Ever have your BD give you, or your section a compliment on stuff?
Mine like my hair because I'm a redhead, and then one time he told my section while we were doing sectionals that he loved us, just because the group of people who were in it were I guess his favorite people, or just how we were.

My BD tells us to "Blow Thunder" sometimes cause we're not playing loud enough. Our section's name is the "Thundertones"(Euphonium/Baritone) Oh yeah, sometimes shes all like "Kiana is the coolest lookin baritone back there with them hats she be wearin and that green hair..." she does that randomly in the middle of class...

Haha fun stuff!
So, one day we were practicing Paris Sketches during symphonic band, and there's a part in the second movement where the altos and the tenor saxes have solos together. So the first time we got to that part, I played the dynamics and got the notes down pretty well. So the BD stopped us and was just like "Altos, there are three of you and there's only one tenor. Yet, she covers up ALL OF YOU."
Couldn't help but smile. sweatdrop

I am the only bass clarinet in my band and our BD has been lecturing us on how the low voices should be the last thing you hear in a peice of music. We where playing Moscow, and the last note is a stacato quarter note, and the trumpets where cutting out soon enough, and the lower voices (barri sax, trombone, bass clarinet). We tried it one time, and I was the only one who held the note right. I thought I'd messed up, but then my BD turned to me and said. "See! She did it right!" In another part of that song, the lower voices had the melody, and it was very strong and accented. He was working with just me, barri and trombone. I was the only one who plaied the dinamics right the first time. He got all happy saying I was the only one who actually had the feel for the part. He also often looks over and just smiles at me when I do some thing right. I am led to believe my section (bass clarinet section) is the best. xd

Compliments mostly consist of, for me: *I'd like to thank Katy for putting this event together...~clap clap~ *Thank you for writing up that parent letter! ("signed" by him) *Thanks for (spending hours) finding an amazing deal on t-shirt orders. Sadly we're not going to order any this year....too bad you're graduating! *You're so good about running to the store when I forget about the things I promised to bring! *Thanks for starting warm ups this morning! (every morning... I hate mornings. ;; ) *Thanks for fundraising over half our budget. (seriously) Too bad I spent almost all of it on tubas (we don't need) rather than for the senior trip I promised all of you.
My band director is a great conductor and very competent musically, but is also an air-headed idiot.

Whenever someone does good on a playing test he says one of the following, "That was beautiful," "Great playing," "Thank you for actually practicing," but his most common one is, "That's why everybody likes you."

For me it's always things along the lines of "thanks for covering for me while i was out" or "good job being the only one that practiced" or "thanks for doing that fundraiser" or "thanks for cleaning the band room".
Seriously, as drum major, I always get stuck doing everything because I guess I'm supposed to. haha
