where our directors decide who will be in the upper and lower bands. I was sooo nervous because, well honestly, I get nervous before everything. I was so worried after I auditioned because I did terrible and I thought I was going to get like 3rd chair or something. But when I went and looked, I got first chair in the top band!! I beat my friend who had been 1st chair all year so far since I had been colorguard captain. We're both really good friends so we were both going to be happy no matter who got first, but I was so shocked that I got it because I thought I did terrible. I'm so excited!!!! I just hope I don't screw up!! mrgreen

Congrats!
I have had a few similar expperiences, actually. I'm horrible with auditions. I can do solos in front of large groups, but I can't do anythign in front of a small group, like 1-4 people. I don't know why smaller groups freak me out.
Last eyar at regionals, i beat everyone in my section, even my section leader. I thoguht i had done horribly.
I got section elader last year over 4 other clarinets.

ClarinetGoddess Congrats! I have had a few similar expperiences, actually. I'm horrible with auditions. I can do solos in front of large groups, but I can't do anythign in front of a small group, like 1-4 people. I don't know why smaller groups freak me out. Last eyar at regionals, i beat everyone in my section, even my section leader. I thoguht i had done horribly. I got section elader last year over 4 other clarinets. Oh wow, congrats. Ya we have 11 flutes, which from what I hear is a really mall section but for my school its pretty big. Last year I tried out for region and made it, and my friend (the one I mentioned) didn't make it, but when we had our auditions for the different bands she made it ahead of me. But this year it was totally flip floped. Lol.

I know what you mean I think its because you know all these people and for me i know they can all read music haha so i panic

Something similar happened to me; I ended up getting second chair this year! But then my friend challenged me and beat me. We're planning on annoying the director by doing back-and-forth challenges. xP

I had a semi-similar experience today too. We had a test today.
And whenever we have tests we always
have to play in front of everyone. And the room is right
next to like math classes and stuff, so if you
mess up, you can hear the immature laughter,
the comments, and the
"Dang! Where is that s**t coming from?"
from the other room...
I messed up a bunch of times.

sweatdrop I got a C EDIT: P.s Congrats! Oh wow thats crazy!! Our school is split up to where one half of the school is the academic half and the other is cafeteria/theatre arts. And ya I know what you mean about playing in front of people, I took an applied music class last year that my jazz teacher offered and our little project at the end was to choose a jazz standard and work it up with the people he placed you with. Now me, playing flute and had been in jazz band for 2 years on flute but not really playing much didn't really know what to do. I really freaked out when he said each person in the group was going to have to improv,..it was sooo scary!! lol

But when they do let us do that they'll only let you challenge once and only one chair above you.
