満月 - mangetsu - full moon
三日月 - mikazuki - crescent moon
半月 - hangetsu - half-moon

Those are all the moon phases I know, are there more specific ones?

hmm, i don't really know moon phases very much, but i noticed wisteria darling didn't mention new moon. so i looked it up, and it's the same as crescent moon. o_O weird.

also, if you give the phases you're looking for in english, maybe you could get better help.

I was interested in this too not too long ago. I was looking for ANY words that had to do with the moon: gekkou, gakkou, tai'in...

sweatdrop oh but abot ur question... ferretclaw was right about the new moon phase alright, but I think there is one more whereas its cresented on the other side... think it was called something else. Might have been called a "gibbon" I think... confused

Waxing = 月が満ちる (tsuki ga michiru) "michiru" means "to fill".
Waning = 月が欠ける (tsuki ga kakeru) "kakeru" means "to lack/chip (off)"

"kakeru" is also used for eclipses of the moon and sun.
