Thaliat Everwood Maybe Paolini finds writing his ending book to be a difficult thing because he's been working with his characters for years...and it can be tough to say farewell to them. Hence, procrastination and/or avoidance. He'll finish eventually, though we may not like having to wait. That's pretty much exactly why I was thinking avoidance. Thaliat Everwood Funny, but I can't wait to write my ending chapter to my first novel. Not sure about the ending to the last book, that might be harder... And I guess the reasoning behind that is that...with the first book, it's more a beginning than an ending. You know there's a lot more to go, but you've hit a big milestone (and you've proven that you can do it). By the time it comes around to the last one, it's like the end of an era. Standing at the edge of a cliff with all these attachments and no further to go unless you leave everything behind and start again. Excuse the tarot imagery and metaphors...

I get that it's hard to write a definitive ending to a story. You have to let go of all your characters, take a deep breath and tell yourself that it's the end and that once it'd done, there's no going back. I get that, but if you're going to spend two or three years procrastinating, you could at least have the decency to tell your legion of adoring, patient fans.
Yes, I am upset. :c

Yeah, it's like this fanfic idea I've got, and i keep coming up with more and more stuff that can happen to the characters as they get older, I don't wanna stop...

The thing is, that's a great idea, and you can still write it all down. It'll help you develop your characters. But you might not want to post/submit/publish it all, just for the sake of a good story, you know? My personal opinion, though. <: I do like over-developing my characters, though, so.

NEW DEVELOPMENT!
Alagaesia Newsletter Book Four is still in progress. As usual, each plot point seems to expand as I write it, but I think when you read it you'll agree that the story was worth the wait. I just finished a scene that included a stone table, a brazier filled with glowing coals, a man with impeccably groomed fingernails, and a black cloak. I don't know about you, but that makes me a very happy fan. Just because we've now got actual word on the writing process, for once. I am very, very happy.
