In a record-shattering 24 hours, that saw a new overall lap record of 733, Scott Dixon took home the #02 Target Chip Ganassi with Felix Sabates Lexus Riley Daytona Prototype in exciting fashion and a clear racetrack ahead of him. In the pits, Chip raised both fists and 2005 IRL Champ Dan Wheldon with Casey Mears leaped over the pit wall to celebrate Dixon taking home the win. There were many close calls in the last hour, as GT cars were spinning out everywhere.

In the final 5 minutes, the #58 Red Bull-Brumos Porsche came into the pits from 3rd with technical problems, elevating the #23 Alex Job Racing Porsche into 3rd, making it the most interesting finish in Daytona Prototype history.

In the middle of the night, at one point, there were 4 DP cars on the same lap, and they were all battling for position until several had mechanical failures. The Crawford chassis teams were at a major disadvantage, as CVT joints were breaking by the axle, which basically happened to the Alex Job Porsche, and that put them down 5 laps. At one point, that #23 was 9 laps down, and finished the race 3 laps down, even though they LED LAPS after getting all of those 9 laps back originally.

This event saw many big names leave really early, including Sebastien Bourdais, Paul Tracy, Rusty Wallace with Danica Patrick behind the wheel at the time, as well as Christian Fittipaldi/Eddie Cheever/Patrick Carpentier who had their engine "dissingrate" in the car while in 4th place.
