When Shannah stepped onto the packlands, her hopes weren't high. She and Peregrine had tried a couple of places already, and she had not been accepted. Peri had been forced to return home, too, so she was on her own.
Well, not completely alone. She was, unbeknownst to her, pregnant. It wasn't a very good outlook if she was rejected here. She would try her best to make a good impression.
It was, however, difficult for the young, impulsive female to decide where the balance should be between confidence and submission.

With so many of the pack gone for the training hunt Ki-adi had somehow found herself doing one of the boarder patrols...it was not a duty she relished and the odds were good that upon meeting someone who looked even remotely dangerous she'd go sprinting back to Terreis screaming bloody murder before even stopping to ask questions first.

A guard wolf Ki-adi was not..and yet sometimes one had to do thing they weren't the best suited too and she was determined to buck up and do her duty. Sort of. mostly she just slunk along praying to whomever would listen that she wouldn't run into anyone she didn't know.

Apparantly they didn't listen because as she slunk along the boarders the pale hide of an unknown wolf made its appearance. Oh no..oh no..oh no..oh no! What was she going to do?!? At least it was a female..that made things a little bit better and still hiding out in the bushes she managed to croak out a frightened sounding "H...hello?"

Well, this one didn't sound inclined to bite her head off. That was encouraging. "Umm...hi," Shannah said pleasantly to the disembodied voice-from-somewhere, hoping she could soothe the other wolf's fears. She wondered what to say next, since most attempts hadn't been well-received. She decided to cut to the chase so she could get it over with if she was going to be rejected again. "I was wondering if this pack had room for one more."

Oh well..she certainly didn't sound like a threat..and certainly she wouldn't be asking so nicely if the pack had room should she be here for malicious reasons right? Ki-adi wasn't precisely sure but it wounded like decent reasoning to her and while the rest of the pack was away she supposed it was up to her to uphold their traditions.

Crawling out from under the bushes she'd been hiding in Ki gave a shake of her brightly colored pelt before nodding a proper greeting to the pale colored wolf. "YMCA is open to all wolves who desire a safe place to stay" She told her- and she thought that sounded like something Chivosi would say "We are a sanctuary for those without a place to go or those who simply wish to rest a while - all are welcome as long as they don't cause trouble and help the pack while they are here"

Shannah broke into a huge smile at that. Success! "Thank you very much," she told the wolf that looked to her like a pristine beach. "That's awesome. I can't tell you how much I've been missing having a real home." She nodded in reply to the greeting. "As far as helping out, what do you need? Maybe there's a spot for me to really help out."

She felt very cheered. Finally, a new place to stay! She hoped that the other members would be as kind, but from what the female had said, it should be a safe enough place. "Oops," she caught herself, realizing that she had neither found nor given names. "I'm Shannah. You?"

Well she seemed eager to help which Ki thought was a pretty good sign of things to come, or at least of her temperament. "Most of the pack has left for one last training hunt with the teens, but most of the duties include things like boarder patrols or hunting..sometimes watching over pups if theres a needs. Chivosi - our alpah - will likely accept anything you wish to contribute while your here..she's a very kind wolf" Ki-adi assured the other.

She knew the feeling of missing a real home - not that she'd ever really had one until she'd come to live here but she had dreamed of it before then and wished for it. Realizing that she was starting to daydream and Shannah had gone and introduced herself Ki-adi brought herself back to the present "Ki-Adi" she introduced herself before motioning back along the trail towards the more central pack lands "Would you like to see the dens and main pack grounds?"

"Yeah, sure! That'd be awesome!" Being impulsive as she was, she nearly ran off without Ki-Adi but quickly realized her mistake. "Whoops, I'm sorry!" Shannah grinned apologetically and took a place by her new friend's shoulder.

"So, uh, what brought you here? My family kinda dumped me when the pack split. I still can't figure out why."

She was definitely...enthusiastic Ki-adi decided as the younger wolf ran ahead and then turned back around again, though her questions made her dock her ears a bit, the first response which rose to mind was 'why? does it matter? are you looking for me?!?' ...but all that paranoia, as instinctive as it still was - seemed a little bit silly after she had spent this amount of time in the pack - surely anyone looking for her would have arrived by now right?

Still..she did hardly know this wolf and she wasn't inclined to spill her entire life story right off the bat - though she didn't want to be rude and not answer either "I uh...was just looking for a safe place to stay" She responded in her typical meek and quiet voice.

"Oh, um...okay..." She thought that seemed a little evasive, but she shrugged it off. She'd find out later. In any case...there was stuff to see!

Ki-adi winced slightly at the other wolfs response - it was pretty clear that she was aware Adi was hiding something - but really it was hard enough to talk about her past with wolves she knew..let alone one she'd jut met!

She decided that there wasn't much she could do to improve the other wolves view of her and it was likely better to just..move on with what they were doing. They followed a well traveled path back to the den site where Adi pointed out the various dens, showed her the river the herb supply area where they stored healing herbs and other such things that she felt might be important for a new wolf to know "As I said..most of the pack is away on a hunt at the moment but they should be back in a day or so so that you can meet them all"

"I hope they don't mind suddenly coming home to a stranger," Shannah mumbled. She turned to Ki-Adi. "Nice place here. I like it." She suddenly felt very tired. Maybe it was an adrenaline crash, or maybe it was fear of meeting the rest of the pack, and what they would think... but whatever it was, she really wanted to find a place to bed down. She hid it as well as she could until the end of the tour, both to be polite and because she was enjoying finding out about her new home...

Once it was over, though...
"May I please go to bed now?" she asked politely. "I'm about 300 kinds of bushed."
