Something I did a couple of days ago, thought I could post it here too as the guild seems to be alive once again ^^.

Ladies and Gents, a Disturbing Portrait
Lineart: OpenCanvas, colours razz hotoshop

I think her hand(s) still seems slightly too big, but I toyed with it quite a long time in PS, and that was the size I found best -- I think big hands look always better than way too small ones.

And this is the original sketch to it, done in OpenCanvas:

Honestly, I think It'd look better without the hand. Without the hand it looks like she just has her hands in her lap.
The finished product looks pretty nice though.

An interesting note, and something I hadn't thought about at all. Then again, when somebody skips drawing hands because they're "behind the back" or in this case "in the lap", I just get the impression that the person is too lazy to draw hands (or can't draw them at all).

Like "too big hands>too small hands" there's also "bad hands>no hands".

That's a good point. There's no point not having hands when you have an opportunity to draw them, as hands are hard for most people to draw and you can only get better by practising.

I really like the finished piece, that orange outline gives her a very, magical and powerful effect. As if she's emitting some kind of light or aura. I think the hand looks fine as it seems more like she's been foreshortened and her hand is closer, thus it is bigger than her body which is further back.

Very cute face, and nice hair you've drawn there. biggrin

Her hand don't look to big to me. They look like they are closer to the foreground and her face is farther away, thats all. I like it. heart

The hands look fine to me. No matter how hard I try, the thumbs always end up being on the wrong side of the hands when I draw. I'll just tell people birth defects are in this year. sweatdrop

It does look like a great sketch. I love the foreshortening of the hands. The way you did the fabric around is amazing. I really like it.

You used Opencanvas, nothing there is amazing. You used a pre-set line texture and call it your own. What happens when the computer breaks and your deadline is tomorrow?

The computer is a tool, it's not supposed to do all the work.

Yes her hand is too big.... however judging from the absolutely beautiful way you coloured it with patterns and textures, I'm going to say that it doesn't matter.

Good job! Keep it up! domokun domokun
