So I am super happy about my IUD. My insurance covers it.

I read on my child-free forum that most insurance does not cover it. People were talking about paying $500 and up total just to get it.

I walked into the pharmacy yesterday and picked mine up, along with the antibiotics to help fight infections after insertion and she was like "$10 PLZ."

I said, "Wow, that's it?"

"Yup. Were you expecting more?" She laughed

"Yeah. Some people I know who have had this talked about paying up to $500 for it."

She showed me the retail price on the prescriptionm and sure as ********, it was $498.

I PAID $5 FOR THAT.

$5 FOR NO BABIES FOR THE NEXT 12 YEARS. I'll be 42 when I'm finished with it. I'll probably get a tubal after that.

It's about time insurance companies realize it's cheaper to prevent pregnancy than to sustain it. Glad it worked out for you.

I don't have it in yet. Procedure is on Thursday morning.

It's sitting at home on my computer desk in a sterilized plastic/paper package.

I've been told various things by others that have it. From "WORST EVER" to "Eh." and "Uncomfortable."

Very true. I don't mind if insurance providers cover fertility treatments as long as they cover prevention too. A lot of the 'hardline' childfree people I talk to think it's insane and that people should adopt if they need in vitro and BLAH IT'S A CHOICE TO HAVE KIDS BLAH BLAH but I think it's alright as logn as BOTH choices are seen as valid.

It would seem as a lot of people who have/want kids think it's easy to get sterilized (it's hard as s**t if you're female) they seem to think adoption is an easy process.

Heh, I also like kids more than most of the people there. It's a moderate board, but some of the people there, children bother them so much I'd almost consider it a phobia. I seem to be the only one there that doesn't villainize teenagers, probably because of how active I am here.
