Character Sheets

When attempting to player a character, I expect you to at least know a little bit about the information involved in the World of Darkness rulebooks. However, it's easy to forget from time to time and little reminders can remove the chance of big mistakes occurring. While the roleplaying is the most important part, stats are important, and settling away the mechanics before the game even begins will make for a smooth, fun roleplaying experience.

It is therefore necessary to understand the base game mechanics and exemplify particular stats as to make your character functional. The stats, in essence, take away the bias nature of human being; The stats take away the sheer outright control in things and introduce a little bit of randomness that will guide the rest of the game- things in which not even the game master has control over.

Basic Things to Remember

It is important to remember that Attributes, Skills, Special abilities and a large number of other stats require an amount of experience points equal to the next dot in the sequence. For instance, going from strength 2 to strength 3, costs 5 experience points per dot, or 15 experience points. However, to go from 3 strength to four strength, a person needs to spend 20 experience points. It is also important to remember that when purchasing the fifth dot in a stat, a person needs to pay double what they ordinarily need to pay- so, for a person to go from 4 strength to five stats, they don't need to pay 25 experience points, but 50. A stat may not be raised above 5 unless another power allows this to occur; most notably, having a "Special Stat"- such as Gnosis, Blood Potency, Primal Urge, or Azoth- is the most likely reason for a stat to be raised above 5, as having more than 5 in a "Special Stat" usually allows a user to raise their stat to the equivalent of that "Special Stat".

Basic Information

Attributes- Each character starts off with a base minimum of 1 stat in each specific criteria. There are three kinds of stats- Finesse, Power, and Resistance. Power stats include Strength, Intelligence, and Presence. Finesse stats include Dexterity, Wits, and Manipulation. Resistance stats include Stamina, Resilience, and Composure.

Of these stats, there are three types- Physical, Mental, and Social. Each character gets a 5/4/3 additive for each type of stat- Essentially, if someone picks their primary Type to be Physical, their secondary to be Mental, and their tertiary to be social, a person could have

3 Strength, 2 Dexterity, 3 Stamina
3 Intelligence, 2 wits, 2 resolve
2 Manipulation, 2 Presence, 2 Composure

Essentially, a person has a total of 12 points to spend in their attributes. However, five have to spent in one particular type, 4 have to be spent in one particular type, and three have to be spent in another particular type. As a point of comparison, 2 in an attribute is considered to be the exact average for an every day human being.

Skills-
Skills are essentially divided into three categories- Physical, Mental, and Social. Essentially, a person has a total of 11/7/4 points to spend in their skills; or a total of 22 . However, 11 have to spent in one particular type, 7 have to be spent in one particular type, and 4 have to be spent in another particular type. As a point of comparison, 0 in a skill is considered to be the exact average for an every day human being- this however, results in a -1 modifier, as an unskilled person receives a -1 dice penalty in that particular skill.
