It was a good day to be alive. His name was Johnny, and for all the thin scars lining his hands and neck, he had made good. All that had to be done to confirm that was to look around. It was a small office, quaint but well kept and distinctly cared for by the man in a meticulous sort of way. That didn't mean that those large leather seats weren't comfortable looking though, or that big cherry-wood desk didn't sport a few pictures of a loved lady and a home they shared. It just all had its place and its way, as did its keeper. The rest of the room was sparsely decorated. A few paintings, his legal certificate, and a few plants scattered about. The only prominent thing beside his throne was the bookshelf that spanned half the wall.
Currently, the man was reading something plucked from the shelf. His feet were propped up comfortably on the edge of the desk, and he leaned back easily with a smile lingering on his features. It was all there really was to do while he waited for a client to wander in, so on he read, looking up every so often as if expecting something to happen sooner or later - even if it was playing odds.

" I'm not in trouble again," Kimberly called out as she strode into the building that hosted the small law office. It was her typical greeting for Johnny to let him know that no she wasn't about to make him work 50 hours trying to find some loophole to defend her with. Not that she didn't pay well for his legal advice and services but Kimberly knew she tended to get herself in the most awkward of situations that usually meant looking up old ordinances and whatnot to get her off with.
Technically she wasn't lying either, she wasn't in trouble but the young woman did need help. Or at least she was going to ask for help under the premise of offering something.
It gnawed at her that this had to happen though, much as she trusted and respected the lawyer. It never should have come to the point where Rui was separated from Shi, siblings were meant to stick together. It was impossible for her to care for both of the twins though and with Kendrix missing for months it had become unfeasible for her to keep doing this. She could find and make the money to support them but.. her heart hurt looking at Rui. He was a good kid but she didn't understand him at all and he seemed to be pining both for Drix and the foo dog genetic mother of his at the labs.
Kimberly didn't want to home him somewhere else but it wasn't fair to him if she kept staring at him and seeing only her sister's glee at having a bigger family. She cared about Rui and wanted the best for him and that meant not being in a house where his sole parent both cared for and about him a while subtly resenting him. It wasn't like she planned to abandon him though, if Johnny agreed to adopt him than she'd put in strict conditions about visitation.
He and Shi needed to see each other at least once a week, should go to the same school when they were old enough and there should be phone privileges as well. Kimberly herself would still want to see him, to take him to the movies on occasion and give him presents, she just couldn't raise him because well, he was never really hers to raise.
It was too soon to make too many plans yet as her friend might not want this responsibility and Kimberly would be left trying to think of another acquaintance she trusted enough with something so precious. She could only hope for the best outcome and also hope that the babysitter currently watching the twins remembered to cut the crusts off the corner of their sandwiches when they had a snack.

The smile hovering on his features widened into a grin. The novel was set aside as he slid his feet off the desk and leaned in, watching the woman. "I think you mean, 'I'm not in trouble, YET.'" Despite the lighthearted crack at her expense, it didn't take him long to notice the look on her face. Something was bothering her, and if it wasn't a legal issue than he was a little more than just concerned. His brow furrowed and the grin vanished as he gestured to a chair. "You are in trouble, aren't you? Just not one that goes to court. Pull up a chair and tell me what's on your mind."

Kimberly plopped herself down into the chair opposite Johnny and shot him a mock smile "Alright you got me, it's not a court thing this time but it's just as serious." The woman sighed and ran a hand through her hair before she continued. "Drix has gone missing, I don't think she's coming back this time either," kimberly admitted, pain evident in her voice. " But that's not it,we adopted some kids a while back and well.." she trailed off, suddenly unable to finish to figure out how to get out the words she wanted to say.

The words weren't necessary. Johnny closed his eyes and leaned back, taking a deep breath before releasing it. "You know my reputation. I won't expose the kid to that kind of life, but you have to know he'll find out one of these days. Are you sure you want that?" He opened his eyes then and looked expectantly at her, before gesturing to one of the picture frames on his desk. "He'll also have to deal with my beau. Donna's a good woman, she is, but I don't know how she'll react. If I placed my bet, she'd probably treat it like she would her own, so at least he'd be safe and taken care of if I had to have her watch him while I work. Still, the decision is yours. Tell me what you want me to do."
