On the plus side, Harbaugh was able to turn a 1-11 Stanford franchise around in just 4 years, leading them to their first 12-1 regular season winning record and bowl championship. Something the organization hope he can do with the 6-10 franchise which had high hopes of winning the division this year.
Also one of the two major issues the 49ers face is at QB which Harbaugh, being a former NFL Quarterback, Quarterback coach, and developing Andrew Luck as one of Colleges top QB's makes him a great coach to try and fix that problem. He also follows the tradition of Stanford coaches to the 49ers following his former mentor Bill Walsh.
On the negative side though, even though he has 15 years of experience as a QB in the NFL he only has 2 years of experience as an assistant coach in the NFL as the QB coach for the Oakland Raiders. He might be able to make the transition from college coach to NFL coach, but the lack of experience coaching in the NFL will make it a challenge.
Overall as a fan of the 49ers I'm excited to have Harbaugh come in. Was he my first choice to replace Singletary? No. But still a candidate I would have been happy with if the 49ers would have hired him. Now we'll have to wait and see if he can turn this franchise around and get them back into the playoffs.
Side Note: Next season the NFC West will be taking on the AFC North in regular season play, meaning that Jim will be coaching against his older brother and head coach of the Baltimore Ravens John Harbaugh.

I was watching the press conference. on CSN Bay Area...
And... Omg... I fell in love with Harbaugh. He might not be a great coach... But they way he does it.... So refreshing. Totally different from Singletary.
