Another day, another show, Lesomph thought sourly as he made his way through the crowds, trying to see if he could find a way to entertain himself before the show began. He knew the circus matron would probably give him Hell if she saw that he wasn't helping the rest of the circus drow set up, but he was fairly confident that he could produce an excuse if she noticed his absence. He really did hate to dirty his hands with menial chores; perhaps he could say that his hands were feeling shaky and he did not wish to overtire them. She probably wouldn't buy it, but any of his assistants who happened to overhear would probably intervene on his behalf. After all, nobody wanted to have knives hurled at them by a 'fatigued' knife-thrower.

He watched the crowd as they shoved past him, smiling at the sight of every female and wondering how many of them would want to share his bed when the show was over. He always cut such a dashing figure up on the stage: his billowing shirt with the throwing arm's sleeve pulled back to reveal his tattoo, his tight, glitter-threaded pants, his flowing hair and orange eyes, a sight that caused even the most stoic matron to blush slightly as he tossed winks to to crowd before hurling shards of death at a young female, strapped and spinning about on a round platform. He very seldom missed, but everyone who had ever been his assistant knew that he liked to play to the crowd, which meant cutting it close enough to make them all close their eyes and pray as the daggers hissed toward them.

He had about half an hour, and so he chose to walk about at his leisure, dreaming of the day when he could be one of the crowd and not hiding in this silly circus from the ones who were looking to hunt him down and make him answer for his crimes. Lucky for him the matron hadn't asked questions when he joined, but sooner or later he felt that his past would come creeping up on him, and then he would have no choice but to leave.

User ImageWide eyes darting about at every new thing that he passed by, Yvvas happily found himself enjoying with vigor this new place he'd found completely by happenstance. So many different colors and contraptions and people, he couldn't decide whether he wanted to sit and watch everything go by or plunge into the fray and explore everywhere and everything he could find to go or get this hands on.

Not used to standing in one place for so long, as he usually either kept on the move or found someplace to sit, he decided that whether or not he did something he'd better do it soon. He was almost growing to panic at having everything before him yet not knowing what to do with it. His fingers twitched with glee and he finally shook himself out of his awe enough to take a step forward. The bustling crowd was just ahead of him and if he could just get to it his lithe form could move about as he pleased and his mind would decide what to do on a whim.

Another step forward and another and finally he was within the color and action and for once his bright red adornment did not stick out like a sore thumb. He found he rather enjoyed that and yet was annoyed by it at the same time, he liked being able to blend in even though he should stand out. Blending in without trying, it was too easy, no effort whatsoever. His eyes were still trying to soak up as much as he could of his surroundings, so he wasn't worried about being bored by not having to work to stay unobtrusive.

He was just about in the middle of the crowd when he caught sight of something overbearingly shiny and just begging Yvvas to discover just what exactly it was. His head turning to follow the object of his fascination while he feet still carried him forward, he almost squeaked in surprise when he found himself stopping not of his own accord, having accidentally run headfirst into the back of someone else. Rubbing his cheek where it had come into contact with something hard, his eyes widened slightly when he looked up to see who it was he had run into. He blinked at the poofy sleeves and the glittery pants, but his attention was immediately drawn to the assortment of knives strapped to the Drow's waist.

His eyes glittered with joy at the slender shiny objects and he had to resist trying to deftly pluck one out to inspect it, guessing that this man was likely someone who belonged to the big commotion that was going on and crossing him would likely get Yvvas tossed out before he could discover all the interesting things the place had to offer. Instead he lifted his gaze to the face of the man and tilted his head to the side, imagining that the Drow's flowing mane of hair would almost be as much fun to play with as the knives. So caught up was he in his own musings that he failed to notice that he was simply standing and staring up at the man without doing anything else.

Lesomph was still so caught up in his brooding that the feel of someone bumping into him took him completely by surprise. His mind still on the ones seeking him out, he whirled around, knowing better than to pull out one of his daggers in the middle of the crowd, but ready to flee if need be; that was the best thing about a crowd; it was ideal camouflage for just about anybody. And with a circus full of colorful characters and bustling people who were every bit as colorful, he had but to take evasive action and he could hide from his pursuers. His only annoyance would be having to tell the matron about his either needing to disguise himself or forgoing the act altogether. Knowing that many girls took to Lesomph and used him as a reason to be repeat customers, she would NOT be pleased.

But all of these thoughts evaporated as he stared down at the culprit who had bumped into him. He knew that those who sought him would not send such a small attacker to do away with him, and the other's golden eyes held no recognition, only a deep and obvious fascination, which of course served to stoke his ego. Here was someone who undoubtedly found him impressive to behold, which never hurt, even if it was just a lad and not one of the usual huddled group of young females who cast amorous looks his way.

Thinking all of this, he quelled his 'Watch where you're going, you little squirt!' and looked down at the boy with what he hoped passed for a friendly smile. Here WAS a customer after all, and younger ones always came under the circus' wonder faster, and thus more likely to squander every coin they had here. "Well........hello. Are you lost?"

Blinking his wide eyes, Yvvas replied to Lesomph's question in his usual flat monotone, "No." He was never lost, always exploring. It wasn't like he had anyplace he visited or stayed at frequently enough to call a home, he didn't have any people or family waiting or even looking for him, either. He wasn't really interested in that anyways, it would keep him from exploring and from what he witnessed of other families there wasn't really much upside to being cooped up in a large building and made to sleep on some form of blanketed rack.

For a moment he debated whether or not the circus would be any different than a house; it looked like they moved around a lot and there were enough colorful and shiny objects to keep him interested for quite some time. He mentally frowned, dismissing the idea almost immediately. They would probably expect him to do something repetitive or laborious to earn his keep or make him stay even after he had seen all of the shiny things and gotten bored. No, he might follow the circus for a bit and find some interesting things, but he could never try to be a part of it.

Seeing the other's almost friendly smile, Yvvas came out of his thoughts and returned it with his own wicked grin, the only smile he could really muster at the moment. Most of his attention was still on the daggers about the circus Drow's waist, and most of what was left was still debating playing with the fluffy hair that would just be out of his reach had he the inclination to try. He might, later.

For now he was not yet ready to be made into someone suspicious, it would be easy enough for him to slip into the crowd, but as he had thought earlier anything that was easy wasn't very interesting. He wondered if he could get the Drow to amuse him without having to do anything too destructive, calling again on his monotonous vocal patterns, "What do you do with your knives?"

Taken aback by the youth's unenthusiastic reply, Lesomph blinked for a full five seconds before regaining his customary aloofness. "Huh; just exploring, eh? Well there's certainly plenty to see." It wasn't too unheard of for a young drow to come to the circus on his own. Perhaps a noble boy who risked a severe whipping by shirking his chores and coming down to experience what was to be the only bit of joy in their entire lengthy childhood. Or a child of a nobody, just coming to see what all the fuss was about. The circus brought all kinds.

At least now the boy was smiling. Maybe he just wan't used to someone taking an interest in him by speaking to him. He could certainly relate to that. He noticed the boy's gaze constantly straying toward his daggers, the showy ones that he wore out in the open. There were others on his person of course (and have fun finding out where on his person he kept them), but he was used to gathering stares with these steely beauties. He practiced for countless long hours with each one, knowing which one flew slightly to the left when thrown, which one had a slight scratch that looked very dramatic when blood from the slightest nick ran down it. He knew each one as though they were part of his body, something he was proud of, despite his constant irritation at being a mere circus performer. It didn't hurt to have SOMETHING likeable about it.

His eyebrows raised at the question. This surely must be the child's first trip to the circus, to ask a person with so many knives what he did with them! His orange eyes glinting with non-malicious mischief, the kind he tended to reserve for the stage, he returned the lad's previous smile. "Would you like to see?" Reaching down to pull one of his knives from it's holder, he spun around and threw it, watching as it imbedded itself neatly on the wooden table of a nearby stall, cutting one of the strands of rope that held the sign for 'Circus Cakes' up. Smiling disarmingly at the annoyed look of the cake seller, he turned and bowed to crowd, many of whom began to laugh and clap. "How about another one, knife-thrower!" the cry rang out, and was soon taken up by more, until it solidified into a chant of "One more! One more! One more!" Lesomph walked back up to the young drow and assumed his previous disarming smile. "Want to be my volunteer for this one? You won't be harmed, of course."
