through the glass you see the same faces
hear the voices fade like a drum
When your life’s a [boat in a bottle]
you're surrounded,
drifting...a l o n e.
don't leave me now...
stay another day
with me?

Hatter so was not expecting Alice to scoot right into his arms. Though he was a little hesitant at first he gladly accepted her and loosely wrapped his arms around her. Very lightly. He remembered the first time she had ever spent any amount of time in his arms. It was the night he convinced her to stay. They slept in his bed and he held her exactly like this. A pain thudded in his chest as he lay there. He didn't know how much longer he could hold on to the stranger Alice. She needed to get better, for the sake of what was left of his shattered heart.
It was amazing how drastically his thoughts had changed from when she had asked. She listened to his thoughts and then told him her own. "Pain..." He muttered curiously to himself. He listened to her explain and he just grew more confused. "You are not to blame for my pain and what we consider normal you at one time found comforting."
He sighed and sort of scooted back a little. Away from the strange Alice. "You....are the reason half of this place isn't beheaded. You may not remember, but as far as our government is concerned you are second to only the Queen."
He sighed and rolled flat on his back. "You aren't causing me pain. I can get over it. Make the best out of the things I do have. When life gives you bitter tea....add a little sugar." He closed his eyes and started going over poems in his head. Small short ones he had picked up a while ago. It was to distract his mind from screaming at him. You liar, you can't get over this. You never will if you loose her.
