I thought that you guys(especially those who are just learning to read Japanese) might enjoy having some authentic Japanese stories to translate on your own.
I can't remember where I found them, so I couldn't give you the source, but I have like 40 pages of these stories, so if people like these three two that I am going to type out for you, I'll post more to read =D
INSTRUCTIONS
Go through and select words, one by one.
Get out your dictionary and find the word.
On a separate sheet of paper, or in a word-doc, write the meaning of the word. EXAMPLE; むかし むかし、:
むかし＝ Oldendays, former
むかしむかし＝ Once upon a time, long ago
As you work through it, you may run into particles. Just find some place on teh interwebs or in a book you own to look up particles.
When you have done all of this, you can decipher the meanings and find out what it means!

PS:
People tend to remember the words better if they have to work through the process of figuring out what it means, so I am NOT ever going to put the meanings in a separate post. You are welcome to, but please, people who haven't done the work, don't go to the translations first. After you have done the work YOURSELF, then go and compare it to the other translations.

さわってなりません。 それで、 みことを いじめてばかり いました。 いずもの くにの すぐ となりに、 いなばの くにが あって、 そこに やかみひめ という うつくしい おひめさまが すんでいました。 おおきにぬしのみこともにいさんの はみさまたちも、
＜ぜひ、 やかみひめを じぶんの おとめさんに
したいものだ。＞
と かんがえていました。
あつひのこと。 きょうだいの かみさまたちが あつまって、 そうだんし、
「いなばの きにへ いって、 でれが いちばｎ よいか、
やかみひめに きめてもらおう。」
と いうことに なりもした。
さて、 いよいよ いなばの くにへ ではけることに
なりましたが、 にいさんたちは、 にもつが じゃまで なりません。
そのとき ひとりが、
「そうだ！ よいことを かんがえたぞ。」
と いうと、 おおきな ふきろを もってきて、 その なかに みんなの にもつをいれたのです。 すれから おおくにぬしのみことに、
「おまえは いちばん とししたなのだから、
これを かついでゆけ！」
と いいつけました。
