 And so the first tournament kicks off with somewhat pleasant weather to be had this gray morning! A small crowd of wolves has gathered a small distance away from your fight, some cheering on family, others booing or chanting for a particular wolf to lose concentration. Whether the combatants know each other or not, there is no doubt a certain air of tense energy in the arena today. The mid-morning chill might freeze toes, but for the combatants that will soon be a minor problem.

Oath called the names of the two new entrants to the younglings' portion of the competition, pleased that even strangers had decided to enter. Though she wondered if either of their parents were aware that their children were participating . . . Ah well. It was not her place to probe the newcomers, only to welcome them and oversee their fight. "Do your best and have no regrets," she told them after explaining the general rules. "For those that do fight well."
((Combatants, make an entrance post with the pups getting ready to fight and roll a 10 sided die at the same time!))

 Danu paced left and right as the announcements went on. It was her turn to fight, and while she felt nervous inside, she also felt a strange calm. She wasn't Daddy's fragile girl today, she could make him proud when she went home a winner.
She wished her sister was here, though. She felt like An was a good luck charm for her, and being away made it hard to focus on things like being strong and doing a good job. She could do it though, in the end, anything was possible because she was her Dad's daughter. That was what mattered right now.
Danu rolled her shoulders and stamped her paws into the ground. The most colorful wolf she had ever seen told them the rules, and though she listened carefully, Danu couldn't help but smile at what a wonderful aura the older female had radiating off of her.
For Dad. she thought finally, standing tall.

Eris was scared. She didn't want to fight but her Aunt Hera had told her to do so. She had said that doing this might make her half-brother rethink his decision of kicking her out of his family and to restore both hers and her father's honor and status in his pack. She snorted softly. Her half-brother didn't want her as a half-sister. He thought of her as tainted blood but there was a slight glimmer of hope that he might reconsider her about being apart of his family again.
She listened carefully to the Shaman's words. She braced herself, preparing for the first strike that the younger pup may deal upon her. She wasn't one to start fights but she was brave enough to defend herself if she did encounter such conflicts. She pinned her ears back against her skull. She was the only half-grown wolf to enter the competition but she didn't really mind. At least she could pull her blows if she felt that they would be too hard for the young pup.
For my honor and pride, she thought to herself, reminding herself of why she was doing this competition. That was the only motivation that she needed to get through this fight and possibly the other ones if she was the victor of this fight.

While there was the usual sense of nervousness from each, Oath was sensitive to the memories being brought up by each combatant. From Danu she got glimpses of a small family in a den of thieves, though not entirely the sordid kind the word invoked - glimpses of vivid blue and purple, brothers once separated and together once more - glimpses of a mother that looked like the pup, collecting and hoarding and always on the move. Oath smiled a little, reassured that this one at least had family.
The other, however, had the shaman's smile fading as she witnessed Eris' ghosts - of curses cast upon those deemed unfit to share blood, where a fatal night threw family into civil war - of a goddess hidden in the moon that was kindly and yet called for much sacrifice - of bigotry towards the unnatural, towards strangers even, for something they had no control of. This one had a lot of pressure on her shoulders . . . Oathkeeper gave her a sympathetic look.
And the nshe stepped back and sat on her haunches, clearly saying only one word: "Begin."

Danu winced ever so slightly as the colorful female gave them their cue. The crowd around them wasn't huge, and wasn't particularly close, but Danu puffed herself up anyway. Why shouldn't it be entertaining to watch?
With narrowed eyes and ears cocked forward she circled left, thinking it was crazy that she fight a wolf bigger than her. Ohwell, that would make things ever better if she won, and cushion the blow of a loss in the event that she failed.
Danu lept forward suddenly, scampering towards her large prey. Her small maw opened just in time for her to attempt to bite into the leg of her opponent. She didn't dare shut her eyes, so she prayed with them open.

Eris gazed at the Shaman and saw a sympathetic look in her direction from the older wolf. She winced slightly at that look. She hated that type of wolf. She shook her head. Maybe it was mandatory for the Shaman to see inside of her memories to see what kind of wolf she was along with her opponent. She let her gaze drift away from the Shaman and on the young pup as she heard the older wolf declare the spare to begin.
Eris watched the young pup carefully, turning around in a tight circle to follow her. She tried to ignore the other wolves that watched their spare. She tried not to look in the direction of her Aunt Hera, knowing that she would be watching from a distance. Hopefully her half-brother hadn't come to watch her battle. She didn't want to be deemed weak if she lost this spare. Her concentration was broken and she saw a flash of blue. She pulled up in time to miss the blow that was directed at her leg. She quickly angled her body downward and aimed her jaws at the pup's scruff of her neck.

Danu slid a little past where she had intended to hit as her opponent pulled away. She knew there was no escaping what came next, though she tried. Danu felt the pain as the older wolf's jaws closed down on the back of her neck, and she whined softly as she wrenched away.
Mama knew how to pick her up by the scruff of her neck where it never hurt her, but now she realized life wasn't all about calm and peace. She'd had an inkling, but never a solid realization like this.
Moving back, but not too far, she decided to take a shorter strike this time. While still close, the pup bared her fangs and struck for her opponent's side.

Eris was a little startled when the pup managed to slither out of her jaws. Maybe she hadn't had them around the scruff of her opponent's neck hard enough. She didn't want to be too firm with a smaller pup, though. She got slightly distracted and didn't notice the other pup until she felt something bite her side. She instinctively reacted and bite down on the young pup's muzzle to make her let go of her side.

The blue and brown pup jerked away, whipping her head left and right to get the older wolf off her muzzle. Her bite had struck home and she was satisfied of that, at least.
Backing away, she thought good and hard about what she would do now. She knew the fights weren't until death, and took solace in the fact that not only would she not have to kill anyone, but she wouldn't be killed herself if the problem arose.
She was to the edge of their fighting circle now, and she wondered if a charge toward her opponent would hinder the bigger wolf's next attack. So far the teen had been right on with her bites and claws. Cringing at the thought of being scruffed again, Danu threw caution to the wind and charged, careening as fast as she could go towards the other fighter.

Eris stumbled back a few steps as the younger pup charged at her. She barely felt the young pup's attack and she was a little worried that she was taking this match a little too harsh on the other pup. She reacted to the pup's attack by lunging her body at Danu to try and knock the pup off of her paws.

Oh no you guys! Seems the wind has been picking up and is now beginning to lift some of the sand right into your faces! If you aren't careful, you might take damage from being blinded temporarily from the stuff digging into your eyes.
Randomize a number between 1 and 3!
1 = You manage to avoid getting sand in your eyes and suffer no penalty! YAY.
2 = Unfortunately some of it gets into your eyes, making you take 2 damage as you try to get it out. But at least you can keep battling!
3 = You seriously just looked the sand in the eye - and lost the staring competition. Take 3 damage and lose your turn (meaning this post and the next) to temporary blindness.
Order of first post doesn't matter now since it's kinda interfering with the battle~ Think of this as a reset with the first poster getting first shot.

Danu took the lunge easily, side-stepping for the most part. The battle was getting tiresome for her, being so young, and she wondered if the other wolf might win simply on stamina.
As she kept her eye on her opponent, she realized a wind was ruffling her fur around in odd directions, throwing sand and debris in their faces. She did her best to shield her eyes, but it did no real good.
She fought to cry, to cause her tears to wash the sand away. It stung badly, but after a few moments of battling the sand, Danu came out on top.

Eris paused briefly right when there was a big gust of wind that pulled sand in her eyes, causing her to be blinded temporarily. Stumbling slightly, she ran into a random stone that had been blown onto the arena, causing her to stumble into the ground. Coughing, she stayed down for a few moments to try and regain her sight as she shook the sand out of her eyes.

Though Eris was blinded, Oath knew the fight was taking far too long. The sand cloud that had been thrown up was impeding the girls, and Oath feared that maybe one of them might have inhaled too much of the hazardous stuff. Quickly the shaman stepped in between the two, her shadow cast over them. "This fight ends now before more sand gets in the way," she said, surveying the two briefly. "The winner is Eris." She seemed to be in better condition than the other pup at the least - it might be unpopular to end a fight over something as small as sand, but this was not a serious tournament, and the last thing she wanted was for someone to be, she didn't know, blinded.
"I will lead you both to Spellbinder for some well-deserved rest before the second round begins," Oath told them both, and gingerly began to direct them out of the sandy pit.

And indeed the surly healer looked after the two girls once she was finished with Last Stand and Glory Storm, though she did express disappointment that the fight came to such a conclusion. Lucky for her, and perhaps unluckily for everyone else, someone else was going to be bringing some action . . .
