A WROCK DOWN MEMORY LANE
So I’ve been into the underground wizarding music scene for as long as I can remember. The first tape I got a hold of was ******** My Thestral’s debut album, Making Unicorns in the Bedroom, when I was eight or nine. They were more punk than metal in the beginning, and gave me a taste for the punk genre. I pestered my parents into letting me hunt down some more - at that point Raging Wands, Midnight on the Water, and Starcrossed Spellcaster were still around, those were some of my favorites.

I think my first Coversluts concert was at, like, thirteen. I’d been listening to them for a lot longer but because of my age, Georgie - owner of CBGB - refused to let me in to see any of their shows. I don’t remember anything except having my eye socket crushed in the mosh pit; Angelo - their drummer - stopped the show when he saw me go down, and I was so embarrassed I tried to say I was fine even though I was bleeding all over the place.

My parents were pissed, and I didn’t get a chance to sneak out again for a long ******** time. But I still collected all the records, tapes, and later Cds I could get my paws on. They had to charm my walls soundproof to get any sleep during the summer.

I remember when it all happened on WROCK street. When the street was thick with fans - all nose rings, towering mohawks, collars and huge boots - and Starcrossed Spellcaster would tear it up until dawn, right out on the sidewalk in front of CBGB. When Raging Wands got arrested in the middle of a show, and Aurors chased us home in the middle of a thunderstorm. When no one took a shower and drugs were a regular breakfast staple.

Those days are long gone, and we’ve crept back into our clubs and coffee bars, but the music is still screaming on til dawn.

Midnight on the Water [ rock, 1982 - 2007 ]
Founded as a rock band, Midnight on the Water stormed through the music scene in the 1980s, infamous for their waist-length black hair. They disbanded in 2007 due to the lead singer's health complications. <******** My Thestral [ metal, 1991 - 2003 ]
Popular in the 1990s, FMT performed with live thestrals on stage, controversial because the thestrals were often subjected to bludgeoning by the band’s lead singer, Markus Red. Their violent antics resulted in the death of the frontman in 2003, when Markus was ravaged by two bloodied thestrals, toppling back into a flaming barrel.

Raging Wands [ punk, 1993 - 1997 ]
Headed by a heavyset woman in her late thirties, Raging Wands lyrics ranted about the miseries of not getting laid. A loud public performance led to the arrest of the singer and drummer, who refused to stop playing despite having roused muggles and the repeated pleas of Aurors. The band has since retired.

Starcrossed Spellcaster [ punk, 1987 - 2005 ]
Famous because of its openly homosexual, black lead singer, Starcrossed Spellcaster performed in the late 80s until the death of three of its members in 2005, from an overdose of illegally obtained prescription potions.

Touching Rachel [ metal, 1993 - 2006 ]
Screaming their way through the 90s, Rachel Merit and her lovers - August Merit, her brother, and their shared girlfriend Diana Grass - became infamous in the underground for their blatant incest and related lyrics. In 2006 Rachel became pregnant and dropped the band, while August was arrested and imprisoned on incest charges. Diana and Rachel own a coffee shop catering to the scene.

The Raping Rapists [ punk, 1986 - 1998 ]
With twelve members, including four singers, the Raping Rapists were known for chaotic shows, traditionally ended by the band moving into the crowd to select fans for backstage shenanigans. They disbanded in the late 1990s due to unending squabbling between members.
