I would definately do it. If I lost my life trying to save the planet, thats 1 person out of 6 billion. I think that it would be better to lose my life to help others live.. I'd need somebody to help me through it though sweatdrop

Sure, why not. And I would surely risk my life to protect my one and only... without her, my life's meaningless anyway...

And Cloud risked his life to save his life (in a way). If he did nothing, he would die along with everyone else, but if he fought, there was a chance of saving everyone. And he had quite the personal interest in that too, revenge for Nibelheim. He wanted to kill Sephiroth if it was the last thing he'd do.
