Today in my band class, we had mock elections~! We voted on people for probably about 10 different things, but i didn't win anything so yeah.
Anybody else do these?

We don't have elections. The BD ultimately decides on everything. However, anyone who tried out for drum major or a captain position has to play River of Life with the entire symphonic band so the BD can get a feel for the reactions of the students.

Ah, yes.
Drum major~try outs with the BD, then directs the band on a few pieces. Ultimately the BD's choice.
Band Council~give a short blurb, then votes are cast.
I'm the secretary of band council probably because I'm a get-err-done control freak, however dyslexic I am.
Some saxophone, right after my little ramble, said something along the lines of: "I know I may not one of the popular kids (looks over at me) but I'd still make an excellent candidate..."
Which is kind of hilarious, because I'm only "popular" in band because I'm a mother hen/mama bear and bake cookies for everyone on Fridays.

sorta...DM is all the BD's choice (with some input from the guard coach who's been there longer than he has and is almost like an assistant BD) but for band council, theres a whole crazy process. first an essay to see who's interested, and who can get stuff done then the whole band votes for about 10 people who they think they could follow as a leader. then those people that get enough votes have to interview a leader-type person, like a teacher, or the vice-principal or someone, THEN they have to be interviewed by the BD, guard coach, a band parent who's been there for FOREVER (almost literally), and i think the previous years DM and band council president? (don't quote me on that last part haha) but any other positions like SL are BD's choice too. although, when the band votes for band council they also vote for stuff like best first-year band member, best four-year, most improved, that kind of stuff, as well as the fun-type ones like "mr. and mrs. sunshine" and "most huggable" and "biggest band geek" smile

Yeah our BD has us vote on a number of things actually. We vote for class representatives, historians, librarians, and stuff like that. He also has us have our say on what he should use the program's money for.

idk about other bands, but our band council basically helps the bd with everything, from planning events, to staying after band parties to clean up. they have more power than section leaders (but over the band in general instead of just one section.) when my school got a new band director like 6 years ago, the band council ran the band for the first 1/2 year with the new, and current, BD
oh and they get spiffy band shirts. (they're collared and have the person's name stitched in them, and the fabric is nice apparently. some people literally say that the best part of band council is the shirts. i guess sometimes it sucks haha)
