Lynian

Lynians are a race of sapient creatures who are native to the land. There are currently only two known Lynian species: the cat-like species which harbor the Melynx and Felyne, and the humanoid Shakalaka. They are both "intelligent", have "complex" societies, and use a language, although the Shakalaka are more primitive and barbaric. While the cat species tend to live peacefully in democratic societies. Before they build more intensive relation with human, they seem like already have their own civilization. The Shakalaka are governed by a king or ruler, also known as King Shakalaka, identified by a bigger mask. Both the Felyne and Shakalaka can help human hunters.

Felynes are one of two cat-like, humanoid subspecies of the Lynian race, the other being the Melynx. Felynes are recognized by their white fur and have the ability to talk in human language, and can be found both in human villages and in the wild.

Felynes perform a small variety of jobs in villages, from shopkeeping to farm maintenance, but most notably they may work under a hunter as Felyne Chefs or Felyne Comrades. Felyne Chefs cook food for their hunters to support them in their adventures by temporarily bestowing them with beneficial status effects, while Felyne Comrades assist their hunters on quests by using various skills and attacks. They give a reward at the end of the quest as well.

Nicknames: Stealing Cat, Ninja Kitty, Cat Burglars, Black Cat

Status Inflictions: None

Habitats: All

Melynx are cat-like humanoids called Lynians, noted by their black fur and with the ability to talk in human language and do human activities like their fellow lynian subspecies called the Felynes. They are found both in human villages (such as Pokke Village) working for their human masters and living in the wild with their fellow Lynians.

Melynx in human villages sometimes take job opportunities, mostly as Felyne Chefs and/or Felyne Comrades. Felyne Chefs cook food for their customer to support them in their adventures by temporarily enhancing their abilities. Felyne Comrades assist their masters throughout quests with skills to make hunting easier and gather more items than usual.

Wild Melynx come in groups when not in their village. They wait for hunters to come by their place and become a victim of their thievery. When Melynx spot a human victim in their area, they begin charging to them and steal items. Once they obtain an item, they run away and dig underground, never to be encountered again (but rarely replaced by other Melynx). When a Melynx has been defeated while holding a stolen item, the item can be taken back by their victim. The Melynx then digs underground, defeated. Some Melynx, when defeated, leave an sparkling item on the ground that can be picked up by the hunter. Their 'Secret Pouch' serves as an account item. Melynx keep their items inside their pouch and send their stolen items in their village. Hunters use a Felvine to distract Melynx due to their attraction to these plants. When carrying it, Felvine is the first item to be stolen by Melynx. It should also be noted that it is possible to take back stolen items. When stolen the items will be moved to the Melynx's camp and placed there, should the camp be searched any stolen items will be effectively taken back.

They live in harmony with the lighter-toned species of Lynian, the Felynes. The Melynx and Felynes seem to be hostile towards the other Lynian Species, the Shakalaka, as they are never seen living in the same area together, though all three species live in the same environments.

ShakalakaUser Image

Nicknames: Shaka, Laka

Titles: None

Size: Small

Status Inflictions: Sleep/Poison

Weakness: None

Habitats: All

The Shakalaka are small humanoids who wear masks and carry a small sword while their leader the "King Shakalaka" carries a large club and has a larger mask. Shakalaka may hide in plain sight beneath fake mushroom disguises or, as seen in the Snowy Mountains hide under a fake piece of ice. In the Desert they camouflage under a fake cactus, distinguishable by a different texture and color, as in their other disguises.

Shakalaka should not be underestimated; they can easily take out an unsuspecting hunter with exceedingly quick attacks and inflictions of poison. They are rather clumsy when they attack, but may also be armed with Bounce Bombs and Sleep Bombs. They are known to sometimes drop fake, explosive treasure. Like the Felyne and Melynx, they will dig underground when defeated, leaving behind their masks, which can then be carved. There are no information on the face of a Shakalaka because they always quickly dig underground when hurt too much. Their intelligence allows them to live in a multitude of environments.

King ShakalakaUser Image

Nicknames: Shaka, Shakadrome

Titles: The Strange Masked Leader

Size: Medium

Status Inflictions: Sleep/Burn

Weakness: Ice

Habitats: Forest

The King Shakalaka are basically Shakalakas that wear a larger mask, have a club instead of a knife, are much larger than other Shakalaka, more powerful, and a spit on top of their masks. It is harder to kill compared to regular Shakalakas.

They are very strong, actually doing a large sum of damage, especially when with a large group of Shakalakas, making it difficult to hit. It now has a rage mode, in which its spit's fire gets larger and it fires small fireballs. Their masks can be carved for Shakalaka Treasure.
