Yesterday there was a shooting in Omaha, Nebraska at Millard South High School. A child who transfered in only a couple of months ago, the son of an Omaha police officer, took his father's gun to school during the lunch hour and shot the principal and the assistant principal.
Dr. Kaspar, the assistant principal, died last night. Today would have been her fifty-ninth birthday.
I graduated from South in '08, and while I did not know Drs. Case and Kaspar very well (I am not the type of girl to be called to the office, and when I volunteered for the school, I helped out in the guidance counselor's office rather than the main office), a lot my friends and old classmates are extremely upset.
I was in the car when Dr. Kaspar's death was announced and had just made a stupid and pointless Facebook status while a lot of people wrote touching messages to her and people affected by her death. After half an hour of arguing with myself, I wrote a message I didn't really mean just so I wouldn't look so careless.
Now I feel like a bad person.
