading though is making me wanna play it again. Can't wait to plop myself down in the dark again! By the way, I found a great way to deal with people who dislike The Room... it involves a can of bug spray, a large flight of stairs, and a rusty axe. Haha just kiddin.
