I have one literal rival, and one friendly rival. My one real rival is a year younger then me, and this year I finally beat her in EVERYTHING. biggrin I beat her by .5 points in jazz ensemble auditions and got lead trumpet, I beat her by 6 points in wind ensemble auditions and got 2nd chair while she got 5th chair, and in counties, I got 16th (didn't make it by 4 points), and she placed dead last out of 40. But she's a kiss up so she gets to play first part during wind ensemble and I hate her for it, and when she's drum major she can kiss my a** as much as she wants but im not listening to her. I'm just glad I beat her in everything, I showed her whose boss, and when my braces come off that girl is going DOWN. Sorry, I get competitive lol. and I dislike her XD
The other rivalry is a fun one, we just challenge each other to improve skill, not to show each other whose boss.

Ugh, Colton is my rival since 6th grade... scream He's same grade and everything, but we're always competing each other. We're both in drumline, too. Except he's been playing drums since he was around 5. I started in 6th grade when I was around 12... The only thing different, was he's always played by himself because he assumes he's great. (He's really... arrogent, shall I say?) I've been workin' my butt off since Middle school, taking lessons, courses, tutoring, et cetera, even if I was the best in percussion, I'd still go on. Well, now he's got his skills up, and so do I, but he's always been right up there. He's always trying to out do me, which persay... isn't that bad, no? The old: "Keep your chin up!" "Strive to your goals!" "Carpe Diem!" But I just hate the competition and pressure. But of course, happy ending time!... I Always Win twisted Maybe, ya know, sometimes, just by a little... but hey! That's good enough for me, yes? 3nodding

My rival is three years older than me. I made Texas 5A all-state and he didn't, and I'm first chair right now at our school.

MezzoPianoX XxiAm_Fallen_AngelxX I play the bass Clarinet, and for the longest time, i thought I was the only one in my school, but some saxaphone player in the upper bands (I'm a freshman) plays the bass clarinet. I have a really long case, because my clarinet doesn't come apart in the middle, while his does. I asked my band teacher why I got the big heavy, wooden case, and he said that my clarinet plays better. The other bass clarinetist plays a different type of clarinet then mine, Mines a Bundy, and when mine broke, I used a back, same as his, (different clarinet though) and it sucked! Mine is so much better then his. My even as a stand so it can sit on the floor, his doesn't. We where walking to a room for contest, and he was walking behind me. I had my bass clarinet at my side, and I heard him say, "Awe... how come she get's a bass clarinet stand." That just made me feel speciel. I kind of don't know it we're rivals or not. The other day, he walked past me in the band room and said hi. DOn't really know what that means. next year, I will be in the same band class as him, and I will play the contra bass clarinet ( my teacher has four of them) so then i will be speciel, he can still play the bass, but I will play the contra bass, so... no more rival. Well, Playing contra bass doesnt really eliminate rivals.. there will be people from other schools trying out for all state and etc... Im playing contra alto this year, Im only one of the two contras...No real competition, but theres still something there. I'm only a freshman, and the only state stuff I'm exposed to is compititions. So far, i've only been to reginals, my group wasn't good enough for state. If I get good enough, I might want to join the Tacoma Youth Symphony. But, that's just a peddy dream so far. and at the last compitions, only one other person played bass clarinet. No contra. Heehee. I bet it would hurt to get hit with that thing....

In our flute section there's another girl named Emily (yes, unfortunately we have the same name) always thinks she's better than me. New flash, I've been playing flute for 2 more years than you have. I SHOULD BE FIRST CHAIR DAMNIT!

My only rival is myself.
Okay, that sounds cheesy, but it's true. Back in middle school I had a rival, but back then I was a trumpet player, such things just came naturally.

My rival is technically one chair ahead of my in clarinet, however it was a random choice. We compete and have fun daily, helping and improving each other as we work on our music techniques and skills.

All the underclassmen in my h.s band ^_^ (clarinet players) Not being mean or anything, but wow alot of freshmen and sophomores in band can play better than I can and I've been playing longer than them. They have the gift I suppose. 3nodding
