http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110213/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_egyptIve been paying close attention to this event since the protests began weeks ago, and now we have a situation where
1. the president has been kicked out
2. the military have taken over the role of the police
3. parliament has been dissolved
4. the constitution has been suspended
5. the police are protesting the military control and blaming their actions on superiors
6. the people wanted it this way
normally, #2,3, and 4 would be a horrifying scenario for our own governments (wherever you are), but when you look carefully at #1, and #5, you have to ask, why #6?
From what I get out of it, there was a Police State controlled by a Dictator and a puppet parliament, where the police were acting more like task master oppressors, and then blaming their actions on their superiors,
which really shouldn't fly too well as an argument for a military tribunal formed of military men who decided to protect the people rather than their dictator. I.E., if the military has enough common sense to recognize tyranny, why can't the police?
This is all a very optimistic look at the Egypt situation, and more than likely, the current dictator and rules are being replaced with some alternative dictator and rules. My guess is the new government will be closer to a theocracy, which to male heterosexual members of that religion, will seem like a paradise, but to some women, or homosexuals, will seem like a great leap backward into Dystopia.
