Yes, it was indeed very funny, and Riyo was ready to comment on that... Until her line jerked.
"Hoho! Got one!" She immediately stood up and fought with her rod to yank the fish in. It wasn't as easy with a makeshift pole. If the stick wasn't strong enough, it would break, and the only way to 'reel it in' was pulling on said fragile pole.
But Riyo didn't have the money to buy an actual fishing rod, nor the patience to continually haul one around.
"I think it's big!" Of course, they always say that.
It took her a few minutes of fighting, but she finally got it close to the shore and... Low and behold...
It was a minnow. No bigger than the palm of her hand.
"... The big one must've tricked me and hooked this little guy. Yep."

Hearing Riyo's exclamation, Blade looked over to see her struggling with bringing up her fish. From the way she was moving about, he figured that she actually did manage to catch a big one. However....
"It's a big one alright," snickered the thief, trying to contain his laughter, but that didn't stop him from grinning like a fool.
So far he hadn't had much luck with getting a bite, but this was a thing of patience after all. As long as he manages to catch something, he'd be fine since he had never caught anything before.

Riyo's eyes narrowed in Blade's direction as she grabbed the fish and skillfully unhooked it. "Yeah, you won't be laughing when you can't even catch this."
While she was sticking her tongue out at Blade, the fish saw it as a great opportunity to flail out of Riyo's grasp and jump right back in the lake. "Son of a-!" She started, looking rather pissed that she lost her catch. Sure, it had been small, but that made the fact that she lost it even more embarrassing.
With a frustrated sigh, Riyo grabbed another worm, baited her hook, and tossed it back out. "You just wait. I'll catch the big one and you'll be the one going hungry."

"Yeah, yeah. Sure thing."
Grinning as the little fish got away, Blade turned his attention back to his makeshift rod. He wiggled the pole a little and felt something tugging back as he did so. Eyes widening, he began to pull at it more, straining a bit as whatever it was seemed to be putting up quite a fight.
"I got something!" he exclaimed while he pulled and pulled.
And brought up a chunk of seaweed. Looking a little deflated with this catch, he stared at the green hunk in disbelief.
"Well... I got something..."

Riyo's eyes darted over to Blade as she heard him yell, slightly nervous that he would catch some huge fish by sheer luck and make her look bad.
... If anything, he ended up making her look good.
"... Well Blade. I hope you like salads." Riyo teased, a snicker quickly following just as he had done to her. At least she'd caught a fish at this point... Even if it had gotten away from her. "That's actually supposed to be good for you. Rich in vitamin K or something..."

Giving Riyo a sidewards glance, Blade removed the seaweed and went on and tossed that into the bucket.
"Well it's still something I can eat," he retorted lightly while checking the hook. He had apparently lost his old worm while tugging the weed, so he took a moment to hunt down a new grub to use. It wasn't too hard seeing how he knew where to look now. Once he had it on the hook he recast his line.
"It didn't escape me, that's for sure," he teased, "But don't worry too much. A fish will be coming my way in no time."

Riyo had been about to look back towards her pole, but Blade's last comment earned him a dirty look. "Ohhhh, you just wait." Was she actually pissed or just playing? It was always difficult to tell with her.
Moving her line gently, she noticed a little resistance... Though it wasn't much.
"Hm." Probably wasn't a fish, so...
Carefully, she pulled up her line, immediately realizing it was a piece of clothing as it surfaced..
Though what kind she couldn't tell until it had fully emerged.
It was a thong. A chewed up one at that. And it made Riyo cringe. "Hey. Got a pair of underwear for you." She commented, immediately remembering the night of new years. Wow. She really hadn't wanted to think about that.
In an effort to hide her blush, she quietly turned around to free the used garment and re-bait her line.

Looking back towards the water, Blade didn't glance over at Riyo until he heard her make a noise. It seemed that she had something... which turned out to be a thong. Blinking at that, he was about to comment, but she had said something before he could and he ended up cringing at her words.
Looking away from her towards the lake again, he shifted uncomfortably as new years eve hit him like a storm. It wasn't something he wanted to remember either. He had actually gotten rid of the panties he acquired from that night... feeling far too awkward and dirty to keep them around.
Wiggling his line, he felt no resistance so he just waited in silence while trying to forget things.

Awkwardly, Riyo tossed the thong to the side and cast her line back out. She wasn't particularly sure what she should say to Blade after that one... It was obvious he felt about the same way.
Quietly, she pondered a way to break the tension... Though she couldn't help wondering... What the hell he'd done with her underwear.
"Sooo..." Riyo started after a few minutes, figuring she could think better if she started talking.
"... Have you heard anything from Nami or Tessa?"
The fact that they hadn't been around really wasn't surprising considering the whole winter break thing... But there was something unsettling about the silence. "I figured they would've had something up their sleeves for making us miserable during the holidays too... But I haven't seen any evidence of their existence since... You know."

Moving the pole now and then, the thief kept his eyes trained on the water as he felt the awkwardness in the air still. It broke a little as Riyo shifted the topic, though it wasn't one he particularly cared for a whole lot.
"Haven't heard a thing," he replied after thinking on it for the moment, "My guess is that they're biding their time..."
Pausing there, he shook his head to himself and quietly added, "Though, even if I did know anything I doubt I would be able to do anything about it..."
After all, he kinda knew about the whole Halloween thing before it happened and he was completely powerless to shift the tides there. Granted, he didn't know the whole story until it was happening, but he didn't really think of that as a really good excuse.

Making a face as Blade added that last part, Riyo looked over to him with a raised eyebrow.
"O...Kay?" The whole 'knowing about Halloween before the fact' had averted her, but even so...
"I... Guess you're talking about fighting my battles. In which case... I'd rather you didn't."
Biting her tongue for a moment, she tried not to be defensive... Though it was hard with all these men jumping in and trying to protect the "poor defenseless girl".
"Look Blade. You can't imagine how much I appreciate your friendship. Having friends is the bees knees. Never thought it'd happen to me but now that it has, holy crap. Great stuff."
changing her position on the rock a little, she tried to get comfortable again. "But by that same token, you don't need to go out of your way to jump in front of a train for me. If I get in trouble, no big thing. If I get kicked out of school, I'll live on the streets for a little while before picking myself up and getting a new life. Honestly, now that my mother is in jail, I could care less what happens. Nothing could ever be worse than her."

Frowning at her statement, Blade looked back towards her while she elaborated. Though she spoke like it was nothing, he still didn't like the thought of it.
"Seeing how I've really had no friends before this year... I think I can have an idea of the appreciation," he said quietly before letting out a sigh, "Maybe it's just selfish of me.. I just don't really like the idea of losing anyone or anything.."
"Besides, I don't mean to try and fight your battles for you but.. is it really so bad to have someone at your side to help fend off whatever comes?"

"Yeah. It is if you end up getting hurt." Riyo said defensively, eyebrows furrowing.
"Look. This is gonna sound incredibly selfish of me, but whenever somebody gets hurt in my name, it just adds to this crushing weight on my shoulders. I already feel like s**t 75% of my daily life.... Please don't add to it by trying to be a hero." It sounded terrible... But with any luck it would get her point across.

Frowning at her words, Blade couldn't help but let out a sigh. He could see what she was trying to say, but he couldn't let himself give into that.
"Yes, and 75% of mine involves feeling like some worthless piece of junk that no one wants or needs," he said, almost inaudible, "For once I'd like to be able to make a difference.. I can't just stand there and watch people I care about get hurt when there's the chance I could prevent or stop it."
