[♔] Blindfold:

Sybil’s blindfold in the dreamscape represents his inability to find love when he’s Thomas is the waking world. No amount of yanking or scratching (and in one case burning) on his part will remove the blindfold. Not even asking other creatures in the dreamscape proved to be much help. This leaves Sybil wondering if there’s anyone in the entire place that’ll be able to remove.

In the case of his eyes being completely covered by the blindfold, Sybil isn’t blind. With his jellyfish senses, he’s highly sensitive lights and color. He discovered early one that every creature in the dreamscape has these two elements. And while all he sees is dark with floating colors in varying brightness, it’s enough that he’s able to get around fairly well.

[♔] Dreamspace: Sybil's dream space is not the deep darkness of the ocean, but instead a beautiful sandy beach. He his sheltered in a small cove that allows the sea that comes in to be smooth and unbroken by waves. Up from the reach of the water is a cozy bungalow, nestled between tall palm trees.

[♔] Personality:
Irritable / Outgoing / Kind / Pessimistic / Overbearing / Perceptive / Insecure

Thomas is nothing like a jellyfish. He’s not content to just float around through life in the vastness of the world. He has to go and do and be. Thomas prefers to keep constant, he’s very outgoing and loves to be surrounded by people. He is a natural extrovert, gaining energy by those surrounding him. That’s not to say he doesn’t like a little him time to unwind and relax once in a while. However, more often then not, he’s puttering about from friend to friend, chatting and generally making nice.

His playful nature makes working for a magazine his ideal job. As the local advice columnist, Sybil Lovelace, Thomas can give into his nosy tendencies by giving his two cents on how someone should solve their relationship woes. Granted, his opinions are gold, based heavily on his PhD in counseling psychology. As far as Thomas is concerned, helping people is the best part of the day. Even if everyone in the world thinks he’s a petite blond woman with a penchant of berry pie, he still can’t seem to find a downside to what he does for a living.

Unfortunately, Thomas’ home life wasn’t as simple as his career choice. With the death of his mother at an early age, he was left with a father who was full of rigid old world beliefs. Needless to say, the fact that Thomas was an outspoken homosexual didn’t sit well with his father. And no, Thomas didn’t have a horrible childhood with a father who tried to beat the gay out of him or forget to feed him. He merely lived in a quiet house with a quiet father. When he was old enough, Thomas left for college and hasn’t spoken to his father since.

Due to his quiet childhood, Thomas is emotionally prone to extremes. When he’s happy, he’s really happy and when he’s not, well, he usually just ends up drunk on his couch. He can be irritable about things he doesn’t want to hear and will often push his luck when it comes to convincing people to give him what he wants not matter how big he smiles at them.

[♔] Light Prompt:

The white leather love seat in the middle of Thomas' living room was purely aesthetic and not made to get drunk on. Somehow, he made it work by easing down into the crinkly fabric and staring glumly at the wall. With a bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand, he took grateful swallows of the stuff before popping pieces of expensive chocolate into his mouth. Moping over a break-up like this in a dimly lit room went against everything he’d ever told anyone about dating. He was more of the forget-about-the-b*****d type, not the let’s-get-drunk-over-a-broken-heart. Yet, here he was, already halfway through his chocolates and beer, feeling stupid and sad and alone in his own little cliché.

Sometimes he wondered if girls had it half as bad. When it was him getting dumped, it seemed like he was the only one in the entire world getting the bad end of things. It was times like this that Sybil wondered what it would be like to REALLY be his persona in the flesh and not just carry the name. And no, he wasn’t even thinking about lopping off his man bits and donning fake boobs and lipstick. That was way too far out in left field. Even for him. However, he was almost sure that every gay man thought about what it would be like to be a woman at one time or another. Thomas was convinced it was one of the rules of being gay. A fact.

Groaning, he stood, the empty bottle of alcohol tumbling from his hand and rolling across the carpet. The chocolates bounced from his lap and he ignored them in favor of stumbling over to the light switch. He nearly killed himself as he tripped over a lone shoe hiding in the dark apartment. When had nighttime shown up?

Blearily, he fumbled with the light switch, dismayed after a few up and down clicks that the lights refused to come on. So typical. This had to be the most perfect time for Thomas to sit at home, drunk and in the dark. At least his own home was sympathizing. God. Was he going to forever be screwed in love? Was it too much to ask for a little romantic love in his life?

Thomas was getting ready to plunge himself into another hour of self pity when something twinkled in the corner of his eye.

He whipped around, staring into the dark hole that was the kitchen. There was nothing--wait! Something was definitely twinkling in the vicinity of his brunch nook. Wondering what the hell it was (he was on the 12th floor, it wasn’t a burglar), he crept closer, watching as the twinkling got brighter until he thought his eyes were going to burn out of his head.

“What?” Thomas cried uncertainly, as if that would somehow dim the bright light. To his surprise, it did. Eyes watering as they adjusted to the dimness again, he thought he spied a…blob sitting on his table, pulsing with that unearthly light. He blinked again, feeling himself sober immediately when he realized it was a jellyfish thing in front of him. And it wasn’t sitting on his breakfast table either. It was floating a few inches off the surface, almost as if it were floating in water.

Thomasl shrieked like a little girl and jolted backwards, tumbling onto his butt as he watched the jellyfish with round eyes. What the hell was this? A dream? He was sure the aquatic creature wasn’t real. It had stitching! Moaning to himself, Thomas trying to scrambled to his feet, only to freeze when the jellyfish’s light went out, followed by a soft thud. It sounded like it had dropped to the table. Thomas wasn’t sure, he was too busy panicking and alternately pinching at himself to force his brain to wake up. Just in case

After that, Thomas Quinn didn’t remember much else. He was only left with the vague feeling of complete darkness and soft sand beneath his body when he woke up on his uncomfortable couch, wondering if he had really moved at all or if it was just all a dream brought on by his drunken stupor. To his dismay, the jellyfish from his dream still sat on his table when he entered the kitchen. Looking innocuous and unassuming.

Of course, Thomas knew differently.

Blind to Love

Although Sybil gives love advice to his readers, his own love life sucks. It seems that no matter what he does, he can't seem to snag a lover (male or female!) for more than a few months. In his dreamer form, he is literally blindfolded, blind to love. He somehow, instinctively, knows that the first person he sees when un-blinded in his dreamer state will be his fated love. Or at least a longer term lover.

He has no idea why he's blindfolded. He can't seem to untie the thing himself and he has yet to find anyone who would be able to do it for him. All Sybil knows is that he fumbled around like an idiot the first couple of times as he tried to get used to his new sense of sight.
Hmm...in dreamer state maybe he 'sees' like a bat with vibrations...or colors of the things around him. LIKE THE DAREDEVIL.

LOVE’S QUEST

O Love, in what hid spot do you abide?
What barrier keeps me from your fragrant side?
If I but knew wherein you are concealed,
I’d hasten now to have my soul revealed.

The years roll on , the seasons come and go,
I search for you in places high and low,
If I but knew in what lone haunts you rest,
I’d hasten now to be your humble guest.

Day after day I look for you in vain,
Your absence fills my lonely heart with pain;
If I but knew your secret hiding place,
I’d hasten now to see and kiss your face.

But still my quest for you shall never cease,
For without you my heart can know no peace;
And when I find you, let this truth be known:
None else but you will I have for my own.

Sybil's personality stays the same. He basically just switches bodies. However, he does gain more confidence concerning a few things (elaborate) when he's in the dream state. It's like putting on a costume. No one really knows who he is. Not even his gender.

Sybil Lovelace is a state of being. Not just a muse or some kind of messed up persona. Thomas doesn't just use the name Sybil, he IS Sybil and channels her confidence in romance accordingly.
