Setting

Exploring a new place and meeting a new face!
PostPosted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 4:49 pm

The Ichi-Koi bar was a new experience for the young Mongolian. However today she craved a cool drink after a hard days studying. She was used to being tired; her farm work back home really took it out of her however for some strange reason she had to admit that studying and working with her powers was much worse. Mental exhaustion was something much harder to cope with. No one told her this path would be easy but they also did not prepare her for this. Despite it all she knew that she would move forward. It was her only option and she had got this far!

“Please can I have one mango juice.” She nodded and smiled, making the exchange at the bar and then wondering over to sit at a table in the corner, somewhat isolating herself from the crowd; she was not with anyone however she did not mind. This was more of a mission of discovery, Lunaria was such a huge place and she was yet to see all of it. This was another tick off her list of places to go; being born and raised outside the city really did make everything a lot more impressive. It was so different from her small home village; she could not even compare the differences.

She took a drink out of her cup and brushed her long green stands of hair over her shoulder. She heard whispers; the mortal sounds became faint as the ghostly voices of those beyond started to enter her ears. She was used to this by now however at the same time she did not want to reply in case people noticed her. She liked to keep her abilities a secret, as much so as it was possible. You can imagine how talking to yourself alone in a bar might make you seem a little odd. “Please, I will talk to you tonight....” She whispered as the voices disappeared waking her up to normal chatter, lucky for her no one seemed to have noticed her little whisper.

She smiled and took another drink, unbeknownst to her whilst she was at the bar her pin had fallen from her hat and landed on the floor. Its Aztec like design made it obvious that it belonged to her, not to mention its colour theme matched the rest of her accessories.

Cais had never been in the Ichi-Koi before. He had a great dislike towards it due to certain patrons, but found himself there regardless of his normal biases. It had been a long days work and the weary Lunarian had walked a great distant for the sake of yet another delivery his father was too "busy" to make on his own. It had been that way for a while now and though Cais rarely complained to his father himself he felt the days after days of deliveries wearing down on his creative muse. On this day in particular he had been walking through the shops, staring into windows while he licked his dry lips and rubbed his parched throat. He needed something to drink and needed it fast.

That was where the Ichi-Koi had come in. He stared at the door for what seemed an eternity, eventually gaining the strength needed to enter the establishment. After a swift glance of the area he saw no sign of certain offending brown-haired men and shrugged, approaching the bar quickly. As the tender approached he squinted to read a worn menu near him. Nothing sounded appetizing. "Oh, I'll just have some water." He distinctly saw the bartender shrug and wander away.

A deep sigh rumbled up from his throat and he placed his weary head on the bar, staring at the ground. Was it rude to order only water when coming into such establishments? He was unsure of these customs... He felt the cup hit the bar and the bartender mutter about it being free before retreating back to actual paying customers. Cais refused to move as a glittering trinket had caught his eye. Bending down he stood, staring at the intricate pin. "Huh?" He reached the cup and took a sip, smiling as the coolness dribbled down his throat. Things were going good so far.

He handled it and looked back to where the bartender had been. He had moved out of sight and therefore useless for Cais to ask about the pin. Looking around the room he caught a colorful figure in the corner of his eye. The colors of the finely crafted pin matched the colors of the Lunarian girl perfectly. "If it's not hers I'll eat my own hat." he muttered, taking a hold of the cup and walking over to the table slowly.

Clearing his throat he moved to her side, holding the pin up awkwardly towards her. "Is this yours by any chance?"

Sara’s eyes darted over to look at the trinket which was hanging by her side looking quite confused. She slowly raised her hand to her head and patted her fluffy hat as if to feel for her own. A small bush came to her face as she stood up and bowed slightly. “I am so sorry, I should be more careful with my things...” She mumbled raising a nervous hand to take back the pin. She was so nervous around strangers it was really quite comical. Her tanned hands raised the item to her head and clipped it back into the red ribbon which was wrapped around it.

Her eyes went to look at the green haired Lunarian with appreciative eyes which were also scanning his appearance. He was small for a boy but she did not think of that in a bad way, everyone was shaped different after all. He was wearing mostly green and had orange eyes. He did not seem intimidating not from first glance and that was some comfort. When you were as shy as her it really helped when the person in your presence was someone that did not give off a threatening aura and despite the fact she usually tried to avoid strangers because of her own insecurities she felt in the debt of the boy.

“My name is Sara... t-thank you for returning my pin.” She nodded with another small bow. She let a small smile creep onto her lips, it was not fully forced however grateful she was it was hard to smile when you were nervous. She felt like she needed to repay him in some way however she did not really know how, so Sara did resort to the polite thing to do. “Would you like to join me for a drink? M-my treat.” She stuttered, she often talked with a small stammer, however people noticed the more she got on with the person the less she did so.

The girl seemed very timid to Cais, but he gladly handed the pin over. "No worries, things get lost all the time." He meant the statement to be reassuring, but wasn't sure how well it would do given her jittery nature. She seemed nice enough though, as he noted from her smile. He smiled back at her and nodded to her bow.

"Ah, your welcome. No worries though, really." He took her invitation by taking a seat at the table. He didn't mind taking the company. "Oh, I'm Cais. It's nice to meet you Sara." He looked at the pin again, admiring the intricate work. He blinked at the question. "My water is alright enough for me, but thank you for the offer." There was a stillness between them and he looked her over carefully. He hadn't seen her before, that was for sure. Cais did find her style intriguing, a refreshing style.

"Your pin is extremely intricate and wonderfully made. Might I ask where you got it?" His eyes were lit, he loved talking about art; accessories, pottery, paintwork, etc. - he loved the entire subject. He had a warm aura about him and took another sip of water, looking at her with a welcoming gaze. She had a sweet look to her, but how would she react to his forwardness? He felt himself blush and glance away at the thought of coming off too strong as usual. "Hmm."

“Maybe I will pay you back some other time then...” She smiled, she was not someone who kept tabs but if someone did her a kindness she always wanted to return it. She was okay if people did not repay her actions however she always felt like she was a burden if she did not. The thought of someone going out the way to do something nice for her filled her with joy however at the same time she really did not think herself worth the trouble.

“My pin? Oh, well....” She stated with a small blush looking down, her hands grasping hold of her clothing tightly by her knees. She guessed he would not understand her reaction or the fact he had just paid her a complement however she would explain. “I made it... it is a button that came off one of my other garments, a pebble, a tassel and three pretty beads that where lying around in a draw. I like to make jewellery out of random things that I think look pretty.... I thought it would look nice with my clothes.” She mumbled holding a hand up to her chest, her posture all indicated the fact she was very timid. He was just being so nice she was not used to it...

“Thank you, I never thought anyone would admire such a thing; however I am no master crafter...” She then explained shaking her head before tilting to it send him another gentle smile. For a moment she kind of drifted off into her own thoughts and said something that she did not entirely mean to. “I just like taking simple things and making them look pretty.” She added in a soft voice. What was one persons junk was another man’s treasure. Living on the farm they did not have much money so they made many of their own clothes out of things they could find. Sara always loved stitching in pretty patterns and attaching shiny pebbles. It was a girly hobby but one she enjoyed.

“Oh, I am sorry I must sound like such a vein person. Talking about clothes and accessories I hope I am not giving you the wrong impression! I mean I like things that look nice however I do not obsess over them and I can live without... haha.” She said awkwardly. She did not want to appear to be stuck up or anything, she had no money of her own and her family name was unknown to people in this village. She just did not want him to see her to be that kind of person, she might have been judging her words too harshly however she was always harsh on herself. Always paranoid about what others thought of her.

“.... D-do you have any hobbies like that?” She finally meeped decided the best thing would be to change topic and quick before he realised how much she was rambling!

"If you insist" Cais smiled at her, feeling the timid nature of the girl he made sure the smile was a kind one. He loved hearing her talk of her hobby, it reminded him of himself and his eyes seemed to sparkle as she continued on with her story of putting the piece together. After she had finished he finally spoke."You made it yourself? That's wonderful. I always enjoy artwork, but it's so much more rewarding when you do it yourself."

He took another sip of his drink and watched her. "It's not vain if it's what you enjoy. If that was the case, then all girls would be vain, not to mention me." He laughed a little. "Not with clothing though, but my passion as a glassblower." He blushed slightly trying to stifle it by holding his cup up to his lips. "That's my hobby. I love to take sand and form it into glass, then shape it and cut it to represent the emotions." He continued to blush, he wasn't used to opening up immediately to strangers, though he often found himself doing so.

Cais enjoyed to talk, though he hated feeling like he had hijacked a conversation. "I haven't seen you around the Academy before. Are you new?" He set the cup down, feeling his face return to number and looked back to her with kind eyes. Something about her relaxed him, even in the Ichi-Koi which he had often taken time out of his day just to avoid the establishment. But here with her he felt the anxiety leave him.

"I agree, we did not have theatres and bars like this were I grew up - instead we found fun in making things, my mother taught me how to use everything at your disposal nothing ever went to waste." Back at home they could not afford to waste anything or for that matter spend money on things that were not needed. Her mother had taught her how to do everything, make clothes, cook, raise animals and a basic understanding on reading and writing. On the farm she found entertainment whatever way she could, she would play with the animals, make art out of materials which were at her disposal even if it was by scratching in into the ground of on a tree, she would also do chores - maybe something that most people would not count as fun but when they involved sewing and riding horses it was enjoyable. Her upbringing had taught her you were at your best when you were working hard and to this day she believed in it. It was why she never complained when she was asked to do something even if she did not participially want to. She smiled and nodded as his words hit her ears."We are all a little vein deep down. It is not a bad thing I guess - it just means we are mortal. Maybe a person who can admit it is less vein than a person who denies their flaws. It is something to think about it." Sara could sit there and talk for hours about the ways she would like to change herself, she wished she was braver, she wished she was more confident but in the end change was harder than people thought. She had only known this green haired man for a few moments but she felt like they were a lot more alike than either of them could understand at that time. His calm nature had actually helped her to open up, for the first time since she came here she could speak with out stuttering like a fool.

"That sounds almost magical, I would love to see your work sometime. It sounds like you put a lot of heart into your creations. A true artist." She had to admit, she did not know much about art at all. There was not as much art in her village - just craftsmanship so she did not feel like she could appreciate it as much as others here, things in her eyes were either pretty or they were not but the thought of calved glass did sound wonderful. She wondered how it was done? She had very little knowledge on the topic, maybe he would show her one day. She was always up to exploring new things. There was a lot this city could teach her and even though she had just met Cais by the way he was speaking she knew he would one day master his art. She could see the passion in his eyes, it was really admirable. It was like how Huo talked about his fireworks, everyone here seemed to have a purpose. It really motivated her to follow her dream with such drive.

She shook her head at his next question. "No exactly I have been attending for a while, since I moved here. I just do not think I have that much of a recognisable face. A lot of people do not seem to notice me. I have seen you once or twice but... I never had a name to go alongside the face." She smiled tilting her head to one side and holding her hands together on the table. Everyone in Lunaria had such varied looks, each one unique and beautiful. Cais himself was a very handsome man, however thinking about it she had not really seen anyone ugly here. I guess she was the first to break the chain, she knew she was not as pretty as some of the other girls but she did not mind. She was happy just being herself.

A true artist. The words struck him oddly and caused him to nearly spit his water. Setting the cup aside again he observed her carefully, trying to hide the fact he was blushing. "Thank you." he blurted out, avoiding eye contact while he got a better hold on his face. "Not wasting anything is a good lesson to learn. I think everyone needs it." He nodded, thinking back to the countless things he'd seen tossed in crates by some of the more prosperous families of Lunaria. He snorted lightly with a smirk, some of those people really weren't that educated considering they had all of the money. Naturally, he'd never actually verbalize those thoughts.

"If you'd want to see the workshop I.." he paused for a moment, clearing his throat gently. "I'm sure I could show you sometime. Though, from an outsider's view I'm not sure how exciting that would be." Nervously a hand shot up and re-affixed his hat tentatively. She was very perceptive, especially for someone he just met. He did enjoy that about her already. Unlike some of the people he had met, she wasn't quick to judge or just plain dumb. No, he found her to be rather intelligent and a good conversationalist.

"I'm sorry if I've accidentally ignored you then. I tend to disappear at the Academy." He wanted to add and not just because I'm short, but he felt it better to leave his insecurities out of the conversation for now. "Is it a lot different in the city than back from your village? I've been out to a few villages with my father before, but never really got to see more than the back of our cart." Another pause. "Always wondered though."

"I would love to see anyway." She smiled and nodded her head in his direction, she had seen his blush and she looked down at the table, hair falling over her face to hide her own. She could not have seen that right, he could not be... either way he had asked her a question and she saw it as a way to get out of this awkward situation. Though the thought remained, she could never say that anyone had reacted in such a way to her and even though she would not admit it, she kind of liked it. She looked up at him once more, her mind thinking back to the village as her lips described it in the only way she thought possible. For back home it was the people who made the village what it was, even if she was never accepted as one of them.

"Well the village I came from was very small, a farming community with no more than maybe 40 people living it it. We did not have much money, sometimes you had families of three or four living in the same room in houses their grandfathers built from scratch. However despite this you never heard anyone complain or see someone with out a smile on their face, from a young age we were always told to work hard and appreciate the times when life was not so difficult. I guess you can say that people were united by struggle, it put little things like arguments into prospective and everyone came together to help one of their own. When there was a happy occasion like a wedding everyone came out onto the streets and everyone knew everyone else's business - even when you did not want them to, looking at it from the outside it was my idea of paradise."

She thought back to her home, the fresh fields, the mountains, the trees, the rivers. It was a beautiful little place, farm land stretched for as far as you could see. She thought of her mother and her father, living in their little hut and tending to the animals. Her heart ached as she thought about it. despite how most people treated her she missed her home very much. "However they never really classed me as one of their own, not many people liked me and some where scared of me... besides my parents I doubt many will care that I was taken away. Most people would be thankful for it." She stated with a small sigh, she did not mean to say that out loud however when she realised that she had her eyes went back over to him, green orbs staring into his. "It does not matter." She shook her head forcing onto her face a small smile, hoping he did not ask for a explanation, great Sara. Just great.

Watching her head turn from him only made him blush all of the more, but he tried his est to hide it by picking up his cup and taking another long swig of it. Listening to her talk Cais could picture it in his head, much to the way that Sara did herself. Though she spoke of hard times Cais's mind raced to see the beautiful surroundings, family unity and awesome festivals. But there was always that dark side and he understood that as well. In smaller communities, for example the Academy, one man's secret was the schools entertainment. Nothing stayed sacred, not for long.

His bright eyes caught hers as she continued. "It sounds hard at times, but to learn things like that must have been good." A lot of Lunarians in the city could do well with that lesson, but he didn't verbalize that want to her. He didn't feel like preaching her ear off just yet, not when he was so curious to hear about her life.

But that curiosity often proved to place him into dangerous waters of a conversation. "Scared of-" He had wanted to continue and say something nice but her next words stopped him entirely. Though she had said "it does not matter", Cais wasn't generally that aware when his curiosity took him. And this time it was mainly out of concern. "Taken away?" The words left his mouth slightly hushed while his brows fell rigid, he looked at her with genuine concern. What had this girl been through?
PostPosted: Wed Apr 20, 2011 4:26 pm

Sara looked at him and sighed, she closed her eyes and put her hand on his. She did not know how to tell him, so showing him was the next best option. A cold aura came off of her hand aswell as a small glow, energy from her own spirit flowing into his. It was enough for him to notice but not enough to cause much of a effect. Her eyes opened and she took her hand away from his.

She leaned forward so that their conversation kept between them. "I had always been different, some called me insane, others cursed. In the end peoples parents started to warn them away from me - not that anyone dare approach anyway. Even my parents thought I was ill, that is why they brought me here. However when they did the masters soon realised I was not crazy. I was able to manipulate the spirits of the dead. At this time the masters at the temple offered to take me in. They said they would save me from poverty, give me the chance to master my abilities and also train me to become a Priestess. So my parents gave me to them, hoping to give me a better life." She whispered, not wanting anyone else to hear, due to the things the children at home called her she had always tried to hide the fact. She tried to blend in and be as normal as she could possibly be. Her green eyes floated to meet his and they soon drifted to the side.

She was regretting her words, what would he think now? "T-that does not bother you does it?... I am sorry, I should not have mentioned anything." She stated, not really wanting to know how he would react to that. It was morbid if nothing else and she had never really told anyone what she was if she did not have to. She bowed her head and stood up, her hair still covering her eyes. Trying not to make contact with his. "It has been nice meeting you." She was nervous, after all she had always been called a freak and now she had admitted it. She wanted to run away, it is what she did when she felt like this.

Cais blinked curiously, his eyes full of sympathy as she told her story. He could feel that pain, it was apparent on her face. Should he have asked? Sometimes he cursed himself for having the curiosity of a young child even in his teenage years. "I'm sorry you had to endure that." He said with a motion of his hand, attempting to stop her. "Others can be cruel but I've heard of your gift before." He nodded once and smiled to her. "It's nothing to be ashamed of though, it's rare but to my knowledge, it's accepted around here, and I know it doesn't bother me. I actually have a friend who can communicate with the spirits of the dead, she's good friends with a certain one if I recall."

He spoke smoothly and with a smile, keeping his eyes on her though she turned from him. Unsure whether or not if he was helping he cleared his throat lightly and stood, walking to her and nodding to her. "Like with my glass blowing, or your bead making, it's a part of you to express, right?" A small laugh escaped him and he took another step, smiling back at him. "It's been good meeting you too. You don't mind if I remember your name as Sara, do you?"
PostPosted: Sun May 15, 2011 9:33 am

"It is easier to make friends with the dead... you can not have any prejudice against them because you can not see them, you can get to know who they really are with out your view being tainted and they see you the same." She smiled with a nod, finding some comfort she was not the only one he knew with her abilities - she herself had never met another Soul Conduit so she would like to meet this girl he spoke of some day. She looked to the floor slightly, not used to talking about herself in such a way.

She looked at him as he came over to her and nodded slightly, her teal eyes meeting his. "I guess I am just not used to showing that side of me to people... I do not yet see it as a positive thing but I am getting better, thank to people like you Cias." Her comment was genuine and from her heart - it was a relief to know people will willing to accept her, even more so she was considered normal. It was something that was lacking from her childhood and the deprivation of it had turned her into the withdrawn and insecure person she was.

"I... would like that very much." She added, everyone called her Sara and it only seemed fit if he did too. Today was a great break through - she had come out of her shell a little bit and exposed herself to someone for the first time since she came to Lunaria, besides Hua of course, a small blush crept on her face as she bowed her head slightly in his direction. "Thank you Cias - I hope our paths cross again sometime soon." She looked at him one last time, before turning around to head back home - a small rosiness tainting her cheeks as she did so.

As she left, she noticed her heart was racing.
