"Mickey will drive a SteamCar before you know it." She turned and flopped down on the cart, legs hanging over the edge. "I kind of want to drive one, even though I've seen the destruction first hand. All that hollering and calling, he makes it look fun. And they do go fast..." She huffed a little in thought. "Not as fast as the cars you have on the mainland, but faster than most things here on Orai."

Jen grinned. "So you moved out where the cars don't go, huh Isto? Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life." He sat down on the cart opposite Luna so that the contraption wouldn't tip. "Can't say that I blame you. If the fastest thing you have here on the island can crash and have the driver still be okay... he is okay right?"

"Yep."

"Still be okay, then that's a safer place for kids than the mainland." He pronounced 'mainland' the same way that Luna had, as if it were two separate words only slightly apart. "It makes me feel better that Leese won't be able to get herself run over, because I'm sure that Keera wouldn't be far behind." He sighed and then turned to Isto. "It's Keppit's greatest wish, that I would have to put up with a child as ridiculous as I was... jokes on me though, cause there's two of them." He laughed.

For a brief moment, Isto looked utterly miserable. "Jen... I miss my bike... You wouldn't believe how much I miss my bike." And he grinned. "I can't let myself near the SteamCars, I feel like I'm being unfaithful. Sure, they look fun," he agreed with a laugh for Luna. "But I'd break my poor bike's heart if I looked twice at one." He winked, and lowered his voice. "Between you and me... I've been working on a project of my own that'll have old Gats sobbing in defeat by the time I'm done. But you'll just have to wait and see."

Delia returned at that moment with the fourth of Jen's children in her arms, chatting amiably with the little Cole and generally describing the dock's description to the boy. Dan, only steps behind, continued around the group to deposit the latest trunk on the Mute's cart as Delia introduced his son to the group. "And now we're on the dock itself--can't you tell? It doesn't sway so much. And here's your Daddy and Uncle Isto, and our friend Luna." Cole was still bleary-eyed from his nap, but was sitting snuggled against Delia with a pleased little smile on his lips. For a brief moment, his unseeing-eyes settled just to the left of Luna's head, then shot sideways to stare in Jen's general direction. Cole's eyes may have failed him, but his fuzzy ears missed very little. "Dahdy! Feel be'dda?"

"Yeah, I'm good Kiddo. It's like Delia says, It's better here on the docks than on the ship." He didn't get up, he knew that Delia had a good handle on Cole, and he was sure that Cole didn't mind.

Luna just rolled her eyes and moved off the cart so that Dan could pile the last of the bags onto it. "That's why we need you Edvarnis... cause you have sleeves... metaphorically of course. Gats never even dreamed of steam vehicles until you got Mickey all excited about transportation." She paced around so she could get a better look at Cole. "And it's probably good for all your kids to... to be here on the island." She was about to say 'to see the island'... "Because aside from Tourma, they're all Orai base gen ettics." She rolled her hands as she spoke, sounding more like she was repeating something she'd heard someone else say and didn't quite understand herself. "Herit age, and gen ettics go hand in hand, I'm told." Then she shrugged again. "Have fun on your trip back to the house, just turn Payton back when you don't need his help anymore.

With a wave, she trotted back up the gangplank, avoiding the Mutes still working, and disappearing down in the depths of the Kestrel.

Jen watched. "I didn't expect Luna to meet us at the docks, but I'm certainly glad to see another familiar face."

"Luna's a bright one," Isto mused aloud as the young woman left the docks. "She's been a big help to us here... A big help." He sobered briefly at some personal thought, then fixed a grin on his face. "Is that all of the luggage, Danton? Then let's get off these docks. Come on, Payton, was it? Follow me, please." He offered the Mute a smile, then turned and headed from the docks, speaking over his shoulder to Dan and Jen as he walked.

"I've gotten permission for you lot to have one of the Partments near ours while you're here. But you're more than welcome to stay with us, too, if you'd rather. We've got the space. The Committee does like to keep track of where everyone is, but a good half of the rooms on the island are empty at any given time, so it's easy enough to get pretty choice lodgings if you press for them." The casual manner in which he dismissed all those empty rooms, likely all Smog victims, was perhaps a bit heartless. But the empty Partments were a fact of life, and the Smog had been dealt with. Life could, and did, go on.
