Upon reaching Cheydinhal, Hestia made a show of stopping to speak with the gate guard, who recognized her, and waved an arm to urge her 'bodyguards' onward. The two had not been happy with the ploy, she had recognized, but they had understood it, and had done a fair job of pretending. The disguises, she hoped, would have concealed their faces and forms enough that, on the road, the various Legion patrollers would not associate them with any proclamation the City Guard made. She had no idea if the Guards had gotten a clear look at Eliya or Ilumus' features to warrant wanted posters--she would certainly investigate it further upon her return to the City, and keep an eye on the matter.

I should reward the pair for their cooperation, she thought idly, slipping through the dawn's ruddy light and across dewy grasses towards the Sanctuary, once more cloaked in magic. It was not so easy an assignment in the end and I don't want them to think I hold a grudge for endangering it... mistakes happen. Resolved to consider the matter more at length in the future, the woman discreetly entered the Hall.

She shed her cloak and left it on a chair, feeling out of place in the violet ladies riding habit which clung to her figure. Shaking her hair back, she stalked through the murk in search of Eliya, figuring the Altmer might be somewhat easier to encounter than Ilumus. They had to report, but first, Hestia wanted a word or two.

"Eliya. Sister," she murmured loud enough to be heard when she caught sight of the familiar crimson tresses. After a dunk in the harbour and a ride all night, I bet she had some awful tangles to sort through! I wonder if she would let me help with that? Albeit true that Hestia much preferred her own gender when it came to romance, she had elevated Eliya to the status of sibling and thought of her as kin, one to be protected and not preyed upon."Shall we go find Valtieri and explain our evening? You must tell me what happened on ship, of the captain and others," she added, an eager tone creeping into her voice. She truly did want to hear how the assassination had played out.

Eliya ~

After Eliya had entered the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary she'd made her way to her cot, or more specifically her chest, and changed her clothes. Tight black leather pants and a sleevless black shirt un-occompanied by her standard black cloak clothed her. Though she wanted nothing more then to collapse in the comfort of her bed, she knew her duties and prepared to meet with Valtieri to give a report.

Before Eliya could search for the vampire she was intercepted by Valerian. "Sister." She acknowledged the woman. "That was just what I had in mind." A quick pause and she smiled, her lips curling as she recalled the deaths she'd caused.

"Ilumus picked the lock and we entered, I quickly slit the throat of the captain before he knew we were there.... it was glorious. I then had Ilumus wait in the captain's quarters where I then went and searched for the first mate. I believe I found her... I decapitated a woman at any rate and killed her gambling companion.... I meant to escape quickly but apparently Ilumus felt the need to make it look less like an assassination so that took time... .Anyways when I attempted to make my way out the Imperial Guard were upon us. "

Eliya looked away momentarily as if remembering. "We had no choice. We were escorted out and then I kicked Ilumus overboard and lunged after him....long story short we swam across the channel and then you met us at the stables." She looked coyly at the other woman. "I had no idea you were a noble. Clever cover up. Though I resent being a hand servant, I must admit it worked. Pray tell, what were things from your side?"

User Image "You're safe and so are your friends, there will be no punishment-" Ocheeva started saying but Ilumus cut her off "sorry for my rudeness but-" he looked behind him then closed the door he then looked back to Ocheeva "I nearly costed us the mission... we were right in the guards hands! that should not go unpunished for being so close to failure!" Ilumus tried explaining "If I have to punish you I'd also have to punish the others as well, you were a team, but I see no need for punishment, if I punished every one who was so close to failure, every one would have countless more scars then they already do" Ocheeva told him.

"Please Ocheeva... I want this to be a lesson I can learn from, one that I can remember... and the only way for that to happen is..." Ilumus found it hard to say what he wanted to say, "Is to what?" Ocheeva pressed on, "is to be scarred by some one I trust" Ilumus lied convincingly. "Ilumus... you don't learn lessons from scars-" Ocheeva started but yet again, Ilumus cut her off.

"I do..." he took off everything that covered his torso placing it in a little mess on the ground beside him, there were quite a few scars littered on his chest and back, he spoke as he pointed at one "this one here was when I had gone swimming when I was little and got attacked by a slaughterfish, and this one here-" he pointed to on going across his chest "was the mission with you..."

He rubbed a finger along that scar as Ocheeva looked at it remembering the mission they were on together "I accidentally knocked something down, I believe it was a vase... I caught it before it hit the ground, and thought I placed it back exactly where it was... but it was off by less than half an inch..." Ocheeva nodded remembering it "then when we moved on the man returned home and noticed it instantly, he found me... but not you, he drew his sword and slashed... remember... most of the blood that was there was mine" Ocheeva nodded "you had collapsed on the ground, he was standing over you ready to kill you, I had jumped from my hiding spot and killed him" she said still looking at the scar. "I costed us the bonus, and nearly my own life... please... do it"

"I'm sorry Ilumus... but I'm not going to cut you" Ocheeva tried explaining to Ilumus but he walked closer to her, he placed the dagger in her hand and held her palm closed around it "if you won't do it alone... than I will guide you" he pulled Ocheeva's hand and she didn't even try to fight, the dagger pushed deep into his side, some where nonlethal. He cringed in pain but didn't stop until the blade was all the way in, then he pulled it out and let go, the dagger instantly dropping out of Ocheeva's hand.

He smiled as he covered his wound "I need to remember my mistake... thank you" he bandaged the wound, then grabbed his clothes and armor he took off, to hide his wound "I'm sorry for forcing your hand" he was about to leave "Ilumus... it wasn't your fault you were caught on our mission, no one knew about his obsessive tendencies... and it's not your fault you were caught this mission either, you were trying to cover your tracks... just please... be a little more careful" Ocheeva said looking at him worriedly as he left.

Ilumus tried to make it to his chest with out being noticed by Hestia, Eliya or Vincente, and nearly growled when the first thing he did walking out of Ocheeva's room was bump into Vincente. He instantly removed his hand from his side to make it appear as if he was fine. "The mission is done Vincente... I need to get some rest... don't try and find me" he pushed past the vampire and made way for his chest.

He started to stagger a bit as the pain grew more and worse, he then bumped into another person and mumbled "sorry sister..." with out realizing it he had bumped into Eliya, but he continued to his room 'I need... to make it to... my chest' he thought as he moved 'damn... this cut hurts... it's deeper than I meant for it to be... great... my daggers back in Ocheeva's room... great way to unwillingly frame her... I hope she hides it... or slipped it in my pocket when I wasn't looking... there's my chest, why is it so-' his thought ended when he hit the chest head first and was unconscious.

"You two did well, very well, and I am sure the stroke on the captain was masterful," the dark-haired woman said encouragingly. She wished she had been present herself to observe Eliya at work. Some other time, Hestia thought. She motioned for the Altmer to walk with her through the Sanctuary to Valtieri's room.

"Perhaps if I had been swifter with my bow or more sure in my shots, Guards would not have noticed and come so quickly... but their patrols are endless." She sighed and shook her head. Such a commotion on the Marie Elena would have attracted attention of some sort, and with all the thieves and pirates in the area, the City Guard posted at the Waterfront was ever vigilant. "I took a gamble on distracting them by ensorcelling a Dunmer I knew on the ship, one I had run into in my life as a noblewoman--I knew she was paranoid and would be on watch so I could make use of her. I thought she might last longer in keeping them occupied, but I fear the encounter may have had the opposite effect..." she realised she was clenching her hands, and released them.

"At least you escaped swiftly, and in a way they could not follow. That heavy armour can be as problematic as it is useful for the Legion, I have always thought, so going by water was smart." She paused here as Ilumus came into view, offering the man a smile, but he merely bumped into Eliya, muttered an apology, and kept on going into the sleeping quarters. Hestia longed to be on her cot herself, but it would probably be more prudent for her to take up residence in Cheydinhal where her whereabouts could be accounted for.

"Anyway, while you swam, I distracted the guard and assumed my public identity--I am House Varo's heir when I am not here or on assignment. I used that to my advantage, and charmed a Guard captain to escort me home. I apologise for the attitude in the stables... it was an act, as you and our Brother seemed to have figured out. I just didn't want to risk us being followed or recognized as we left."

The pair had come close to Valtieri's room while Hestia had told Eliya her side of the operation. "Night Mother forgive us, all in all we succeeded, didn't we? It sounds like Ilumus left them quite a confusing mess to sort through!"

Eliya ~

Surprised, Eliya found herself warming up to the other woman as they spoke. As Hestia clenched her hands Eliya put a gentle hand on her shoulder for a brief moment. "Yes, it could have gone more smoothly but we at least accomplished our task and made it out alive." She released her light touch as the woman continued speaking. "Yes the water was obviously the best choice, however it was extremely tiring."

Both of the women paused briefly as Ilumus bumped into Eliya, muttered an apology and went to the sleeping quarters. I wonder if he's okay thought the mage slightly concerned. He didn't look so well. Should she check on him? No he obviously liked his space, she would leave him alone.... at least until after she reported back to Valtieri and then went to the sleeping quarters to rest.

Realizing that Valerian was still talking she focused back to the other woman's words. "Ah, yes that explains much. Very clever of you." Eliya waived off the other woman's apology. "I'm sure you did the right thing. It made circumstances we hadn't planned for less problematic."

Before Eliya could comment on the brunette's final words, Valtieri opened his door. "Sister's, I assume the mission was a success?" The vampire peered at them while waiting a reply. His interaction with Ilumus moments earlier had left him wondering about their endeavor.

Eliya nodded. "Yes, brother -- it is done."

She glanced at Hestia, hoping the other woman would let it be at that and not feel the need to explain anything further to Vicente. Their job has been mildly unprofessional, short of a disaster but the man in front of them didn't need to know that, he didn't ask. He just wanted to know that the task was finished. He didn't care how.

"Well good. I suppose a reward and advancement are in order then are they not?" The man reached into the folds of his cloak and pulled out three rings. "Black bands. When worn they will fortify light armor and security as well as resist magic. [5 points, 5%] Here's a small bonus for finishing within twenty-four hours and not getting caught." He handed each of them 100 gold coins. "You are hereby promoted to Eliminator."

With that Vicente Valtieri left them.

[[I guess the quest is over now - we can assume that Ilumus is fine and he got his reward somehow]]

User Image Ilumus woke up beside his chest, feeling a bump on his head from when he passed out. The first thing he did was made sure that there were no bite marks on his neck, and to his surprise there wasn't. 'it just means he didn't know I was out here' he thought to himself as he propped himself up. He opened his chest and placed his trophies in it.

He grabbed a light healing potion with a broken heart symbol on it, drank it then placed the flask back in the chest. His wound healed but not enough to prevent scarring. He stood up closed the chest but did not move, he stood there staring at it.

'I thought I was covering my tracks... I made a useless mess that took time' he thought sitting down leaning his back on the chest. 'Everything I made sure to teach myself... was it all useless? I nearly got Eliya and myself caught, if not killed, I need to find them and apologize for my failure... apologize for my stupidity, maybe my lessons are pointless' he went to get some food, sitting down at the table not even trying to place everything in the perfect spot like he usually did.

'All this time I've been trying to test and train the others... and all I've been doing was trying to train and teach them the wrong things... that's why I've stayed so lo in rank for so long... my lessons are false, useless... my trophies... what are they to me now? there not from my missions of success... they're from my missions of failure' when he finished he left leaving his dishes behind.

He went back to Ocheeva's room and retrieved his dagger apologizing to her before he left again, then slowly he walked over to Vincente's room, he stood at the door for a few seconds. He knocked and Vincente seemed surprised when he answered the door "I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused you... it's all been... a useless paranoia of mine... you are a brother and deserve to be treated better than that... please... forgive me" he said and stood there waiting for Valtieri to say no.

Hestia said little to Valtieri, only commenting to reinforce Eliya's report. She accepted her new rank with a swelling of pride, and the black band with intrigue. It would likely be more a mark of accomplishment for her than a useful tool, since she did not wear armour and was not yet an apt lock-picker. Still, she slipped the band around her finger with bowed to the vampire before following after the Altmer. The gold Hestia thought little about--much of her needs were met in day to day life.

Still, her mother was of the idea that Hestia's ambition would be better cultivated if she were to work towards material goals. The Brotherhood pay would go far in equipping herself with more suitable gear as she continued to complete assignments. She would stow the coins in her chest, knowing them safer in the Sanctuary than anywhere else in Cyrodiil.

"I need to be going. I will sleep topside, to preserve my public face. I visit Cheydinhal regularly enough that no Imperial Guard will think twice on me coming here to get away from my vicious attack the other night." She grimaced and touched her shoulder, where no scar remained but the memory of burning pain lingered. She pressed on, and clasped the redhead's hand briefly. "I will hopefully see you soon, Sister. Be careful if you show your face about the City, and if you need anywhere to stay, go to Jastia Varo's house in Talos Plaza. Tell her you are my friend; she is discreet, and does not ask questions."

She glanced about the murky red interior of the Sanctuary, missing it already. "If you see Ilumus, thank him for me. Night Mother bless you, both of you," she added. Hestia smiled once more, with affection--the operation had done much to bond her with Eliya and Ilumus both. With that, the assassin knew it time to don her disguise of aristocrat and took her leave of Eliya.

User Image "it's ok brother, I forgive you-" Valtieri started "you and Ocheeva... why are you both so forgiving?" Ilumus asked. "because you are our family, brother... and as for last mission here are your rewards" Valtieri said giving him a black band and some gold.

"Thank you brother... may we leave the past to be so... and start anew" he held out his hand and shook Valtieri's hand before heading back to his chest. When he got to his chest instead of opening it with a key he decided to lock pick his own chest as practice. He had trouble but after a short while and a few broken lock picks he managed to get it to open. He put the gold in a secrete compartment in the chest. He closed the chest and locked it, putting the black band on.

A second thought went through his head, he reopened the chest and pulled out some raggedy clothes that looked like they belonged to the poor 'I think it's time I payed the over world a visit' he got changed into the clothes and put his brotherhood clothes away in the chest locking it again. He stood up strait and sighed as he left the sanctuary for the first time in a good long while, not on a mission.
