This is a private roleplay between Sakngea [audio fiend] and Sarangerel [Oooka]

Setting

The forest.

Chapter one in the Epic Saknara Saga.
Sara comes to aid a stranger...

Stupid little girl...
PostPosted: Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:25 pm

The forest, it might not be the safest place to travel however Sara needed to come here. Lunaria was a beautiful place however it was never really quiet, not like her home village. Here there were always lights, always noise from the mass amount of people. It was hard to find a peaceful place and this seemed to be her best bet. Plus Lunaria was proving to be far less dangerous that she first guessed. She has only seen the good part and this might have caused her to think Hua was taking things out of proportion? She felt like she was in no danger... from people at least.

Everyone had been so kind to her... it did not feel like a war was raging.

The long haired Mongolian girl looked at all the tall trees and her ears picked up the pleasant flowing sound of nearby water. This place was so wonderful she wondered why she did not think to come sooner. The bird song echoed through the corridors of plant-life, just the way nature intended it. She had always felt a close bond to the earth and all the animals which inhabited it. She spent so much time outside as a child; she missed those days at times. Everything seemed much more complicated now.

A gentle breeze ran through her long hair, making it fly off to the side. Then after a while her pale eyes caught sight of movement. She froze and hid behind a tree; she did not want any trouble and saw it in her best interest to stay down, just until she knew there was no threat to her. Unbeknownst to the young Mongolian girl she would soon be running to the aid of a injured Lunarian by the name on Sakngea...

A name she would come to know very well...

"s**t," the words slipped from between tight lips as Sakn attempted to stop the blood that was oozing from a gash on his side. The wound did not specifically hurt any more; the skin numbed from over-exposure to pain helped quiet a bit. But it was still bleeding, and Sakn was not foolish enough to think that unless he stitched it up he would survive the night, or come out of it without infection at least.

Along with the wound on his side, Sakn was marked with cuts and bruises all over, from a split lip to his bruised and bloodied knuckles. But even though it was evident he had not come out of the fight unhurt, the redhead liked to think he was off better then the legion dogs who he had confronted. Of course, being alive and bruised was always better then ******** bastards," the redhead ground out as he tried to awkwardly take a bone needle and stitch himself up. It was annoying, since he had to twist himself to properly see the wound, but doing so caused it to open more and allow a new stream of blood to slide down his side, staining his tattered and already-bloodied kameez.

He tried a couple more times to get the wound stitched, but as the sun burned across the sky, it became evident to the redhead that he wouldn't be able to this himself, and so with an angry, tired cry, the noble chucked the needle and thread onto the grass in front of him and pressed his back against the rock he had stopped at.

"Hyun?" he spoke out loud, calling to his master who resided in the freshly-cleaned chinese dao at his hip, but felt no tingle of response, no voice curling through his mind. Sakn frowned and shivered as a cool wind blew through the forest. It was still winter, though not frozen today, and the snow was only in patches, with green already peeking through.

It was strange, the feeling of aloneness in his mind. Earlier Hyun had been wild, loud and boisterous in his mind, cawing with laughter as he mowed down the legion men. And yet now, silence. The redhead shuddered again as his wound pulsed. His fingers felt numb, his eyes tired. Maybe a nap would help him.

Sakngea just closed his eyes, his body slowly slipping into a motionless sleep, when there was the sound of a branch snapping, breaking the natural silence around him, Green eyes snapped open, darting to the left then to the right, hand instinctively grabbing for his sword.

"Who's there?" he called in a tight, tired tone. Hopefully it wouldn't be another legion group. Sakn wasn't sure he was up to fighting yet, not with these wounds.

He was armed, she saw him reach for it... she knew that a trained swordsman could strike in seconds she had seen it and was not willing to give him that chance.

Sara cradled the tree for comfort. The motion the man had made towards his weapon made her feel very uneasy. She backed up slightly and shook her head before slowly creeping around the tree, however for now she was keeping her distance. She did not trust him, especially because he was armed. Still glued to the tree she looked at him to see the mass amount of blood which he was covered in. Maybe, just maybe he was scared too.... she knew she would be if she was in such a condition. Maybe he was desperate enough to listen to reason.

“Your hurt...” She mumbled, stating the obvious. It seemed to be a talent of hers, especially lately. She instinctively felt like she had to help him, this is what she has been trained to do and she was sure that the man would get seriously ill or worse if he did not revive some kind of medical attention, even though she could only offer limited amounts of it. “... I... I will help you... b-but not whilst you are armed.” Came her nervous voice, she was willing to lend a hand however not when there was such a huge risk to her own life. She was scared.... but she told herself she needed to be brave for his sake.

Her green eyes scanned him over. By the looks of it most of the damage was done on his side, his constant messing had already rubbed and messed up the wound, it needed cleaning and closing. She had to admit, she had never been faced with such a challenge but she knew he needed help and she would not be able to forgive herself if she just left him here to his fate. “... you need help, please y-you are just going to have to trust me. I- am not armed.” She tried to explain.

... what happened to the poor man?

She braved a foot forward; he hands raised by her shoulder to show she had nothing with her. She was prepared to bolt like a rabbit if need be. She was no athlete but she had a few ticks up her sleeve... her body was shaking... be brave Sara...

When he saw her moving behind the trees, his hand clenched tighter to his sword. Who was it there, shifting behind those leaves? His eyes glared into the shadows of the day, but the look of distrust became more of a irritated look as the person revealed herself.

A young woman, scrawny and shaking like a wind-blown leaf. She clutched the tree like a lifeline, and her voice was soft, lilting. Nervous. Sakn could almost taste the fear emanating from her, and if he wasn't so tired and blood-drained, he would have let a wicked smile curl on his face. But instead he only scowled, watching her watch him.

"You're hurt..." she stated softly, almost too quiet for him to hear. But he did hear, and the redhead rolled his eyes. How obvious was it? Was it the pool of blood or the bruises or maybe the exhaustion etched into his face. Maybe the paleness of his skin? Either way, the statement was moot.

She paused for another moment, and he watched her eyes trail down to his sword, then his wound, then back to his face. He waited, unsure what she would say next, and when she offered to help, he became skeptical. When she told him to get rid of his sword, his scowl intensified. He would not give Hyun up, not for any help from a shaking girl.

Let her help, sweet. She is a conduit, and I would prefer you living come the night. Can't let my apprentice die, now can I?

The words startled Sakn, who had not expected invoice from his master, but her words were always true to him, and when the girl stepped forward, hands raised like a white flag, Sakn loosened his face, allowing himself to relax ever so slightly.

His weapon hissed as he slid it from it's sheath, and for a moment, the redhead looked ready to swing it at the young, booted girl, but instead he stabbed it into the ground beside him and eyed the young woman. Sakngea, on principal, never asked for help, so it was hard to condone her help. So he stared for a bit longer, then awkwardly turned himself, offering for her to look at his wounds, though never specifically asking her to.

In his mind, he really didn't need her help.

"...I don't bite," he added as an afterthought when she only continued to stare. "So don't stand there like some frightened rabbit," his words were sharp, gruff and to the point. He just wanted this done with.

Sara stepped back a little as he pulled his blade out of its holder, breathing a large sigh of relief when he plunged it into the earth; better the dirt than her own flesh. She remained still for a few seconds longer, not knowing how to break the awkward silence which lingered on. For now he seemed like he was co-operating which was good, she was not willing to compromise at the present time. Even though she wanted to help him she was still on guard to make sure he did not try anything funny. She wanted to believe the best in people however this man gave off a somewhat frightening aura, she did not know if it was his weapon, his body structure of his posture but something just felt wrong. For now she tried to ignore it and carry on with her duty.

She snapped out of it when he called over to her once more. He seemed to be telling her to get on with it, a little rudely but it seemed to pass over her head without much notice. He said she had no reason to be worried and for now all she could do was trust him, after all it appeared like he trusted her. He would have not disarmed himself otherwise. She nodded her head and then walked over in his direction remaining silent for the most part. As she got closer she noticed a little glimmer in the grass, she kneeled down and picked up the needle from the ground, thread still attached. She did not have much to work with and she knew she could not fully heal him out here, but she was sure she could get him in a fit enough state to return to the city and get himself healed properly.

“Okay you are going to have to lay on your side for me, first priority is to get that wound sealed to stop any more damage, and then I will work on your less serious injuries. I am going to need to clean you up first, if I go and wet some rags at the river will you be able to make a small fire so I can sterilize the needle? I will only be a few seconds.” She nodded her head, she was shy when socializing however this was far from a social interaction so the words seemed to come more freely because she knew what she was talking about. Her pale eyes looked up at the man, her heart racing in her chest. She wanted to explain what she was going at all times, it might help relax him and that is the state she needed him in. A small smile came onto her face in an attempt to make him feel better. “M- my name is Sara. Don’t worry. I will fix you up in no time...” She added with a small respectful bow of her head.

Sakn watched the girl carefully as she moved forward. He may have set his blade aside, but he was far from truly trusting. He watched her hands first, waiting for the tell-talk flick that indicated a hidden knife or dagger; then her eyes, to see if perhaps there was ill-will there. But nothing seemingly stood out, just a timid peasant girl.

Sakn assumed, that since she lacked the bitter edge of a Legion member, she was Noble, so there was no boiling hate for her because of that.

He still didn't trust her totally, though, and when she bent down, his body stiffened. What could she be grabbi--the redheads muscles loosened as she stood back up with the needle he had tossed earlier in hand. She looked worried for a moment, unsure of something, but then the resolve was back, and Sakngea almost smiled at her dedication.

Almost, but not.

When she spoke next, the young man bristled at her, disliking people telling him what to do, but figured it would be stupid to argue(and he was tired, dizzy and just wanted to sleep), and instead nodded and tried to dodge her pale eyes. There was something about them that made him nervous, edgy. Like something bad was going to happen.

Sakn did see her smile though, and grunted in a nearly-friendly way before standing slowly. His body groaned at having to move, but he needed to go grab a few branches, nothing much, and start the damn fire.

Then she introduced herself. Sara. The redhead frowned at her. Introductions made this personal. He had no time for personal. So the redhead refused to respond, his face rigid and serious. "I'll go grab the wood," Sakngea said instead, before slowly moving off towards a pile of deadwood he had seen earlier, leaving the girl, Sara, to do what she needed to.

The blood was warm on his side, but the flow was much slower now, and as Sakn hefted one more piece of wood onto the pile in his arms, he felt glad to know that was at least getting better. He then turned back towards his rock, and set the small branches in a pile and pulled a flint rock from his pouch to light it.

The fire was crackling happily for quiet a few minutes by the time Sakn heard Sara arriving again. It's heat was suffocating in the daytime, and the redhead sat rather far away, his eyes drifting off towards the sky, as if deep in thought.

"You walk loudly, you'll never be able to hide if you are so loud," he droned as the sounds of foot steps and breathing came closer.

Sara did not know how to respond when he did not introduce himself, it was the first time she had encountered such a quirk and it made her smile slightly. She shook her head wondering why the people of Lunaria were so secretive. It did not matter, maybe he would loosen up a little after she got started and if he did not then it was just something she would have to live with not knowing. She was never one to pry and way too timid to ask the same question twice or rise up a fuss about it. He stated that he was going to get some wood.

“Understood.” She nodded her head, the comment coming over very military like, the lack of knowledge about the other party did indeed make this feel more like a mission than human interaction and maybe that is what was making it easier. He was a patient and nothing more, there was no need to feel awkward and shy because he was not trying to be friendly. It was a business transaction, one that Sara was more than willing to for fill. She had her heart set on being a healer and due to the war and all the injuries occurring every day she knew that there would always be someone who needed her help. She might have not healed many people however each time was a huge confidence boost and learning curve.

She quickly made her way into the forest following the sound of the river. It was not long before she got to the flowing stream, her green eyes scanning the waters shiny reflection. Kneeling down by the bank she lowered her hand into the cool liquid and raised it to her mouth, tasting it she did not taste any signs of dirt so she trusted it would be safe to clean his wound with. River water never bothered her, if it was god enough for her horses to drink then it was good enough for her. She thought for a moment, wondering what she could use as cloth. She blinked and looked at her sleeve, giving it a good tug, she soon realized how weak she actually was, she could not even defeat stitching.

Then she realized there was an easier option, she took the pin and red band off of her hat and tucked it into her orange belt, lowing the fuzzy white fabric into the water it soon took in water and was soaked through. She got up and started to head back in the direction in which she had left the red head. As she approached she heard his comment, making her let out a nervous chuckle. “I guess you’re right, I have just never needed to be sneaky and prey that I never have to hide from somebody...” She stated with a firm nod, it might not make any sense however even Sara admitted she was clueless when it came to the art of stealth and battle.

“Please can you lie on your side, I will stitch that up right away...” She knelled down nearby, her wet hat in her hand. “Any medical supplies you have will be useful...” She added, in hope he might have some bandages... if not she was going to have to use her white under robe.

Sakn eyed her with a bored, lazy stare as Sara sat down near him, eyes trailing down to the wet rag then up to her un-banded hair. She was very pretty, and had an honest face, and at any other time, he may have spoken with her. But now the redhead just looked her over one more time before processing her words with a grimace. Did he look like he had supplies? He would have fixed himself up if he had everything he needed.

The redhead grunted in frustation, before pulling his own shirt off and easily tearing strips off the bottom. The fabric was tough, cottony and thick, but it torn like paper between his calloused hands, and would work well for bandaging. He ripped up several pieces and handed them to Sara in a near childish manner, his deep green eyes never meeting hers.

"...Here," Sakn added as a afterthought, before carefully laying on his good side, his skin prickling as the coolness of the day tickled his bare skin, and the dirt bit and prodded his side as he lay. But the coolness relaxed him, and calmed the burning in his wound. "I don't got anything else, so just stitch it up, and do it quickly," he didn't want to poked and prodded for a long time. He just wanted to be fixed up so he could sleep, and when he woke, he would find another Legion group to fight, and another and another. Until all of them were gone.

As he he laid there, the redhead let his eyes glance at Sara once again, and he held back a question that burned his tongue. Maybe he would ask her after she had helped him, just to know....
PostPosted: Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:16 pm

Sara held the fabric in her hands with a small smile. She wondered around his back when he lay down, looking at what she had to do here. Sure he made he look weak, his material was much tougher than hers and she could not even get it to make a straining noise. Fortunately for her he did not see her little fail attempt down at the stream. A small blush came onto her face once more; she had worked on arms before... this was different. I guess she never realized how intimate treatment could be. She would be lying if she said she did not find the half naked man laid out in front of her attractive. She shook her head and focused on gaining back her game face. Come back to planet Earth.

Her blush faded as he told her to hurry up. She did not mind him being so bossy and rude, it did not register he was being so, as always her rose tinted vision just made him quirky to her. She dabbed his wound softly with the cloth, taking a better look at the damage done to him. “If it hurts just say so...” She smiled, it might seem stupid however it just kind of came out; of cause he would be able to handle it. It was just still strange to her that people in Lunaria were warriors... they were used to pain. How sad. Soon enough the wound was clean and she rested the now pink hat down to the side.

She leaned over to hold the needle over the fire, her long hair falling over her shoulder. Soon the metal went red. Her green eyes went back to the wound, when the metal cooled she threaded it once more, her sleeves also gaining a nice taint of red due to working on him. Soon she started to stitch the wound together with great care, every so often looking at his expression to make sure he was okay. She was stuck on what to say to him and felt like he would not want her to talk. He seemed to have a very private and solitary personality.

She could not relate to what he was going through, she did not handle pain very well and was terrified of fighting. He was obviously a lot stronger than she was, then again that were few who were not. He had lost a lot of blood and even though the wound was getting smaller with every p***k of her needle she knew he would be getting faint. It was funny how artificial this felt, she was working with live flesh like it was a ripped doll. It really did hit her, what mortality really was. “I guess this means a trip to the Ichi-Koi. It must have been a hard day for you!” She nodded, hoping to lighten the mood. She was almost done with this wound at least!

Sakn was no new comer to stitches and wounds; even before the war or Hyun, he had dealt with injuries of the very painful variety. After the first few times getting stitched up, things just go numb. The redhead only grunted to her little comment on pain, though it wasn't clear if the grunt was to her or just a grunt in general.

The fire flickered lazily as she stitched him, and Sakn felt his eyes drooping as he watched the red consume the blackened twigs and branches; the occasional pop of a wet spot, the tumble of embers in the air. It was relaxing, and Sara's hands were delicate, precise and steady. She seemed certain, even if her voice spoke otherwise, and that was reassuring to the redhead as he drifted in and out of awareness as she worked.

A certain prod jerked him back violently, and a snarl curled at his lips, edged on by sudden surprise and exhaustion, but the anger never escaped, as Sara paused and carefully tried again. His body unwound, and green eyes drifted back to the fire. Soon it became all he focused on, opening his eyes every few seconds to see it's warmth before drifting off...

Her voice broke the peace, and Sakn blinked rapidly, body tensing again as he tried to remember where he was, who he was near. Then through the fog of unconciousness, he remembered and his confused face twisted into a partial scowl. The Ichi-Koi was a bitter reminder of the fight he lost to Jianyu only a few days before. A bitter reminder that had fueled his rampage today in the woods, causing him this nasty injury.

"I think not. I am fine here, and tired. I lost a lot of blood," it was probably the most social thing Sakngea had said all this time to the girl, though it seemed that was all he would say on the subject, already he was gazing back at the fire, though his face was tight now; eyes deep in thought.

After a moment, he sighed and carefully pushed himself up and looked at Sara. "I have nothing to give you for your services but my thanks. You don't have to stay any longer. I will rest here and leave tomorrow."

It was an awkward thanks, but his nod was genuine, if not tired, and he sincerely hoped the girl would leave. He wanted nothing more then to sleep now, and didn't need a wetnurse for when he woke. He would be fine on his own. Or so Sakn liked to think to himself.

Sara finished stitching up the wound, looking down at the blood which covered them both a sense of pride came over her, she did it. She felt like she was improving and she could not help but smile. She felt like she had done a good thing and was finally living up to the expectations her teachers had of her. After all it was her duty to heal and she had helped the process. Now the physical side of the ritual was over and his body was one again sealed she could top it off with magic. Even if she could only help a little that was one little step closer to the man regaining his health. Her green eyes looked over at him once last time as he spoke. She could leave now however she would do so making sure she did all she could, even if it made her vulnerable for the next few hours.

“... I can help with the pain. All you can do is rest but do not worry, you will make a full recovery. I promise.” She whispered as she moved her hand to his head stroking through his hair, her other hand on his side over where she had been stitching. Sara closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. Her abilities always gave off a cold aura and as she began to let her own soul energy flow into him to speed up the healing process such an aura began to admit. She could not do much but her main focus was to help him relax and to help the pain flow away. She had never attempted a job this large and she knew it would require quite a lot of her energy however it would give him the best chance. The least she could do was help him rest peacefully, for when he was asleep there would be no more hurt and his body could get around to recovering.

She did not expect anything in return, she did not do what she did for her own personal benefit, she did it to make a difference and feel like she was doing her part in this damn war. No one deserved to die and she was unwilling to have blood on her hands, she could not live with herself if she let someone pass on when she could have stopped them. Besides the pleasure she got from her work was enough - She wondered if her family would be proud of her...

“I do not want anything from you, just get better for me and maybe if you gave me anything... maybe it would be your name, friend?”

Even though she had not known him long she had grown a fondness to this nameless secretive man. Even though something about him still irked her in those last sentences he spoke she felt he had a good heart and that was enough to justify her actions.

Sakn was not, in his recent months, used to gentle hands and kind words(besides those of Xiu, but that was another story within itself), so when Sara's words washed over him; her fingers combing his hair, his body stiffened as his heart skipped a beat. It was almost like he was home, young and childish again, resting his head in his arms as his mother cared for a bruise or bump he had received. The wave of emotion was near-crippling, and the redheads face twisted in a mockery of agony, eyes dead set on the dying fire before them.

When she focused on her energies, Sakngea felt the air shift around them. He was weakly trained, but Hyun helped to heighten his senses, and as Sara soothed the pain of his wound, the young man could feel the magic crawl across his skin, a soft tickling that itched up his side; spreading out from the wound. It was like being wrapped in a warm blanket, and while the redhead didn't truly wish to fall asleep, he could feel it threatening; lurking on the edges of his foggy sight.

The young healers words tickled Sakns senses, pulling him from the brink for a moment longer. He groaned and carefully moved, ignoring the young girls sounds of displeasure at his moving so soon; he just couldn't rest on his side, and it was easier to see the girl's face if he rested this way. Sakn rested his hands, laced together, on his chest gently, and stared at the pale-eyed girl before saying between a rather large yawn, "Jus' call me Sakn," his voice was warmer now, as sleep rolled over him, with a twang that hinted at his bumpkin upbringing.

There was silence then, and he stared at the sky until his eyesight faded, and as everything slipped away, he mumbled to the girl, "Bes' leave now, girl. Woods c'n be kinda dangr's, strangers 'n'all..."

Then sleep.

"Sleep well, Sakn."

She smiled to herself sitting up and taking in a deep breathe. She was tired herself she had used up quite a lot of her energy and even though it would be smart to follow his advise she did not want to help him. She was sure their would be no danger, for some strange reason she was reassured by the fact he was there. Even though he was weak and injured his presence offered her a seance of security. She wondered over to the fire, throwing on a few twigs around her onto it to keep it going, she might as well keep them both warm.

She wondered if Hua would be worried about her, it was just around midday and she was not meant to be home till evening so she was sure that she could get away with hanging around here for a few hours and then wake him up before nightfall. She smiled and closed her eyes, soon she found herself leaning forward a little falling asleep as she sat. It looks like our little healer was tired herself....
