I WANT TO RIDE A DRAGON!

Rider's Name: A'rose (formerly Ambrose)
Rider's Age: 30
Rider's Sex: Male
Rider's Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Rider's Secondary Craft: N/A
Personality:

A'rose is one of those people whose happiest around other people. He likes to talk and joke and his goal is usually to amuse other people involved in the conversation more than himself. To him there's nothing better than earning a smile or a laugh from someone. Making a flower blossom appear from behind a little girl's ear to make her smile is something he delights in doing. An entertainer at heart A'rose likes to be the center of attention though he at least offers a reason for people to notice him.

With friends A'rose mostly likes to tell jokes and do tricks personalized for them. He listens to their problems when they confide in him though he doesn't always take them as seriously as some might like. Though loyal to friends and somewhat generous with his time A'rose does not share possessions, food or marks with his fellows to the point of appearing outright stingy. Strangers to him are just friends waiting to happen and A'rose is always on the lookout for new people to meet and entertain. Feasts and gathers are great times to make new connections or admirers and A'rose tries to attend as many as he can.

While he respects those who have authority over him A'rose has no particular care for hierarchy. He understands that the current wingleaders got where they are for a reason but they're still mostly just people to him; he likes or dislikes each one on their own merit.

For a man of thirty turns A'rose doesn't usually act it. He prefers the company of weyrbrats as well as younger candidates and riders. Older people are more stuck in their ways as far as he's concerned. It is the young who still remember what it's like to wonder at the world and live for the sake of living. A'rose prefers the company of those who can indulge and enjoy themselves without questioning things too much. He also finds the young have more time to watch and appreciate magic tricks which is important as he's nothing without an audience.

Patrol reports from A'rose often come complete with doodles in the margins because he got bored writing them. He also has a collection of toys to shame most Lord Holders children. It is not uncommon for A'rose to be practicing some form of slight of hand to entertain himself or the person he's talking to even when it's not the best time. A'rose is not incompetent or unreliable but he is decidedly still immature. Outwardly he is a man but internally A'rose is still a grinning bright eyed boy.

While the dragon he rides may have a less than stellar memory A'rose more than makes up for it. He remembers almost everything he's ever seen or heard incredibly clearly. From magic tricks and lesson songs to lovers erogenous zones A'rose learns something and it sticks with him forever. Of course memorization does not always equal comprehension. Just because he can parrot something back to you doesn't mean he fully understands it. Rereading and discussing intellectual concepts fully is still necessary for A'rose to truly get them. Whereas things of a more physical or purely visual nature are understood faster.

Flight patterns, patrol routes and instructions stick with A'rose and he can carry out his wingrider duties with little need for reminders or assistance. He also remembers when each of the greens he knows last rose and can calculate their next scheduled flight with decent accuracy which he takes advantage of whenever possible.

A'rose is an undeniably greedy and indulgent man. Oh sure he performs magic to make you happy, he wants to see you smile or laugh but that's the one freebie the world gets from him. Though there's nothing he really needs to buy A'rose craves marks and takes on many extra errands so he can acquire more currency. Once enough money is amassed A'rose then spends it on silly trinkets, clothes and little toys that fascinate or amuse him just so that he can have things. No man needs half a dozen rolling and walking toy dragons & runners but A'rose has purchased them anyways and displays them proudly.

After a childhood marked by near poverty A'rose is determined to have everything he now wants or once wanted. He eats more than he should especially things like sweetrolls which has lead to his current paunch. Marks are spent on toys and clothes he doesn't need but wants and he even recently commissioned a particularly fancy set of riding straps that his dragon has never worn. In a way A'rose has less money now than he ever did as a child as he seems determined to spend it all and fill his life with stuff.

Lovers are also things A'rose acquires, he genuinely cares about each person be they fellow rider, cavern worker or a force hold fling. He has no commitment to any of them but he strives to make sure they enjoy their time with him while he himself gets the pleasure he desires.

Virtues: Charismatic, friendly, excellent memory
Flaws: Greedy, immature, indulgent
History:

Ambrose was born and raised in Force Hold. He was reared by his single mother who was a prostitute by trade. They lived in a small home with a single bedroom for them to share and a second room for " business." Childhood was odd for Ambrose, the family always had enough to eat regularly and he always had decent clothes on his back but there were times when they suddenly became wealthy, at least by his standards anyways. Of course those times when someone rich took a shine to his mother were also the times when he saw the least of her, being shooed out of the house or not having her return home until well past when he'd gone to bed. It was hard for Ambrose to reconcile that suddenly getting dessert every night often meant not getting a bedtime story or spending a rainy day at a friend's home instead of his own.

As he aged Ambrose began to better understand where he actually stood economically and the fact that while he never starved or froze his family was not well off, that he was denied many splendors most children took for granted. His few old toys or occasional new pair of shoes were suddenly viewed in a very different light.

Ambrose remembers parts of growing up that he loathed and parts of it that he cherished. In comparison to other hold born people he feels like his life was unfair but he is positive it is better than being been weyr raised.

As he grew Ambrose developed a keen interest in the performance of slight of hand tricks. He and his friends often watched performers out on the outskirts of the hold and on occasion fell victim to those offering games of chance in the form of tricks before they grew wise to the con. With no clear ambitions but knowing he loved when he made his friends smile or laugh Ambrose decided to try his hand at this sort of unofficial craft. He dabbled in juggling, card tricks and what was referred to as vanishing magic. Some of it was trial and error based on observations of past performances and some came from lessons he earned by playing errand boy and assistant for older magicians.

What started as a fun thing to waste childhood hours in turned slowly into a planned future for Ambrose. He didn't see himself as a merchant, had no interest in any crafts and while he enjoyed a good lay wasn't inclined to turn sex into a living as his mother had. While he'd seen and done small tricks for the odd search dragon he encountered none of them had seemed interested in Ambrose so dragonrider wasn't even a job on his radar screen.

Ambrose was sixteen when he started actually earning money though not nearly enough to live on. With his friend Mishka, who had a small amount of musical talent and a particularly smart firelizard, Ambrose created a little musical magic show to try and compete with all the entertainment Force Hold already offered. They were nobody special and never made much per show but for Ambrose life was good. When people stopped to watch them he did his best to make sure they left with smiles. His mother did not seem convinced this would be a career he could survive on as an adult but did little to stop him.

Not inclined to give up on work he actually enjoyed doing Ambrose made plans to make the show bigger and better so that he never had to give it up for a more normal job. In his mind there was surely room for one more successful show if they just found a way to be unique. Things got better as time passed but the trio was nowhere near making it big.

Ambrose was eighteen when he attended his first hatching. He was currently having fling with a dragonrider who'd invited him to attend as his guest. In between watching each egg hatch, which he found to be amazing, Ambrose did little card tricks to entertain his current lover. Though he enjoyed watching both candidates and dragons scramble about on the sands Ambrose was a little jealous of them. No matter how much money he earned or how many people he made smile, nothing could affect the fact that he was sure he couldn't have a dragon. Dragons were one of the few things truly unobtainable to him and they didn't even care that he was poor!

Ambrose had been affectionately rubbing a thumb on one of of his lover's palms when he heard a voice in his mind. Before he could even register being shocked strange thoughts and feelings, mostly hunger, flowed to him. It took a moment for him to realize what had happened and even as he began to glee over the unthinkable happening Ambrose was on the move trying to make his way to the dragonet.

Ambrose became A'rose and he's spent the last twelve years trying to really find his place at the Weyr. While he jumped right into the idea of being a rider he struggled through an extended weyrlinghood due to needing more time to adjust to the truth of what responsibilities and expectations were now being placed on him. By this point in time he's proved himself capable of being reliable and acting within expected safe standards even if he retains some childish tendencies and thoughts.

Appearance: A'rose is a fairly average looking man. He stands a simple 5'8 and sports a thick frame with a bit of a paunch. His complexion is dusky and darkens when he gets a lot of sunlight. Dark green eyes sit above a fat little button nose and full lips. A'rose has short and curly light brown hair that looks somewhere between cute bedhead and like someone at least tried to finger comb it.

Outside of his uniform A'rose prefers to wear clothing that makes him stand out. Of course he has to modify it so he can store an assortment of things in his sleeves and pockets.
Dragon Color Preference: Any color

It was not unusual to here the echo of a person's footsteps before they entered a room due to the nature of the weyr, it was not however common to hear what sounded like a stampede of herdbeasts. Although in this case the sound at least warned people nearby to stick to the sides of the halls. Gideoth was running full pelt down them, the chunky blue's eyes whirred a bright blue-green and he gave a cheerfull little whistle to anyone he passed.

I'm going to win! He declared before barreling into the weyrling barracks. It wasn't that Gideoth was feeling competitive so much that he had seen His racing other boys earlier and well he'd wanted to play too. They wouldn't let him join though and so he'd started his own race on the way back to the barracks.

Omizeth! Upon spotting the the green Gideoth lumbered towards her while attempting to slow down. Given his current size, speed and disproportionate hind end this ended with him tripping himself up and tumbling past Omizeth and into the green's bedding. unashamed and bothered by this the blue let out a sort of draconic laugh.

E'zen appeared a moment later, face red and chest rising and falling rapidly as the boy struggled to catch his breath. His lips were pulled back in a slight frown at the sight of his fallen dragonet but merriment danced in his grey eyes. he could feel Gideoth's glee and that was hard to deny, even if he had a feeling that T'lus was not going to appreciate his dragon in Omizeth's bedding.
