Summary of Personality/backstory/etc: Jien is a good man at his core. Outwardly he's an a*****e. Rude, to the point and often borderline cruel. Inwardly he's only trying to protect himself from being hurt again. His father [a noct] tried to do his best by him after Jien's mother disappeared. Jien's step-mother was a cruel and hateful woman. Angry that she couldn't have children of her own she took it out on Jien, beating him mercilessly. Once she beat him so badly that the bones in his arm shattered and it had to be amputated above the elbow. His string of bad luck with women has continued into his adult life.
