Amidst the darkness of the cavern, three figures stood, deep in conversation. The elders of the Abyssal Cult were growing impatient. An urgent messaged sent earlier that day had asked for a meeting. Discussing the potential nature of the meeting, they waited, long after the sender had asked for. Finally, just before their patience had worn thin, a thin, rat-like man crept out from the dark.

“I trust you have an excuse for your inexcusable lateness?” the centre of the trio asked.

“My apologies...I simply made the extra effort so as not to be...followed,” the man said, with a slight air of smug superiority. “Trust me though...this is something you may want to...take an interest in.”

“It better be, or you will find yourself the next sacrifice to the Dark Ones,” the man to the left of the trio warned.

“As you know, I have a...connection with the Dark Ones. They have visited me, in a vision, and warned of a danger to our goals,” the rat-like man continued. “It is in the form of two undercover agents. They have...infiltrated our members and wish to...remove our presence.”

“What? This is impossible!” exclaimed the final elder.

“If only it were. I...could only gather this information before the vision ended. We would do well to rid ourselves of them. Perhaps...as a ‘heroic sacrifice’ to the Dark Ones?” the man chuckled.

With a wave of his hand, the first elder silenced the man. “Very well. The first act you should do is to change your form into that of one of the members so that your identity may be kept secret. Bring your chosen one to us. They will be joining the Dark Ones shortly. Have Cornelius do the same.”

“Yes, my elders...” the man said, with a wicked grin on his face.

In a secluded vantage point somewhere in the labyrinthine lair the Abyssal Cult called home, a lone figure with a briefcase delved into their robes and produced a walkie-talkie. Clicking the button on the side, the walkie-talkie came to life with a crackle and the figure placed it to their mouth.

“GCO, this is Mongoose. Come in GCO,” the figure said.

“Mongoose, this is GCO. What is your query?” spoke the device.

“I’m in. Requesting the identity of Viper.”

“Request denied, Mongoose.”

“What? Why?”

“You never know who might be listening in. We need to keep you two as separate as possible so you don’t arouse suspicion.”

“How the hell am I supposed to know who to shoot then?”

“We’ve made subtle differences to the robes you two wear. It’s barely detectable unless you’re looking for it. Just, be sure to confirm before you shoot.”

“Affirmative, GCO,” Mongoose said, clicking off the walkie-talkie.

“Great. Just, great.” Mongoose said under their breath.
