Jacob had to admit that he was nervous. It was an altogether new sensation to him. One that he was not at all fond of. Worse, it was brought on by a woman. Kisa to be exact. She had left him a note early that morning telling him they needed to talk. He had spent all day trying to think of what she could mean. By now he was worried, annoyed and most definitely pissed. He couldn't believe that she had this effect on him, even after all the time they had been together. Kisa was a very special breed of woman indeed.
He looked to his feet and cursed as he realized he was starting to wear a path in the floor.

Kisa had spent most of the day wondering how to put her condition into words. She had even called her younger sister; surely the woman would know what to say? But Risa's only advice had been to be honest with Jacob. Honest? He was going to be furious. Kisa knew better than anyone that her mate didn't want children. She explained this to Risa, and her younger sister's useless advice came again.
"Be honest with him. He sounds like Matthias was before Loki and Milo were born. And, Kisa? I told you so."
Kisa was fuming by the time she'd hung up the phone. She stormed back to the house and threw the door open as she walked inside. Seeing Jacob seemed to calm her. "Jacob," she said hesitantly. "We should make the spare room up... in bright colors."

He scowled, not sure what part of that greeting annoyed him more. "Shall I go in order? There is nothing in this world that would convince me to paint any room of this house in a bright color." He paused to gather his breath and try to bite back the threat of his temper erupting. He had been so worried about that damn note, and yet in that simple sentence she had chastised him for worrying over nothing and sent him into an even worse panic. What the hell was she playing at with that comment about the spare room. "I thought you had something important to discuss with me? Or has your vanity gone to your head so much that you've become convinced that home decorating is important." Even as he spoke, he grew ashamed of taking that tone with her. "And the first thing out of your mouth should have been 'Hello' or something of that kind. Which reminds me....hello my love."

Kisa sighed, she should have known Jacob would take it this way. "Nothing in this world," she echoed. "I see." She paused, and looked at her feet. He was angry with her. "Hello love," she mumbled. "It is important," she added, a glint in her eyes warning him not to say more.
She folded her hands in front of her, and studied him with steely gray eyes. "I'm going to have a baby," she told him, mentally preparing herself for his reaction. It certainly wouldn't be good, if his reaction to decorating the house had been to become angry. "I thought a bright color would suit best, but if you object--babies have poor senses, I suppose they wouldn't care what color their room was if we asked them."

He scowled some more and tapped his foot. He had seen that warning glare and knew better than to keep complaining. Instead he waited- impatiently –for her to continue. What she said next however was something he had not yet considered. Of course they had mentioned children before, but only in the briefest sense. It was something he had not yet come to a decision on. He looked her over, stone silent and chewing on his lip. It wasn’t a good sign as far as his temper went. It usually meant he was about to lose it and storm out. Or blow something up. The second was far more likely. In a very calm and cold voice he started to speak. “A child?” He paused and inspected his nails, more to find something to focus on other than Kisa. “Embryo’s are parasites that feed on the life of their host until they are large enough and strong enough to rip their way free of the host. It would destroy your perfect body and thus render your little game at its end. Something I can’t see you allowing to happen. Are you sure that you’re…..pregnant?” The last word was practically whispered. To be honest the idea was beginning to grow on him. The raw brutality of it all and the knowledge of how much pain and discomfort that a pregnancy brought about thrilled him.

Kisa glared at her mate. Parasites? How dare he insult the child or children within her? How dare he? She crossed her arms and looked away from him. She briefly considered going to stay with Risa for a while, if Jacob was so against having children. Risa definitely needed someone to care for her while she was pregnant, anyway, and it would give her a chance to torment her younger sister's mate.
"I'm sure," she said huffily. "Children would not ruin my ability to feed," she added angrily. "Are you so stupid? I wouldn't have allowed it to happen if there were any chance of that happening." She didn't care how angry he was; the fact that she was pregnant remained. And if he didn't want the babies, she would keep them. She would raise them alone, if she had to.

Jacob sighed and reached out to pull her into his chest. He took a deep breath and did his best not to roll his eyes. He wasn't sure what he had said to upset her, but it was best to start damage control before things got to bad. "I'm not sure how I feel just yet. I wasn't expecting this so soon." He sighed and stayed quiet for a bit, simply petting her hair. "And there's really no need to get so testy. I was making observations." He pushed her away to get a good look at her face and smiled. "I'm happy darling. Its my place to worry about the effect that this will have." He smirked and tilted his head to the side. "However, this still doesn't change the fact that I will not use bright colors. A subtle deep blue or red should serve just fine."

Kisa stared. Was her mate bipolar? First he seemed angry, and now he was hugging her? How strange. She would have to ask Risa if this was normal male behavior. She leaned against him and allowed him to stroke her hair. Men. Honestly, this behavior was why she fed off their souls. They were so--complicated.
"Happy?" she repeated, staring up at him. That was definitely a twist. He hadn't been happy just a few-- Kisa frowned in confusion, before leaning on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. "I love you," she said, putting a hand to his cheek. "I was hoping you'd be pleased."

Maybe he was a little bipolar. His grin grew as he considered all the prospective little study opportunities this would provide. And if the child was male....a strong young man to take his place and continue his work. "I love you as well." He watched her closely. This would be a good thing, he was sure of this. "Pregnant.....how.....wonderful." Yes, he was bipolar. But that was just fine.

Kisa stared, wide eyed. First he was upset, now he was happy? "You're...happy?" she asked in disbelief. This wasn't the reaction she'd expected at all. She was relieved, yes, but--
It wasn't like her husband at all. She smiled, revealing her fangs. "Wonderful?" she repeated, leaning up to kiss his cheek. "We're going to have children, Jacob." He was definitely bipolar, but then, so was she.

"Yes happy. While I may hate you with every fiber of my being and then some....you are my mate and my wife. I love you as much as I hate you. And a family is just the next step." He stopped and smirked to himself. "And it would prove to that annoying sister of yours and her moron husband that anyone can have one." He really couldn't stand the two of them, and any little victory was worth it. He glanced down to her stomach. "And now I have a whole new set of experiments to try out."
