Freshmen fun day is where the seniors and student leaders wake up very early in the morning, and kidnap all freshmen and newcomers to the marching band. (If you're just doing orchesrtra, we'll kidnap newcomers to that as well.)
They'll take the freshies out somewhere, most likely a park, and basically mildly torture and humiliate them.
Things they can and will do:
~Cover freshies heads with decorated brown bag and blindfold them
~Dress them up in rediculous costumes
~Give them a stupid catch phrase (i.e. "I eat rainbows and poop butterflies!", "Leroy Jenkins!" "My hat is awesome!") that they must repeat later
~Make them go through either an invisible obsticle course or an actual one, still blindfolded and/or wearing their "hat"
~Put whipped cream on their hands, make them hold hands, and go through said obsticle course
~Make them sit in a circle and introduce themselves one by one, then make them say their catch phrase
~Make them run a mile
~Make them march in a block to a song with either a really fast tempo or a really slow tempo, and if one person messes up, they have to start over
~They must remain at attention, no matter what. Kidnappers will jump at you, try to make you laugh, et cetera.
~Marshmellow contest: whoever fits the most marshmellows in their mouth wins...I forget...
~After a breakfast (provided), divide the freshies into two. One half is blindfolded, while the other is covered with a trashbag (except for the head). The blindfolded are given one of the following: mustard, ketchup, chocolate syrup, or whipped cream. The kidnappers help them aim towards the 2nd half, and make human sundaes [gawd it took me forever the get the fxcking stuff out of my hair when they did this to me! It was horrible! And this was back when my hiar came down to my hips! (It wasn't brushed either)]
~To clean up the human sundaes, there is a water balloon fight.
~The kidnappers and the kidnapped split into groups, and work together to make a skit of some sort.
~After lunch (the kidnapped must buy their own), the kidnappers take the kidnapped to the mall, set them up in a block, give them a tempo (a more comfortable one), and make them march through the entire mall. The kidnapped have not been given the chance to change out of their costumes/pajamas.
~After returning from the mall, there is a game of nationball, kidnappers against kidnapped
Or something like that [I had only gotten a few hours of sleep, and if I don't get at least six hours of sleep, my already short attention span shortens even more. If you look at the video on the traditions topic, [for those who know what I look(ed) like], you can see in the group pic that i'm just out of it]. Our band stopped doing this cause a bunch of last year's freshies complained (don't look at me!) and one of the seniors picked up a freshmen, but didn't have any paperwork (so if they got into an accident and the kidnapped student needed to go to the hospital, the senior would have had no way of contacting them). Sigh...it sucks cause I was really looking forward to doing this.
