Zhi rolled her eyes at Tàijiàn, tempted to speak up and reply to that, but.. She would rather ignore the man than anything. She couldn't help letting out a skeptical snort at him, though – really? If Ayil wanted independence, why was she with such a mother hen? She couldn't get some people – Zhi never went to any mothering sorts! Then again, she had Mao and Min-Ya to choose between and neither would actually fit that bill. “I can help you too.” She couldn't help keeping this one to herself with a flat tone and a stare back at the man's head propped on the couch's armrest. “Probably better.” She added more to herself before turning back to the blind landlady. “You sound like my sister.” She informed her honestly with that one, frowning in annoyance at the reminder. She wanted to call the woman pathetic for it, as she always had her own sibling, but she was still her landlady and capable of kicking her out! So, she held her tongue on that one.. for a short while.

Parents never 'want' a kid, they only get used to it. Be grateful that someone had picked you at all. They could have kicked you out and went on living without you.” Ah, she really wanted to kick herself sometimes – but, tact would have to come with age and experience, apparently.. Her words came out sharply, her small annoyance developing into a scowl, although the woman wouldn't be able to see it, only hear it. “And, no, I don't want to order people around. I was giving you advice, girl from girl, but if you want to make them out as 'orders', I don't care.” She huffed lightly at that – just because she was right didn't mean she had to make her out to be some controlling b***h! Her own accent, normally carefully hidden with practice, slowly got worse as she became more upset. At least it wasn't horribly noticeable, but she could tell and it made her self conscious. She looked to her leeches for a silent moment in thought, allowing herself to calm back into a better mood again.

Ayil nodded to Zus as she slowly began to think of her sister; her parents hadn't been the kindest of people, and she and Anya were very much planned, organized into her parents life. Ayil's lips took on an unseen smile, one of knowing and slight condescending manor, it was unlike her, yes, but this girl pretended to know the world, did she know the southern states of America, the life Anya and Ayil had been pushed into? How they had lived? How their mother had treated them, not to mention their father? Ayil's smile, smirk, maybe, had just the slightest tone of loathing, though her eyes were blind, they conveyed emotion very well, not that Ayil would know how her emotions mirrored into the green irises. "When you have walked blind for twenty years, being an accessory, you tell me if I should be grateful for being picked." Ayil said softly, she wasn't usually so quick to flare, usually calm and collected, but this seventeen year old girl was just getting under her skin all too well. "If, in fact, I was picked at all, if not chosen by default due to Anya's mistakes?" Ayil could already she and Zhi would end up clashing quite a bit. Ayil would never be told to be grateful for being forced into all the balls and pretty gowns that she could never see, not when she had been fine, at fourteen, with reading her books and dreaming of princes and happy ever afters. Ayil had been perfectly content with being out of the spotlight, being locked from sight. But Anya, the daughter the two von Wend's had planed to showcase to the world, had gotten pregnant, and Ayil filled her shoes perfectly, as a twin could. Ayil pushed the thoughts out of her mind, her parents were dead now and thinking ill of them would only bring ill to her, because that's how the world worked.

It should have already been made clear that Zhi had trouble keeping comments to herself, even when she didn't really want to. She did want this place and even if she wasn't very agreeable on what the other said, she still didn't want to – “What? That long?” Oh, too late. The little common sense in Zhi was already sighing and shaking his little head as the girl rolled her eyes at the woman. It probably helped her a little that Ayil couldn't see her raised eyebrow and amusement. Not by much, but still it was something to be mildly grateful for. “Being default is better than not being anything, isn't it? If you really didn't like that, you didn't have to stay.” She frowned and crossed her arms, raising her head proudly as she went on, “I left home when I was almost fifteen and it took you five extra years to do it yourself? You're not even doing it yourself! You still have your sister checking up on you and some creepy guy babysitting you! How is that independence? She waved a hand towards Tàijiàn as she mentioned him, huffing at the end and sinking back into the couch in exasperation. Now, she was annoyed and probably out of a home.. She was already wondering if there wasn't somewhere else she could go instead of back to Mao. The man was probably waiting at the door for her to come back! Greeaat.

Ayil's annoyance was rising, if not the dislike of being challenged by a seventeen year old girl. "Tell me, Zhi, are you blind?" Ayil asked, but didn't wait for an answer, "Are you from the southern states? Are you from a prestigious family that will forgive no mistakes?" Ayil asked, but it was more a snap than an actual question. "My parents barely let me bathe alone till they died just two days before my most recent birthday; setting me free. And.." Ayil said, standing, her voice and sanity teetering on a fine edge of restraint to not fall over, "At least I have people who care enough to check in. Zus is a tenant, like you, but he hasn't yet angered the one person who can toss him out." Ayil snapped, finding her way out of the living room by the tiny pieces of paper and down the hall, and to her own bedroom, leaving the door open and pulling a book from the shelf to read. Ayil didn't remember ever being that judgmental at seventeen- or ever for that matter. And Zus did not babysit her!!

Zhi had opened her mouth to reply to the snaps, rearing back up easily enough when she heard annoyance in the other's voice. But, all she was able to utter was the beginnings of words, before she was cut off with snaps. She gave up after the second attempt and scowled at the woman as she stood up to, as Zhi had seen it, run away from the argument. Someone else (Mao) would have probably been determined to get the last word in, but Zhi didn't care much for that as the woman left. Well, not care enough for her to chase her down and make sure she heard it. She pursed her lips and looked to her tank, watching the little black creatures wiggle their way around the water. “No, he's sleeping with her instead.” She mumbled irritatedly in Mandarin Chinese, her dialect switching back to it's origins in her exasperation.

It wasn't like Ayil knew her! (Though the same could be said about Zhi..) How could she even guess that she had it worse because of some stupid blindness? Zhi's parents were strict! They weren't prestigious, but that didn't make them not show offs! ..Of course, Zhi had no clue what she meant by 'southern states'.. Probably blame the crap education and negligence during this year on that one. But, all that was easy to push off with a quick assurance and some mumbles to herself in her own language. What wasn't was that last comment tossed back at her. Zhi had people who cared about her! Min-Ya did.. somewhat. Okay, no, she just wanted to get back at her brother. ...Her mother – no.. Father? She doubted it. Sister..? Would she even remember Zhi? ..Mao! ..No, wait, Mao didn't care about anything. Alanis was using her, her teacher was just that – her teacher, Una was a sort of friend who didn't count, and.. Er. This was all.. bugging her. Too much.

She frowned and after a second of silence, she stood up and marched to the kitchen to grab the phone. She dialed it quickly and held the phone to her ear until someone answered – or at least a machine. Into which, she said quickly and sternly, “Elliot! Come over to my place now as fast as you can. If you don't, I'll be very mad!” ..Of course she knew the Park family house number by now! She gave the address speedily afterward and then hung up the phone with a pout. Now, she waited irritatedly in the kitchen for her friend to arrive, all while thinking of what she would do if she didn't.

Luckily for Zhi, Elliot had practically been waiting by the phone. Not deliberately, of course, but she had been helping River clean the kitchen after practically destroying it (They were hungry! And tired of take-out.) and so when the phone rang she picked it up right away. She had been surprised that Zhi had invited her over, since she never did that. Sure, she called, but if they met, it had always been at school or at the Park house! She couldn't help but feel mildly excited, while River was through the roof.

She had gotten to the address provided surprisingly fast (small girls move quickly?) and she took the time to stare up at the house. Wow. It was big. And pretty! How come Zhi never invited her over before, if her house was this nice? She tentatively made her way up to the porch and knocked lightly on the front door. She had never gone over to a friend's house before. Why was she so nervous?

If Zhi hadn't been listening for it, she would have probably missed the knock. Thankfully, that wasn't the case as she cut her sulking and brooding short to head back across the living room and to the front door. She paused to glance at Tàijiàn, still laying out on the couch like some lazy-a**. She rolled her eyes at him and finished her way to the door, opening it to see a familiar redhead standing there. At least this crimson haired girl wasn't an annoying b***h who assumed things about people! ..Ah, the hypocrite in Zhi really needed to keep it's mouth shut, not that it would until, well, Zhi herself acknowledged it existed. Blame youth on that ignorance. “Hey.” She greeted after examining her, opening the door wider to let Elliot walk in, “It was really nice of you to visit, my friend!” He had turned her head towards the back of the house as she said that and went on, loud enough for the blind girl in the back to overhear, “I guess you care enough about me to come over, huh?!” She looked back at Elliot with the question, smug in expression. Ha! She so had people who cared about her~ Elliot did! ..Right? Yes, of course she did.. Her and River, but she couldn't drag her would-be-lover into a petty fight like this. Elliot was fine to do that to, though.

Elliot had managed to zone out in the thirty-odd seconds that had passed between the time she knocked and the moment Zhi opened the door. Something about porches, they distracted her beyond belief. So when Zhi opened the door and addressed her, the smaller girl leapt out of her skin. Or, at least, that was what she would have done if she ever reacted at anything. Instead, her eyes got really wide and she stared up at her friend in surprise. "Uhm, no problem... You never invite me over, River was surprised," she replied neutrally. Elliot was displaying her emotions vicariously through River, as usual. "I like your house. It's big, and... uh..." she took a step back to see the color of the house. "...blue. She gave Zhi a tiny smile before glancing over her shoulder into the house. It looked like there were other people there! But didn't Zhi only mention an uncle?

Ayil, being who she was, could never stay angry fro long, and had only been seconds away from apologizing- right up until Zhi answered the door and threw back those words. "For starters, its my house, her room is upstairs." Ayil snapped, her voice calling from her room, "Feel free to help her with her suitcases." Ayil's anger had emerged once again; how could this girl just prod and prod and push and push? Ayil was unnaturally kind, she never judged, she was never cruel; she was close to being a saint, even. But Zhi mirrored Anya; and Anya got under Ayil's skin more than anyone. Ayil and Anya had habits to fight, possibly more than regular siblings since Anya could be extremely cruel. Either way, Zhi was close to Anya in comparison- hopefully the two never met and ganged up against Ayil. Ayil's fingers had been on the same word for a couple of minutes now, a clock chimed, five in the afternoon, on the dot. Ayil had half a mind to ask the new girl... Elliot, Zhi had said on the phone? If the house really was.. blue? What kind of blue? Blue like water?

That smugness evaporated easily enough into some dumb, happy expression at the sound of River's name. Zhi gave a giggle and leaned a little more of her wait on one side of the door. “River was?” She asked pretty unnecessarily, standing quiet for a second in thought. Oh, she should have just invited her kinda fiance over! It would have been so much better to shove into Ayil's face! Almost Fiance's were the best when it came to caring for someone, right?! She bet Ayil didn't have a fiance! Just some creepy sort of boyfriend. But, Zhi had only just moved in and it wouldn't be the best to call River in for something as small as this, so.. She would handle it with Elliot. She pushed herself from the door and nodded, moving back into regular-Zhi mode.

Thank you, but it's –” She started to reply with an explanation when Ayil's voice cut through instead. She pursed her lips and glanced over her shoulder in the woman's direction. Who interrupts like that, huh?! How rude! “Yes, I'm renting a room with a blind girl.” She lowered her voice dramatically as she informed the other, leaning in to cover one side of her mouth a hand to shield from any lip-readers. She nodded and started to straighten up until she caught that small smile. ...What? Since when did Elliot do facial expressions? She raised an eyebrow and pinched each side of Elliot's cheeks before it completely vanished, studying her for a second before letting go. “It's scary when you do that.” She decided with a step back and a tug at Elliot's arm to get her inside, “The landlady is right. You can help me with the luggage.” She added with a point to the few bags left at the doorstep where Elliot was standing. She didn't make a move to take any, though, instead dropping the girl's arm and heading to her tank of babies~

Oh? So this wasn't Zhi's house? Then what was she doing there? Elliot would have frowned if her face muscles were strong enough (they had gotten weak over the long, blank years). That didn't make sense. Why wasn't Zhi living with her uncle? Had she gotten kicked out? But, being the incredibly passive person she was, she didn't say a word. She could ask later, if she really wanted to know. Or maybe Zhi would just tell her anyway.

Just to add to her confusion, the mysterious voice was blind? Elliot had never seen a real blind person before! She was definitely curious, but she had manners, so she would just hope that they crossed paths at some point.

She wouldn't have had long to indulge in her curiosity anyway, because soon Zhi grabbed her cheek. "Ow," she squeaked, barely audible. When her friend let go, she rubbed her sore cheeks lightly. How mean! "Sorry," she replied plainly. Her large brown eyes moved over to the bags next to her. So she had just moved in! How nice it was of her to invite her over to help her move! Elliot smiled again (but by this point Zhi had turned away, so it was safe) and went to pick up as many bags as she could carry... Eesh, they were heavy. The small girl let most of them slip from her grasp and focused on just carrying one.

Before she picked up the tank, she looked at the redhead oddly for apologizing. Really, what was she saying 'sorry' for? “It will look better if you practice it.” She told her as Zhi carefully took the tank in hand and lifted it. She could only be grateful for keeping up with an exercise routine after she left her parent's place and the chores there – she wouldn't be able to lift the tank at all if not for that! She could have gotten a bundle of plastic bags and carried them in one by one like that, but she didn't trust them not to leak.. So, she had to take the tank as it was! Zhi looked over her shoulder at Elliot and said in a slightly strained voice due to the exertion,

Follow me upstairs – ah?” She frowned as she noted that Elliot only had one bag in her hands. Lazy! “Is that all you can carry? You're coming back down for the rest.” Here was Zhi carrying a whole tank of water and Elliot could only handle one duffel?! Sure, they were all stuffed with Zhi's clothing and everything, but she didn't think the girl was so weak! ..Zhi often forgot that not everyone had the muscle-building time that she had herself. Oh, well, it wasn't like anyone was going to point it out. Without much will to waste time speaking, Zhi had hurried over to the stairs with the tank in hand and started up it as slowly as can be for fear of dropping it. After a tedious journey up the steps, she set it down as gently as she could and dropped herself next to it, breathing hard while she rested. Ah, she wished tanks weren't so heavy..

Ayil rolled her eyes, she'd feel guilty later, she'd apologize later, but right now she just didn't have it in her. She closed the book rather gently and felt for where it belonged and tried to push it into place- and failed. It fell to the ground with a very large thudding sound. Ayil got down on her knees in such a rush that she hit her head, just above her ear but not her temple, against her dead. After feeling around for the book she hugged it to her chest as she rose. Her door was almost exactly across from the stairs, the stairs behind the living room. Between Ayil's room and the kitchen was a small bathroom. Ayil tried a second time to put the book in place, and managed well enough, it stuck in an inch more than all the other books. Ayil couldn't read when Zhi's voice was pushing itself into her ears like a miniature cheese grater. Where was Zus? Ayil entered the hallway, also serving as the foyer, and stuck to the wall across from her bedroom till she came to the large archway that lead into the living room. She might not be too keen onto Zhi, but she didn't want to get in the way, or make one of the two females drop something breakable- Ayil probably wouldn't ever forgive herself, depending on Zhi's reaction.... Ayil's hands felt around, almost knocking over a framed picture of her family off a table.

Elliot wondered if she should try to grapple with one more bag, but she had a feel Zhi would only scold her more if she dropped it. She didn't know what was in the bags, nor did she care to know, but... Better not to risk it. She struggled with the one bag she did have (she had failed PE for a reason!) and hurried into the house. It was nicely decorated on the inside, too. How lucky Zhi was, being able to live in such a nice old house~ She had just stepped up onto the first step of the stairs when something caught her attention and she turned around. A woman was standing there! Was she the blind one? Probably. Elliot had never seen a blind person before, so how was she supposed to know? She looked at Ayil curiously; weren't blind people supposed to have canes? So they didn't flail around wildly trying to feel their way with their hands? She stared at the older girl for a while before speaking softly. "Dogs are nice. You can teach them to do lots of things." That was Elliot's way of suggesting that Ayil get a seeing-eye dog to help her around the house. She was quiet for one more moment before dragging the bag all the way up the stairs, to the top, where Zhi sat. "Are you okay? That's a big tank." What was in there? Slugs or something?

Zhi looked down the stairs through the bars on the railing to watch Ayil from above, floundering around like some blind, helpless – oh, wait. That was what she was, wasn't it? She rolled her eyes and opened her mouth to shout something at the girl or at least alert Tàijiàn that the woman was going to break her leg and look even worse if he didn't help her, but Elliot had paused. She watched the redhead curiously, one hand holding her head up. Was she going to help her..? ..No.. No, she wasn't. She said something weird and then went upstairs to Zhi. The girl shrugged and waited for the other to climb the stairs before saying anything. She had already recuperated when she was reached, so Elliot's question only got a nod. “Yes.” She stood up again and, with a short stretch, leaned over to pick up the tank once again with a soft grunt. She glanced between the rooms for a brief moment before choosing the right room, nudging the door open with her foot to get inside. At least the trip from the top of the stairs to inside the room was much shorter~! She found a table with easy to slide it on top of. She let out a breath in relief and sat down on the bed, bare of covers, sheets, and pillows as those were all to be bought at a later time. For now, she would survive with the small blanket she had stuffed in one of the bags and.. probably stealing a pillow off of the couch downstairs. How would Ayil know the difference, anyway~? “It's a nice room, yes?” She said to the redhead with a look around, expecting the girl to be in the doorway if not already inside the room.
