So in the past couple of weeks i noticed that my jaw was popping... only on the one side. I noticed recently that I only chew on the right side of my jaw, but I think the excessive christmas eating really did my jaw in. Today it was starting to even hurt when I ate, so I looked up what a popping jaw could mean. It said that i've overstrained the tendons in the one side of my jaw, or It may possibly have slipped out temporarily. So right now I'm backing off on the whole chewy food department. no gum, no tough meats, etc. But even today when I ate ice cream it still had that popping sensation and I was not even using my teeth. T__T So I don't know what to do now... if I should see a doctor on campus about it or if I should wait it out a few days and let it relax suggestions?

I had TMJ once. It was absolutely excruciating but I didn't have insurance so I wanted to wait. It went away after about a week. I just avoided anything too chewy and when I could I very slowly opened and closed it while massaging the joint. It seemed to help. That and ibuprofen (not aspirin) to help with the swelling really helped to the edge off.
