  READY... SET... GO!
have mercy and from below… adventuremeti
From Below stopped his hooves in anticipation, looking up at the challenge in front of him with glowing eyes. He peered through the ominously knotted trees and grinned. When he had tagged along on his father’s hunting trips a lot and he remembered the day that their wanderings had brought them past this stop. Kindness had told him that he was not to go exploring there.
“Your mother would kill me.” He explained nonchalantly. Of course this had only fanned the spark of From’s interest and he couldn’t resist trying to take a peak over the rocky hill. But his father and caught him, dragged him back home and refused to take him out for a few days. The next time they had gone hunting he showed his son how to trap toadrats with hollow logs and the young buck had forgotten all about the taboo place.
And now he was back, eager to see what all the drama was about. He knew a couple of kimeti who lived in the area, they told him that nobody was stupid enough to travel through there. The hillside was covered with thorny plants that snared in your fur and the weeds grew so high they obscured your view. An underground creek had been chewing away at the inside of the hill for so long that it was practically hollow and the ground has caved in in places or gotten so thin it could give way under a songbird’s weight. All kinds of pesky creatures had taken up residence there, but the worse were the poisonous snakes. And if that wasn’t had enough, it was a steep climb.
“Nobody is stupid enough to go that way.” They had told him. From had just smiled and nodded.

"Rook! Pawn! Come back here!" Havemercy called after her two mongeese as they skittered up a tree, chattering to each other senselessly. The red doe trotted to the base of the tree and glared up at her charges. "Get down here right now," she said, stomping a hoof impatiently. "Rook, come on," Have pleaded to the elder mongoose, knowing him to be the more well behaved of the two. "We've got somewhere to go today."
Rook, sensing his master's impatience and excitement, obliged, and scampered down the trunk of the tree a bit before taking a little hop onto Have's back. His daughter, Pawn, followed obediently, climbing up Havemercy's neck and placing her front paws on the doe's head, peeking out from between her golden horns like a lookout. Have held in a chuckle at the young mongoose's enthusiasm and flicked her tail as they headed off.
The place they were going was one that most kimeti preferred to avoid at all costs -- but Have wasn't most kimeti, and the prospect of treacherous sinkholes, rough hillside, clinging thorns, and even poisonous snakes filled her with excitement. She had been planning an adventure to this place for a while now, but something had always held her back before. Now that Rook's children had grown and she had another familiar to help her, however, she felt that the time had come.
As they approached the hill, Have slowed to a stop and stood for a moment, examining it. "Rook," she said finally, looking over her shoulder to the red mongoose on her back. "You go ahead of us and test the ground. But be careful! Don't fall in any holes." The little mongoose chittered an affirmative and leapt gracefully from the doe's back, disappearing off into the brush ahead. Pawn moved to follow him, but Havemercy stopped her with a flick of her ear. "No Pawn, you stay here," she said, wanting to keep the younger mongoose close both for her own safety and that of her pet. "I need you to stay up there and keep a look out for snakes, okay?" The darker mongoose squeaked and resumed her position on Have's head, and they began to pick their way along behind Rook.
