The community of Christian Gnostics, though numbering in the tens of thousands, are demographically disadvantaged by being spread thinly around the globe. As a result of this lack of local population density, very very few practicing Christian Gnostics have a central meeting hall or "church" building where they may fellowship. Numerous websites, blogs and internet pages attest to the size and desire of the Gnostic community.
Just as we have learned that a wooden or brick structure is not a "church", so we should also realize that a website is not a "church". The "church" is the spiritual body of Christ, and is made up of individual people.
Our forum, though it is made available to all, is secondary to our Sunday morning meetings. Newcomers are made as welcome as long time attendees, and the hundreds of miles of physical distance are dissolved by modern technologies.
Alpha Omega is a Christian Gnostic church, a blending of two rich and diverse perspectives. While our individual membership may hold a variety of opinions, the official stance of Alpha Omega is recorded as follows;
(A)
1) Jesus Christ was the son of God incarnated in mortal form, and as such showed the world the nature of the Father, which had remained hidden or misunderstood in all previous recorded history.
2) Creation, no matter if the cause is explained in the fall of Adam, or the alternate Gnostic creation mythologies, is an imperfect gilded cage, a place where our bodies and minds are subject to the Archons of matter that seek to keep humanity in spiritual blinders.
3) Following the teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Gospels and certain Gnostic scriptures results in the removal of the spiritual blinders that every human being acquires that blind humanity to the internal obstacles that seperate God and mankind, making it possible to know the nature of the Father in a directly experiential way (Gnosis)
The interpretations used here of the teachings of Jesus Christ and his first through third generation of disciples are those interpretations that have shown positive results.
(B) Our stance on other Christian OR Gnostic denominations is not to judge. We use what we use because it works, and we know it works through direct experience.
The proof, they say, is always in the pudding. We will not pretend to know what the practices of other denominations accomplish and will leave that to the personal discernment of individuals following those practices.
Members of Alpha Omega are not bound by any loyalties of exclusivity except those loyalties freely given, and are free to attend or affiliate with any other church or religious organization.
Q/A
Q. I'm shy, and afraid of meeting with strangers on the internet.
A. We all have been standing in those shoes! We will do our best to sooth any first time jitters, and hopefully your second encounter with us will be anticipated with joy and longing after you switch off your computer following your first meeting.
Q. Are the meetings taped or recorded in any way?
A. No. Alpha and Omega promises NEVER to record your personal thoughts, and we ask all attendees not to use any recording programs or devices.
Q. What can I expect if I attend one of your meetings?
A. A short prayer, followed by a short reading. The "sermon" is made up of the personal insights of everyone, as we go around the "room". We then close with a short prayer, and the microphones are left open for people to discuss anything and everything.
Q. I am not the kind to have deep insights---it doesn't sound like I have much to contribute.
A. Your insights are deeper than you think, and the profoundness of our meetings sometimes starts with someone saying "I don't know".
